An Introction and some troubleshooting.

Hey Vapers! My name is Amy and I live in Minnesota. I decided to quit my pack-a-day camel wide smoking, and start vaping. I ordered a cheap starter kit called the smok Mini eGo Express Kit from MadVapes. It came with a tiny battery, and some 1.8 coils. I started out with some flavors of 24mg juice and decided that was a little too strong for how often I was vaping (I'm obsessed) :).

So anyhow, I decided to order some juice in a lower strength (11mg) and even some 6mg just in case. I also ordered another eGo battery which is a 900mAh. Since the 900mAh battery works best with coils that are 2.0-3.2 ohms, I thought I would order some 2.5ohm coils, however they were out of stock, so I ordered some 3.0ohm coils instead. I tried the 3.0 ohms with my new battery, and the vape is very little. So I tried using with my 1.8ohm coils and it seems to be a bit better. Is it OK to use this battery with these 1.8ohm coils until I can get the 2.4s? Also, I have been using the same 1.8ohm coil since Monday (and since Monday, I have not had a single cigarette). The vape started tasting really bad, almost like it was burning. Does this indicate that I need to replace my coil?

I appreciate any input. I am truly loving this experience, and I want to keep it going as smoothly as possible. So suggestions would be great.

I eventually plan to invest in a better kit, but financially, this will have to do for now.

Thanks a bunch! And I'm so happy to be a member of this forum. You all seem so positive. LOVE IT!!

Coils need to be replaced every week or so, depending on the amount of use and the juice you're using. If you're vaping a darker colored juice, or a sweeter juice, the coils will need to be replaced more often. From what I'm reading on the kit you bought, looks like the coils are similar to Kanger Protank coils. 5 days without cleaning or dry burning is really all they can do. If you want to see if you can make them last longer, look up "dry burning Protank coils" and you'll come across videos on it. It's pretty easy, and it'll save you some money.

1.8 ohms with a 900 mAh battery should be fine.

First most, Hi and Welcome to ECF :)

With a 1.8 Ohm coil you are fine on that battery. You are having a wicking issue that is giving you dry hits. Try taking a pull without pressing the button to get the juice to soak in to the wicks a bit more. Any idea of the pg/vg ratio on your liquid? Higher VG tends to be thicker and can wick a bit slower - you can dilute with a few (literally a few) drops of water to thin it a tiny bit so it wicks better.

You can certainly use the same coil since Monday - you can use them until they dont work if you really want to, but you will notice a significant reduction in flavor and vapor when it is time to replace.

Hope this helps some!

You didn't mention the type of atomizer you have. If it's a top coil, you must turn it upside down occasionally to saturate your wick/coil assembly. 3.5 ohm coil is not a good match for a fixed voltage battery. Stay in the 1.8 to 2.1 ohm range. Bad coils usually result in low vapor production,..

I have a bottom coil atomizer.

1: Do you know the PG/VG mix of the liquids you bought?
I buy 24mg 100% PG and add 3:1 glycerin, so I end up with 6mg 25/75 PG/VG liquid and $save$ a bundle.

Voltage regulation is easier that having to experiment between what coil ohms to use; if you got an eGo twist battery you'd be able to adjust the voltage to find the sweet spot for the particular liquid and ohms.

Rule of thumb: those commercial coils with 30/32 gauge kanthal and silica wick run at around 5 watts per single coil.
watts = volts x volts / ohms

Think I found it:
It's a Smoktech ARO tank.
Looks like a delrin mouthpiece too! Good.

Looked at the first eliquid on the list in madvapes:

Topvapor e-Liquid is made in the USA.

TopVapor e-liquid is a blend of PG, VG, natural organic alcohol based flavorings and may contain nicotine. Products stated as VG only will not contain PG. The typical mix is 80% VG/20% PG unless otherwise specified.

Due to personal tastes and preferences, there are no returns refunds, or exchanges on e-liquids.

Welcome to ECF! It sounds like you're getting some good advice about your coils... I would just like to add a couple of things about your liquid. First, I've found that some juices get ruined by the burnt taste that you are describing--some will be fine, but others will require you to replace all the juice in the tank. Also, with regards to strength, edyle alluded to the fact that you can mix your liquids (assuming the flavor is the same or complimentary). So, if 24 is too strong for you, you can mix it 50/50 with the 6 mg to get 15 mg, 25/75 to get 10 mg, and so on. The first week can be tough--but many of us have gone through it: you can, too. If you ever need advice, an answer, or just support, this is the place to be!
