Hello all ~

During the past six weeks, I’ve been a lurker. I have learned so much by reading through ECF threads, and I have been sincerely impressed by the many kindnesses I’ve seen exchanged on this board (such a rarity on discussion boards these days).

A little about me: I began smoking in my mid-thirties during a particularly stressful period of life. Though I was old enough to grasp the dangers, I easily succumbed to the addiction. It forced me to take breaks from work, and it gave me something to do with my hands when I felt anxious. At first I enjoyed it, but over the next twelve years, costs rose and policies changed. Eventually I found myself pushed outside to the ends of sidewalks (one of society’s marginal people) even in the freezing wind and rain, and I became disgruntled by the irony that the high taxes on my cartons helped to pay for the very policies being enforced against me and other smokers.

Three years ago, I’d had enough, and that’s when I began to try to quit. I tried everything: gum, patches, prescription inhalers, Chantix, hypnosis, and cold turkey. The only thing I managed to gain from my many attempts was weight – depressing.

I’d never even heard of e cigs until my son (also a smoker) told me about a kit (Smoking Everywhere) a friend of his had picked up when the two of them were in Las Vegas. There was no way I was going to spend $150 for something that would probably end up in the trash along with all my other unsuccessful attempts. However, it seemed reasonable to spend $30 on an NJoy starter pack before heading to the airport one day. (I intended to use it for some quick nic hits in airport bathroom stalls between flights and then to toss it in the trash when I arrived back home.) I didn’t dream I’d end up actually liking anything about it. I was shocked to discover e cigs might just be my way out of my addiction to cigarettes. As it turned out, I haven’t bought a pack of smokes since the day I first “vaped.”

When I arrived back home after my trip, I began researching e cigs. And that’s when I found ECF and learned the terminology. I watched countless Youtube reviews and ended up ordering a Joye 510 an numerous e liquids. It took awhile for me to find my “sweet spot,” but I am there. This week I received a Riva 901 from Liberty Flights and e-liquid from Ms T’s Bakery; I’m in heaven. vaping rocks!

I can breathe again. My senses of taste and smell improve every day. My family is happy with me. My bank account has breathing room again. All is good. None of this would have been possible without ECF and the Youtube reviews by the members of this and other e-cig forums. My gratitude goes to all of you that take the time to share your experiences and to teach the “ins and outs” of the vaping experience. Thank you.

:)

I'm going to celebrate my one year without tobacco within the week! Don't you just love it when a plan comes together?

Indeed I do! A whole year smoke-free? Sweet! You could book one heck of a cruise with all the money you've saved, Saints!

I smoked analogs for 30 years, and the 1 1/2 packs that I had left when my starter kit came 4 months ago is still in the freezer!

I am awed every time I read about someone giving up analogs after smoking for so long, Cindy. (Those are my favorite stories!)
It's probably safe to toss that pack and a half that's hanging out in your freezer. Then, again, I think you should just leave it for someone else to find in a few decades -- after analogs have gone the way of eight tracks. :p

Speaking of favorite stories, I've gotten so caught up in Littleoldlady's thread that my .... hurts from sitting in one place for so long. Now I'm just trying to get my post count up so that I can read her blog. :)

I totally could have written the OP's post! I echo the commentary and the congrats!

4 months of vaping for me, after hand-rolling my own smokes for about 15 years. Started, was dumb, tried to quit but just couldn't do it - no matter how many times I tried.

First day with my Ego-T, haven't had a smoke. Tried fluxomizers and Turbines, but my attys from China have worked out really well. I clean 'em on a schedule and they rock. Ordered a pair of Bud Sapphires from GotVapes and love 'em.

I liked your story-similar to mine. I've been smoke free for about three weeks now. I had an airplane trip coming up at the end of June. The thought of all day not smoking was hard and going out and back in through security is a pain. So, I ordered a Riva 510 kit from Liberty Flights after trying out a cheap drugstore disposable. It took about three days and then I couldn't stand the taste of real ciggies anymore. I did vape in the restrooms at the airport and on the plane and it was the best day I've had flying in years! Congratulations on making it six weeks. I love vaping and don't see myself ever going back to real ciggies. (Trying to get my post count up, so I can post in the Smokeless Image thread)

Thanks Reprisal.

Taz - Four minutes ago, I had zero idea what Bud Sapphires were. Thanks to Google, now I know. And now I want. But I'm going to practice delaying gratification this time around because I've spent enough on this new addiction/hobby/habit/love affair this month. Enjoy!

Jingles - I felt absolutely giddy while vaping in the airports' bathroom stalls, but I was far too chicken to pull out my e-cig on the planes. Ah... vaping while flying; I bet the two fit perfectly together. I'm putting that on my bucket list. (One more thing, feel free to post here on your way to driving up your count so that you can get into the Smokeless Image thread.)

Does anyone remember how many times a newbie must post in order to read a blog? (I admit I may have glossed over that part of the fine print. Oops.)
