1) An e-cig that'll last months instead of weeks, yet be priced reasonable ;)
2) Produce MORE smoke :thumb:
3) Atomizers that won't have a "burnt" taste any more (YUCK) :thumb:
4) When the e-cig breaks down/wears out, we just return it to the manufacturer who then recycles it all (waste not want not)

I have been bugging my manufacturer about the damn cleaning cycle thing.. Hopefully they will remove it at some point.. Im pretty sure it is one of the reasons that some of the atomizers die an untimely death.

As to recycling, When a part goes bad and I replace it I have the customer return the broken/warn out part (I pay for the postage) and I save them up and then send them back to the manufacturer so that they can recycle them and also thry to figure out what is causing the failures so that they can improve future designs

I can tell you, right now, an e-cig that will hold up for any heavy e-smoker. This device will have:

  1. A large capacity battery
  2. Either a metal or ceramic interface (cart) between the nicquid and atomizer
  3. A manual switch

I'm going to be designing and building a prototype e-cig with a heating element that works around 3.5-4.5v, surrounded with a porous ceramic cartridge to hold the nicquid, a manual switch and a large capacity Lithium Ion battery around 3.7v 2500mAh. I think that Brother Trog is on the right track. Most of the problems with heavy e-smoking can be solved with more power.

I'm also redesigning the mouthpiece to end liquid in the mouth by adding a tube that only pulls vapor from the top of the atomization chamber.

I don't want a patent or anything like that. If my experiments work, I want the satisfaction of giving heavy e-smokers a tool to give up analog ciggies forever.

I have the same idea, very close to yours. I already bought some AAA Li-ion batteries 500maH, and plan on modifying a maglite solitare as the base. i'm waiting for the nichrome wire to come in now. I wish I had a lathe, i could make something so much better. I'm still thinking about using an atmel microcontroller and and a thermocouple to control the temperature. this could prevent burning and thus control the flavor a little more.
ahh the cogs in my brain are turning. the things i could do. :)

You get what you pay for seems to fit most types of E-cigs.
I do say "Most" because there are some WAY over priced ones. Those are just rebranded generics someone thinks they can make a fortune selling.

In general, these are basicly disposable. Like a good Lighter, it may work for months, or days, but basicly the same idea of disposable. Even the good ones, you need wicks, or butane, or flints, or some parts. BUT, like a real good Zippo, has a long warranty, and costs more then the cheapy ones at the gas station.
Hope that made sence.
I LOVE the pen style and have bought several parts from different sellers. Some parts lasted a weekend, others a month. but all the parts no matter how much paid, wore out.
The batteries last longer then the atomizer, that lasts longer then the carts (carts can be refilled and cleaned several times.)

I am going to Splurge on a Janty and see if its any stronger then my DSE-801 Pen.
From what ive seen and read, it should be, but even those will go bad eventually im sure, i "think" they even only have a 6 month warranty.
If you think about the parts, some Can be made better, but none can be made indestructable. That small, things get touchy, and brittle. The heating elements are the worst. The auto switches are my Pain in the ..... They seem to work when they want too.

The best atomizers I have found so far is from Jane, I use hers w/jant manual switch for heavyest vape, and never had them go taste bad either. I have Lots of em. Her batteriers last longest too.
