So I don't think I mentioned that I do MMA (I'm not a fighter. I use it for getting into shape/losing weight/fun).

I was lucky enough to stumble across my trainer at the gym I joined. He was teaching Gi and No Gi Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for a very inexpensive monthly cost. I didn't know who he was at the time. For those of you that follow MMA, you might know him. Shannon The Cannon Ritch The most active MMA fighter in the world. As he is just 1 fight/win from having 200 wins I think that is probably no exaggeration. :)

Anyway, back to my topic. I bought a couple of tickets to Shannon's fight last night and my wife and I went. These fights are usually held in a casino. Now I've been to his fights before, but that was as a smoker.

So as we hadn't been to this casino before I did a recon run to find the area where the fight was going to be (and find a bathroom LOL) while my wife found a parking spot. So I trot my .... over to the entrance and open the door and walk in. I had my eVic in my hand and was taking a vape as I went in otherwise I probably would have noticed what I as about to experience.

So I clear the entry way and just exhale my vape and am just about to take a breath. I've come into the bingo hall. Suddenly I get hit by a wall. That wall was cigarette smoke. OMG! How could I have not noticed that wall in the past? Ok so there were tons of people in here and most of them were smoking it seems. OK I'll just head for the slots and video poker area on my quest for info and a toilet. Maybe it will get better. Ummmmm... No in fact I think it got worse. LOL!

So after I complete my quest (found a bathroom and determined that the fight was in another building) and retraced my steps to locate my wife. She had figured out that we were in the wrong area and hadn't parked. She drove up and I hopped in and said "OMG the smoke is terrible in there!" She laughed and said she was wondering if I would notice. I never noticed in the past because I smoked. Every time we go to an event like that my wife would put up with that wall. She is such a trooper.

Anyway, Shannon won his fight (12 seconds in the first round - spinning back fist. The Gracie fighter was on the mat wondering what the heck happened. LOL), I stealth vaped a lot during the event.:vapor: My wife was amazed that no vapor ever came out of me. :D We had a blast but I'll never forget my encounter with the wall.

Another fighter! Aye! Its a shame that NYC won't legalize the sport yet but we've made it work for the past 4-5 years. Currently undefeated going into my sixth season - belted up in Wing Chun, Aikido, Krav, and Savate. Years training in Japan did it all.

Awesome story otherwise, and Shannon is freakin awesome!

When you work as a professor of philosophy you need to keep the MMA part of your life kinda quiet so I've managed to keep most of the public unaware of my Martial Arts. I do teach at two different gyms in Manhattan, I'll shoot you a PM when I'm not so hungover. I've been doing some fighting out of state recently so I can make some money, hell, I might even be coming to phoenix sometime soon to do some serious fighting.
