As the title says, I had no problem replacing my analogs but the smokeless is still a fight. Some genius suggested in 1989 I try smokeless tobacco (snuff/dip) to get off cigarettes. In 6 months, I was back on analogs but using smokeless as well.

Since I found V4L, I havent had any issues with the analogs but the smokeless? Well no matter how much I vape, I still find myself sneaking a pinch or so each day. That is drastically down from over a can a day but still not good.

Research has shown me that a pinch generates about 36mg of nicotine vs. 18 for a cigarette. Additionally, the smoke was into my system in seconds versus minutes for smokeless and the "feed" of nicotine from the pinch lasted up to an hour. :?: All this said, I am determined to get off it as well.

Is anyone in the group a former dipper and what was your method of success? Also with the caveat that no advice received is considered medical nor actual instruction! I am merely seeking others experiences as ideas to formulate my own plan of attack.

I think the first step is to go up from 24mg to 36mg carts/juice and see if that helps that nagging pinch or two a day. ANY advice is appreciated and sorry for the wall of text. I am determined though to put the dip as far behind me as the analogs. :)

okay...not a former dipper here, but I do peruse the forum alot. What I have found is a lot of people talking about Sweedish Snus....And the reason they go with the sweedish is cause it is clean....doesn't have all the extra stuff added to it....of course for all I know all snus is sweedish.....I just see them talk about it not having all the added stuff that dip has:)

Now with that part said....My dad and brother both quit dipping cold turkey....have no idea how my dad did it after a 30+ habit, but he did...now my brother on the other hand chews a lot of mint gum.....Take5 to be exact:)

Wishing you luck on that one and a CONGRATS on quiting the ciggys...:)

Well, when I first quit smoking for vaping is when I first used Snus AND nicotine gum to keep me from smoking. Expert research proves that smokeless tobacco is 98% safer than smoking tobacco, so really, I don't see a problem. I have to add that vaping eventually (I would say 3 weeks) took over completely and is now all I need for my nicotine fix.

The ecig is also called a Personal Vaporizer, and keeping that in mind, you will develop a personal way to use it unique to yourself. As time passes your vaping technique, tastes in vapor flavors, preferred nic milligrams etc will change, that's the only thing we all have in common: CHANGE. If you never get off dipping, you're still playing it safe by not smoking. If the pleasure of vaping takes over your need to dip, so be it. We are all adults and deserve to use nicotine in a way that most pleases us. I can't speak for everyone, but a common thread among most of us is vaping eventually takes over. The first month without smoking is the hardest, your whole body is going through changes as it heals itself from smoke. Go at your own pace and don't worry about anything, you'll be fine.

Thanks for the feedback so far! :) I gues I am just so high on Vaping I want it to be and "end all". It sure is nice when my youngest grandson (3.5 years) sits on Paw-paw's lap and tells me I don't stink like an ash tray anymore. His mom still smokes but I'm trying to get her Vaping.

I do have to add that the helpfulness of the whole Vaping sub-culture is amazing. Thanks all. Proud to be a part.

The problem with a dip is it's about the same as four cigs at once! It's extremely potent with the nicotine delivery. Even now, I'm having a hard time kicking the analogs because I want the instant gratification I get from one. The vape is a slow delivery to me, even at 36mg.
Now, I'll ask a couple of questions and offer some ideas, gross as they are, to help.
Do you spit or swallow when you dip?
If you swallow, get some Cope, the strongest nastiest stuff you can find, and swallow it for an evening. Your body wont much care for that feeling any more!
If you spit, well the three things that did me in for dip. I've spilled and had to clean up a couple of cans or bottles that sat on the counter overnight, gross!
I've gotten up with a bad hangover then cleaned up the house the next day, you move a couple of spit cups already feeling nauseous and get it all stirred up with a good wiff, BLEAH!!!
The one that really did me in for it though, grab the wrong can and have a good swig. Once you get done puking, it will change your mind set!
As I said, gross, but damn effective!

Hey Sawe! Yeah Cope is what I use so after the first accidental swallow 20 years ago, suffice to say, I spit. At some point or the other over the last 20 plus years I have had most of the situations you mention but addiction knows no shame I guess.

The one thing I have going for me is I REALLY want to stop I guess. I have no intent to stop nicotene intake though so vaping will hopefully see me through the cut.

The instant gratification you get from dip can be a tough thing. What if when you want to dip you vape 36mg instead. If you still want to dip about 15 minutes later then have a little, but not as much as usual. If you still want to dip in 15 minutes, have a little more. The only thing you can't do is watch the clock. That might give you the time you need to get the nic from vaping. Is the reason you dip just the instant gratification? Maybe you like some of the other things about it. Snus might be a good way to go.

Yea...that last one is EXTREMELY gross....my dad got a spittoon the first time one of us kids picked up his coke can and drank a bit.....at least till we were old enough not to grab his drinks......that is some NASTY stuff

And Major....the fact that you WANT to quit the stuff is a step in the right direction...it will make it a bit easier....We are rootin for ya:)

I used the bandits years ago. I worked at a gas station and of course we couldn't smoke, so I had to find an alternative. I got quite used to those little pouches, but eventually just started chewing gum, something quite strong like big red or teaberry to get over it. If you can drop analogs, you can drop the dip. You'll do it when you are good and ready. Just take your time and don't stress out about it. As they say, don't sweat the petty things and don't pet the sweaty things. Really, they do say that :)

Major S,
I have tons of nico gum if you'd like me to send you some PM me your address. I used to chew two pieces at once, and it's chew and park or you'll get too much nic and get sick, but it helped me and I'll be glad to send you some, they are a bit pricey and I have no use for it anymore. I have PLENTY! just going to waste ...

PM sent, Thank you! Also Thanks for all the feedback from everyone. I am planning to hit the 36mg as soon as USPS drops my latest order.

To one earlier poster asking if it was the habit or what I enjoyed about it, I can truly say nothing was pleasurable about smokeless tobacco. The nicotene hit was its only value to me.

One other thing I have started doing is putting a fresh battery with cart where I used to put my can of dip. When I reach for it instictively, I get the Vapor stick instead of a can. :)

And finally as Ms. Keels has said, I really want to quit so that will help. I just have to be willing to make every pinch a conscious decision.

Let us know how everything works out for you, Major, I know I am still struggling to find my nicotine level. I was fine at 4mg but couldn't completely ditch analogs so I went up to 8\11mg and that hasn't helped. I was a heavy smoker of an ultra-ultralight but I am having a real problem trying to vape even the 8\11mg (coughing, hacking, headaches, etc.) I also spend most of my day in an area of the house that was the only place I ever smoked and that's a strong trigger still <sigh> There are a couple of other "bugs in the system" I am still trying to work out but I shall persevere because the end reward of ditching analogs is worth all the trouble I have been having! Good luck to you, Major, hope you find your ideal system :)
