Hi all,
I've just switched to vaping after being a long time pack-a-day smoker.
Now don't get me wrong, but I enjoyed smoking most of the time. It was the anti-social aspects and the damage it was doing to me was really getting me down. I was always mindful of where and when I smoked e.g. never where signs were posted, never in confined areas, never at home (my wife is a non-smoker), etc. People would say "I don't mind if you smoke here", but I would reply "But I do!". I would never inflict my bad habit on anyone if I could avoid it.
Nicotine patches never worked for me, maybe because the smoking habit is an 'activity' - you have smoking related kit in your pockets, you twiddle a cigarette or a lighter in your fingers, etc.
Anyway, some friends encouraged me to try vaping. The initial outlay would probably support my smoking habit for a month, as I was (correctly) advised to go for 'proper', high-quality vaping kit. I figured that a month would be needed to convince myself that I'd made the right move. Naturally, and as many of the members here will understand, I am seeing the benefits less that 48 hours after I started. Switching to vaping was the best thing that I could have done, whether I intend to use it as a way of quiting nicotine completely or whether I continue to enjoy nicotine, but in a safer manner.
I started on a Friday, which was a very good move for me. As I already stated, I don't smoke at home (or when my wife is around), so weekends are usually smoke-free for me anyway. I would get the cravings, but I could resist until I got in the car for the drive to work again on Monday a.m.
I was very anxious that vaping would give me the throat hit that smoking gave me. That is the most important part of the experience for me - I didn't want to feel that I was just breathing in air! If I felt that, I would have stopped it almost instantly! I am happy to report that my setup does just that. I don't need to blow plumes of vapour when I exhale - for me it is all about what goes in, not what goes out
So after a very short period of time, I am more confident that vaping will cure me of my smoking habit, more than any other method that I have tried in the past. I am not going to start whooping and high-fiving yet. Instead, I will try to calmly take each day and each situation as it comes. Maybe this is the beginning of a permanent end to smoking for me. I sincerely hope so.
Enjoying reading the ECF forums, picking up tips as I go along.
Best wishes to all.
Rob
