I've been off cigs (analogs) for 5 weeks, 3 days now, just vaping away, happily. I had been smoking 1 1/2 to 2 PAD for 40+ years.

Every time I had a cold in recent memory (as in probably 25 years), it has ended up as a chest cold. And in probably the last 5 years, the bad cough from the cold lasted another 4 to 6 weeks, AFTER the cold had ended. Believe me, I DREADED having a cold. (I'm sure cough medicine stock prices went up at those times!)

I realized I had a cold on the 14th of February and again, dreaded the onset as I knew the outset. It stayed a head cold. I barely coughed throughout it. The cold was a damned nasty head cold but stayed there and didn't gravitate to the lower region. Today, I'm fine, no hint of a cold.

My husband, still an analog smoker, has unfortunately caught the cold. I still have lots of cough medicine...

I'm writing this so new vapes, like me, will look forward to not having to dread the "common" cold, as I did for so many years. Yeah, it's the same crap to get through for a few days but that's it. Not a deep chest cold where you feel you're gonna cough up a lung.

I stand amazed at how 5 weeks of not smoking has improved my well-being.

Hah - another vaping win :toast:

Sucks to get sick, but bonus on the recovery front. Now go lord it over your SO so he makes the switch.

Yeah, I think he's realizing it now. But I'm not gonna lord it over him. He's been soooo supportive of me giving up analogs. He just has to figure it out for himself at this point.

My first cold post vape switch was terrible! But I have the same story. I dreaded it being the typical week cold, cough for another month (I had smoked for almost 15 years)... on the 4th day I woke up and actually felt better (not great, but improved). The next day I was fully cured. No nasty cough since. Its been almost 3 months smoke free, but I can already run better (as a smoker I still prided myself on 6-6 1/2 minute.miles). I dropped 20 seconds with no additional effort. VAPE ON AND LIVE LONG, like I always say.

I've had the same experience - every winter, without fail, I'd have at least one killer episode of bronchitis/pneumonia. Just like you, it always started with a headcold that would migrate to my chest and stay there forever. I'm now in my 4th winter of being totally bronchitis-free, even after having the flu last month. Haven't had a single episode since I started vaping.

Wow, love all the posts. Ya know? When you're a smoker, you feel that it's only YOU that it's happening to and no where to tell it to.

And now, here we have ECF. Thank you for such a wonderful community!

Please keep the good vibes coming, tell everyone it DOES get better, you WILL feel better.

OK, picture Humphrey Bogart looking at you, he's wearing his fedora and trench coat........got the picture.
Ok, here goes, You ain't seen nothing yet Baby

I was a similar smoker 1 1/2 years ago. I'm 71, now retired, and my health has just got better and better. I actually find it hard to believe that my lung capacity has increased so much. I was so bad that I couldn't carry on a conversation without going into a coughing fit. I also had similar cold issues that progressively went from the head cold to the chest cold and lasting weeks. What finally made me quit was, after retiring, my smoking increased slightly and I just knew, just knew smoking had to stop. That little switch in my brain flipped over and I was done with cigs. Cold turkey and absolutely no problems encountered while quitting. No patch, program, or anything but me. Vaping came my way months afterwards and I now consider this a hobby of sorts, not a habit. My only habit these days is riding my bike. If I don't ride daily, I feel guilty.

I saw the headline and just had to say that I know exactly the same feeling! I also caught a nasty head cold a couple weeks ago and knew it would migrate into my chest and become this horrid cough for the next month or two. I started vaping only a month ago, so I was really surprised that when the cold went away, the cough never showed up. I never realized I would see results like that so quickly.

Woot woot! High fives all around to these little pleasant surprises!
