I don't want to get off topic, but...... cbd is arguably the best alternative to chemo as it kills cancer cells while leaving regular cells unharmed(unlike chemo), but it seems most of the large cancer organisations have no interest it. Few things grinds my gears more than that. A mother of a 3 year with leukemia switched her child from chemo, to a cbd based treatment, her doctor attempted to get her child taken from her custody by child services, but guess what? She was able to keep custody, and without chemo, the cancer went into remission and the child made a full recovery with just cbd. The fact that the first studies on CBD came out years ago, and most cancer patients still have to undergo chemo, even though it may not be the best solution, drives me crazy. Just as backwards as saying electronic cigarettes a problem and not the solution.

I know, it's a sad state of affairs. When a medical doctor stumbles upon a potential cancer solution, the FDA and donation funded cancer research organizations fight it tooth and nail; instead of testing it's effectiveness with their massive cash falls.

Same as they fight e-cigs which has extreme potential to prevent thousands of COPD deaths and likely cancer deaths too.

I just wrote this letter to the ALA.

Your Statement on E-Cigarettes is misleading and out of date.

American Lung Association Statement on E-Cigarettes - American Lung Association

There are NO toxic cancer-causing chemicals in E-liquids.
And the statement “including an ingredient used in anti-freeze”
Which ingredient is that? Are you talking about water?
E-liquids contain four ingredients: a propylene glycol (PG) or vegetable glycerin (VG) base, nicotine, water and flavorings.

Now PG comes in several grades.

Industrial grade PG is used as an active ingredient in engine coolants and antifreeze
In all fairness, it should be stated that PG was only added to anti-freeze to replace Ethylene Glycol, which it had been a problem because dogs often lap up puddles of anti-freeze.

Pharmaceutical grade
Because of its water-retaining properties, propylene glycol is the compound of choice for delivering atomized medications. It has been used in asthma inhalers and nebulizers since the 1950’s
It has been used safely for more than 50 years, including in health-sensitive products such as food, cosmetics and pharmaceuticals, where the molecule mainly serves as non-active ingredient or carrier of other substances
It’s found in
- Most cake/cupcake mixes
- Some frostings
- Lots of ice cream brands
- Many McDonald's sauces - including Big Mac sauce and their mayonnaise
- Some flavoring syrups
- Most beers use it as a foaming agent
- Cornbread and muffin mixes
- Coffee (specifically Folgers -- probably others)
- Candy
- Fast Food
- Many salad dressings

Applications of propylene glycol in cosmetics and toiletries include products in:
-Personal care: bath and shower soaps, gels, face cleansers, shaving foams, after shave, antiperspirant deodorants, roll-ons, sticks, lipsticks, fragrances, perfumes
-Skin care: hand, body and facial moisturizers, sunscreen products
-Hair care: shampoos, conditioners, styling gels
-Oral care: mouthwashes, toothpaste
-Baby care: wipes, antiseptics

The FDA includes Pharmaceutical grade PG on its Generally Recognized As Safe (GRAS) list.
The World Health Organization also considers it as safe for use.

When a Smoker that is trying to quit comes to the ALA website to see its stand on e-Cigs,
They find that the American Lung Association would rather see people on medications like Chantix and Zyban.

Which the U.S. Food and Drug Administration is requiring manufacturers to put a Boxed Warning on the prescribing information for the smoking cessation drugs Chantix (varenicline) and Zyban (bupropion).
The warning will highlight the risk of serious mental health and Serious neuropsychiatric events including changes in behavior, hostility, depression, suicidal ideation, suicide attempt, and completed suicide.

Reading your propaganda about e-Cigs and the side effects of your drugs would make a person not want to quit smoking.

How can you promote those drugs over an e-cig with PG in it anyways?
I think it’s sad that the American Lung Association which once started out as a Great and Needed organization is now no more than a puppet for the pharmaceutical industry.

"The American Lung Association is the leading organization working to save lives by improving lung health and preventing lung disease through Education, Advocacy and Research. With the generous support of the public, we are "Fighting for Air." When you join the American Lung Association in the fight for healthy lungs and healthy air, you help save lives today and keep America healthy tomorrow."

Education, Advocacy and Research, why is that even there anymore if a smokeless alternative is right in front of its face and the ALA refuses to open its eyes?

This motto should be changed too:
"The American Lung Association who ever gives us the most generous support, we will support.”

I quit smoking thanks to and only to e-cigs, and I guess I can hope that one day an e-cig company has enough to pay I mean donate to The American Lung Association to where the American Lung Association will promote the use of them.

If they found PEG (poly ethylene glycol) in any amount in some juice (it is used I heard some where) it is the main component of the "ECO Friendly" antifreeze alternatives.

