Am I vaping too much?

Thanks in advance for any feedback and insights.

I used to smoke about 1.5 packs of cigarettes a day. I would say I was a heavy smoker. About two years ago I quit smoking and started using Swedish Snus. I bought a brand called Thunder Ultra Strong which at the time was the highest nicotine level available. I would also say I was a heavy Snuser.

In January of this year I switched to an ecig. I use an iClear 30 and make my own liquid. I make my liquid at 24mg nicotine per ml. I use about 6 ml of liquid a day. I just seem to hit my ecig about every 5 minutes or so during the waking hours. And get started right when I awaken, and keep toking until I go to bed.

I am a nervous type guy who suffers from anxiety and depression. I am curious if I am an "extreme" vapor. Have I actually gotten myself more addicted to nicotine? It seems to help very temporarily with the anxiety, but then it comes right back. It is like my ecig has become a security blanket.

Thanks for your input.

As long as you're not getting dizzy or nauseous I don't see a problem. Don't seem very "extreme" to me, keep poking around you'll see folks who vape way more than you. I'm using 12mg juice lately, but that's because I switched to mostly rebuildables that put out more vapor, if I was still on clearos all day I'd still be at 24mg.

Smoking a pack and a half is a lot of hand to mouth movement, so vaping being a substitute would cause you to keep up the same habit until you feel satisfied. More many vapers especially in the beginning will continue to vape even without craving for nicotine but for the hand to mouth habit. I'm one of them, I often receive enough nicotine and get a nic buzz from over vaping.

Since your making your own juice you can make a small batch and fill another tank with 0 nicotine and puff in between nic hits, and see if you're craving the nicotine or if you just feel the need to continually puff on something.

well maybe vape as much as you can afford per day.... some cloud chasers are doing 15 - 20 ml a day at 30$ a bottle :)

Yes, when I chased clouds I went through 15-45 ml a day. I'm now down to 12-20 ml.

to ecf branstetter412. I personally feel like the 24 mg you are at is sufficient for someone who smoked a pack and half. I think you will know when you are over dosing on nic because you head and stomach will remind you. If you have had no issues.............I would just enjoy. :)

Do Want to cut you Vaing Back? Or are you just Wondering if it is OK to Vape this Much?

I agree with the above poster about checking to see if it's the nicotine you need or the hand-to-mouth fixation you're seeking. I hit my apv alot unless I add some WTA (Whole Tobacco Alkaloid) in it. WTA carries those things found in cigarettes that give you a calming effect. You'd just add a little or maybe even vape it as is depending on how you need it. I use Mother's Milk but there are 2 others out there who market it and their name eludes me at the moment. I think one is Aroma Ejuice and the other is WholeCig. I vaped around 3-4ml/day and have cut down to 2-3ml/day but I don't add alot of the WTA cuz' I like vaping.

I started with 24 mg also. But then I noticed that I became a chain vaper, so I cut my nicotine to 15. Surprisingly it was rather easy. I believe that just the act of vaping was good enough for me. Now I vape about 4 ml at 15 mg, and I vape a lot. For me time I spend vaping more important that delivery efficiency, so I use iClear 16 that lets me vape the same amount of juice as, say, Aerotank (it is collecting dust on a shelf for now) during much longer time. You may want to try to cut nicotine without increasing juice consumption.

At 6 mL a day you're at the higher end of normal, but you're using a iClear 30 which can be a juice hog. It seems to use up my juice about 25-50% faster, which would put you at about normal consumption.

For your nicotine level, 24 mg is not excessive, as a pack & a half a day smoker myself, it took 36 mg for about a year to kick smoking and then start reducing my nicotine level. (down to 12-15mg now, 4 years later) Since you DIY you could try mixing up some 36 mg for the morning, or when you're stressed, and some 20 mg to just puff during the day, just to have something to puff.

If you don't have hiccups, nausea, or headaches from the nicotine, you're not overdosing. Hiccups were always my sign for too much nic, got them a lot when I tried the nicotine gum, and lozenges.

I wondered if vaping was causing me to have hiccups so much more than usual. Don't have any nausea or other nic-OD symptoms, but I do seem to get hiccups more often than I did before I started vaping.

My ex-husband discovered a truly remarkable cure for hiccups: 1/2 tsp, to a full tsp, of honey. No idea why it works, but it really does, when holding my breath won't fix them. First I try about 1/2 tsp, and that usually works right off the bat, but for really stubborn hiccups, I'll take another 1/2 tsp, and that knocks 'em out.

It really ought to be in Ripley's believe it or not. :D

Thanks to everyone for their replies. After reading them all I have concluded that I am a heavy vapor, but not ready to overdose on nicotine or cause my heart to explode. Thankful for your input and that I was able to stop smoking the "real" cigarettes. I do physically feel much better. Like I said in my original post, I suffer from some pretty serious anxiety and depression and have become quite hooked on the soothing affect of chain vaping. Something I need to address, but not something I need to be immediately stressing over. So thanks for all your input.

Have you tried the WTA? I've found it extremely useful to prevent cravings, and I've heard it's also helpful with the MAOI-related depression that comes around 3wks and 3mos smoke-free; I had that pretty bad at those times, my first go-round, so I figured it was worth trying to prevent it, this time around. My depression and anxiety seem like 2 sides of the same coin, just varying in which side is up at any given time. Maybe the WTA could also help anxiety issues.

~~~~~>chain vapes.
as long as you're not having any ill effects from the nicotine go for it.
I started at 24mg and am now on mostly 6mg (save the 12mg one for with my coffee and if I feel a craving grab one of Ed's 24mg or 18mg ones for a few hits) and I chain vape a majority of the time with no ill effects.
I DID when I started to cut down from 24mg (and I smoked two packs a day to 1.5) when vacuuming had some little heart palpitations, was flushed and sweating, so it was time to dial back the nicotine just a wee tad. *lol* I got a "yah think?" from Ed :p
