In the age of analogs, smoking was a low maintenance affair. You grabbed a pack or two of cigarettes and went out for the day or night. When you got the urge, you pulled one from the pack, lit it up, and smoked it without giving it much thought. When it was finished, you stubbed it out and forgot about it. Being virtually weightless, it could dangle easily from your lips while you used both hands to play piano, shoot pool, shift gears, pour a beer, or twitter. You could share them with your friends. And analogs were consistent. One smoke was pretty much the same as the next, day after day, year after year. You could count on it.

vaping is a different animal. The devices are touchy, tempermental. The lifespan of the components is short. A long day of play out in the world requires taking extra batteries and cartridges, or juice for topping off. The wise will take an extra atomizer just in case. The consistency of vapor and flavor is frequently unreliable. The much-desired 'throat hit' can be elusive. vaping is not a nonchalant activity. It's more a ritual activity requiring the dedication of a true believer. It's not for everyone.

I've been analog free and happily vaping for 10 weeks. I'll never go back.