This upsets me  I can see warning to be careful there's not enough FDA testing but this is :censored::censored::censored:!!!

This is part of what they said,

There is likely to be wide variation in the chemicals that each contain, but in initial lab tests conducted by the FDA in 2009, detectable levels of toxic cancer-causing chemicals were found, including an ingredient used in anti-freeze, in two leading brands of e-cigarettes and 18 various cartridges.
There is LIKELY to be???:glare:
It is likely that a airplane will fall out of the sky and kill me too, so we should ban all airplanes too.

What cancer-causing chemicals? Which two leading brands?
Really just going to say that and not tell us what chemicals or which two leading brands not to buy?
This is a agency that is suppose to help save lives!!

Instead of e-cigs,
When smokers are ready to quit, they should call 1-800-QUIT NOW,
Even though you talking on the phone with someone has no chance in hell of making you stop smoking, it makes sure that they get their government Funding, which is the most important thing!

or talk with their doctors about using one of the seven FDA-approved medications proven to be safe and effective in helping smokers quit.
Because using drugs to get off tobacco is NOT better for you BUT, it makes a ton of money for the drug companies and again the making of money is more important then your health.

So until further testing is done, meaning when the government can figure a way to get a big chunk of the profits on e-cigs, the American Lung Association will be against it!!

American Lung Association Statement on E-Cigarettes - American Lung Association

I am tired off hearing about kids vaping too.
Would you rather have your kids smoke or Vape.

Banning the sale of e-cig to minors, yea cause that worked so well on cigarettes that no one under 18 ever smoked...:glare:

Tax the crap out off e-cigs, absolutely does nothing but give the Government more of our hard earned money.:glare:

The Seven FDA-approved medications proven to be safe by the and effective in helping smokers quit.

1. Varenicline (Chantix)

The FDA on July 1, 2009 added a "black-box" warning for healthcare providers to use caution prescribing Chantix for patients with pre-existing psychiatric conditions, and to monitor all patients using Chantix for psychological symptoms.

2. Bupropion (Zyban or Wellbutrin)

Serious neuropsychiatric events, including but not limited to depression, suicidal ideation, suicide attempt, and completed suicide have been reported in patients taking ZYBAN.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced that it is requiring manufacturers to put a Boxed Warning on the prescribing information for the smoking cessation drugs Chantix (varenicline) and Zyban (bupropion). The warning will highlight the risk of serious mental health events including changes in behavior, depressed mood, hostility, and suicidal thoughts when taking these drugs.

3. Patch Patches are designed to provide a steady stream of nicotine through your skin.

4. Gum bubble gum with Nicotine in it.

5. Inhaler Patients "puff" small doses of nicotine through this prescription product that looks similar to a cigarette
http://www.pfizer.com/files/products/uspi_nicotrol_inhaler.pdf

6. Nasal spray delivers nicotine through your nose
http://www.pfizer.com/files/products/uspi_nicotrol.pdf

7. Lozenge candy with nicotine in it.

Numbers 3 threw 7 are ways to give your body Nicotine with out smoking tobacco.

Isn't that what Vaping does?
Why is that Nicotine safe for me in numbers 3 threw 7 but the Nicotine in my juice is Bad and Evil?

Yeah and the inhalers used to contain pg too. Lol

Sent from my Astromech in a galaxy far, far away. The force is with me. so is Mr. chicken.

Just one pile of gold will do.

except gold is no longer the standard by which we monetize. that's why we can just print money in the US when the gov't needs it. when you or i get enough gold to threaten the US or world economy, they'll simply make it worthless and standardize on something else. likely something one of the super power countries of that time have an abundance of.

DOW Chemical sells PG as a food additive... just look at this happy ... family eating it up. It's in the coffee, the croissant and the OJ. Also, in dad's Provari (but only a little, as he prefers a 20/80 mix PG/VG)... Nice try ALA.

Here is the page that image came from, as shown on DOW's website, in the food additives pages.

Gold will always have value. Just ask Dubai. Also, they don't "just print money," it doesn't quite work that way...

you're right. they have to have someone to sell the bonds that represent it to. good thing there's always a buyer ready to invest into our future.

that's why we're trillions in debt. we've sold bonds for money we don't have and printed the face value of those bonds in greenbacks.

we put a cap on that "spending" or selling of our "wealth". when we reach it, and need more money, there is meetings to determine the new debt ceiling. just went through this recently with the obama administration.

I'm sure this has come up in this thread but I didn't read through. The FDA is a sham and is as efficient of an agency as any other in the federal govt. (meaning they suck balls). They will approve anything that sends them enough cash to approve it. Therefore DO NOT listen to anything that comes out of the mouth of this beast!!!! Hey!!! They say cigarettes are fine for you to consume. The lung association or cancer associations will go along with whatever they are told to keep getting govt. funding. It all comes from the same point. If these people were running a business (and not getting govt. funding) they would have been out of business before I had a chance to know who they were.

ALA likely want's to avoid repeat of the catastrophic collapse of the polio cure research industry.

I was a child during the time kids were getting polio. I knew a lot of kids with polio growing up.

During the polio vaccine era, it reduced polio by about 90%. The disease, like smallpox, has been pretty much eradicated for all practical purposes. Thank you Dr. Salk is all I can say.

On the topic of stuff not being approved that can do some good, they have been giving stem cells to race horses who later come back to the track after being previously crippled by arthritis. Stem cells have been used in veterinary practice with dogs for a decade, with good results. As somebody with arthritis, who also has a twin sibling who would have stem cells that match mine, it sure would be nice if I could get these treatments. All these phase III clinical trials can't happen fast enough AFAIC

As for ecigs and regulation, my gut tells me that it will be at least 2-3 years before the FDA conducts enough tests and gets FB to actually *do* anything.

The American Lung Association is financed primarily via cigarette taxes. Of course they are opposed to people vaping - the more people who switch to vaping, the lower their income.

That "it contains a product used in antifreeze" is PG. Propylene Glycol. Most ejuice uses a base of either PG or VG. Most anti-freeze doesn't use PG, and most anti-freeze is toxic. They make it using PG when they want a non-toxic version of anti-freeze.

This is a quote from wikipedia...

Propylene glycol, on the other hand, is considerably less toxic than ethylene glycol and may be labeled as "non-toxic antifreeze". It is used as antifreeze where ethylene glycol would be inappropriate, such as in food-processing systems or in water pipes in homes where incidental ingestion may be possible. As confirmation of its relative non-toxicity, the FDA allows propylene glycol to be added to a large number of processed foods, including ice cream, frozen custard, and baked goods.

The ALA and similar "health" organizations know this already. They don't care about the truth, and they don't care about your health, they just care about their funding.

I am a respiratory therapist with the American Lung Association Help Line.

I do not set policy for our organization, but I do stand behind the position statement on the e-cigarette products. I am so happy to hear that you were able to quit smoking. I am sure you know more than most just how difficult this is to do. We talk to people every day who are disparate to quit smoking. Many have lung disease or lung cancer, and have tried many times to quit. Some people we talk to have had some success with e-cigarette products, and some have not.

One thing I will tell you for sure is that at the Help Line, we are 100% committed to helping these people as much as we can. The two basic questions about e-cigarettes have yet to be scientifically answered, are they safe, and are they effective in helping people quit smoking. All FDA approved products for smoking cessation have had this testing. The very reason there is a “black box” warning on some of these products is because of FDA oversight, and clinical trials. Without this, we would not know about these new warnings. Because of this oversight, physicians now know what patients are able to safely use these products, and what patients should try other approved methods. I have been a respiratory therapist for about 30 years. It wasn’t until 1992 when we had the first stop smoking aid to recommend, nicotine patches. At that time, they were available only by prescription, but because of the continued studies, they became available over the counter a few years later.

There are over 200 companies that make the e-cigarette. Since there are currently NO regulations on these products, no one can vouch for every single product, and what they contain. Add to that the fact that every single American Tobacco Company also has their own brand, I think anyone should be leary to trust this industry! Your notes on pharmaceutical grade propylene glycol and their safety history fails to mention one very important fact. NONE of the products you mention are to be inhaled directly into the lungs. This is a very different way to deliver any chemicals. There are several products that can cause a great deal of harm by intentionally inhaling them into the lungs (huffing).

The bottom line is that you were able to quit, and we think this is by far the most important thing, and we congratulate you on your success. We have a responsibility to only recommend products that have been proven to be both safe and effective, and we rely on the Food and Drug Administration to approve these products.
None of the over 200 e-cigarette products have made application to the FDA for approval to help people quit smoking. If and when they do, we would love to have another tool in the toolbox to help people quit tobacco. Thanks for contacting us.

We're the ones who have Cigarettes attached to the letter E- of our business name.

The BIG Tobacco INDUSTRY lied time and again to the AMERICAN people and the WORLD
about how deadly CIGARETTES are... and hundreds of Millions have died... and 1,200 each day are dying.

As long as we have the NAME: CIGARETTE or CIGS attached to our NAME we will be at
at the BULLS EYE OF A ...... TARGET

There is one majorly overlooked scenario in your post. The SAME SPIN DOCTORS, SAME TAX GREEDY ORGS, AND SAME GREEDY STATES, SPREADING THE SAME TWISTED TYPE OF PROPAGANDA ARE NOW ATTACKING ECIGS, AS WELL AS SNUS.
Research the facts, the studies.
THE ANTZ LIED.
