Hey everyone, I've been using e-cigs for several years now. About 3 1/2 years ago I bought myself a Joye 510 after doing much research, and at that time (before you could just go into any liquor store and find e-cigs) the 510 seemed to be the best priced for the best quality. I wasn't disappointed when I got it, and in fact completely quit smoking "real" cigarettes for what I considered an extended period of time (about 6 months). I simply bought new batteries/atty's as needed etc. Until I met my now husband who smokes. I went back to "real" smokes and now am at a point where I want to switch back to vaping only. I've pulled out my old 510 gear and realize that I need to restock on atty's and batteries, but as I'm searching around, it seems as though the 510 is becoming obsolete! I never kept up with different models or different types of attachments. I just restocked myself on standard manual batteries (they were my preference) and atty's. So now here I sit with this 510 stuff which includes a couple good atty's that will last me for a little while, a few good batteries still, and several chargers... but wondering... do I need to upgrade here? If so, what's a good upgrade? I feel confused by all the different options here.

I will say this, I went with the 510 simply because at that time, I was to understand that it provided an excellent throat hit. I was not concerned with size (it's conveniently small, but this is not a deal maker/breaker). I simply want something that's going to "feel" as much like a real cigarette as possible. I felt as though the 510 definitely satisfied that for me. Price would also be an important consideration for me. If there's newer models out there that will provide just as good of throat hit but require less money in replacement parts, I'd be very interested.

Any thoughts as to what I should do? Stick with my 510? Are there other comparable models out there these days (good throat hit, less expensive to maintain?)

I would suggest moving to a good variable watt (VW) model. One that has the features of the larger ones but is closer in size to what you have, is the iTaste V3. With variable watt you can change the warmth of the vapor to meet your specific preference. You should be able to get around 7 - 8 hours on a battery charge with the V3. The V3 uses 510 attys and cartos. I would suggest trying some cartos and then moving to a tank-carto set-up. Here is one reputable supplier of the iTaste V3:

Innokin iTaste VV ( V3.0) Variable Voltage and Variable Wattage Kit

PS: the iTaste V3 is also definitely an upgrade over any of the over-hyped eGo VV models like the twist or spinner as well as being smaller in size.

I was in the same boat as you, a few years ago the Joye 510 was one of the "best" models out there and I recently decided it was time to try and quit again.
I bought an ego-t starter kit on ebay for around $25, it has been great both me and my husband quit on January 1st.
Me being obsessed with new toys I started researching on this forum and just yesterday ordered the iTaste vv 3.0 battery, which I'll keep at home and still bring my ego-t when I go out since the itaste is bigger and more expensive, dont want to lose it.

ETA: I'm not sure what kind of analogs you smoke but I was told by a friend to not get less than 18mg nicotine juice when I first quit since it will give a good throat hit and she was right.

Welcome to ECF!

It good to see you say that size is not concern for you. You really can't expect a cigarette-size battery to perform like a real cigarette. Going to a larger battery can accomplish that.

I recommend a setup utilizing a variable voltage eGo battery, such as a Spinner or Twist. Variable voltage acts like a dimmer switch; you can adjust the voltage to adjust your vapor production. Clearomizers are juice carriers with wicks/coils built in and are easy for beginners to learn. The better clearomizers have replaceable coil heads to prolong the overall longivity of the clearomizer. These replaceable heads are only $3, and are replaced every 2 - 3 weeks. Replace when the flavors become muted or taste burnt, or vapor production drops off.

Throat hit is primarily from the nicotine concentration in the e-liquid. The amount of nicotine should be roughly equivalent to how heavy of a smoker you were. A pack per day smoker would use 12mg nicotine. A 2 ppd smoker would use 24mg nic.

Here's an ideal starter setup and a picture dictionary of the more common juice attachments to use on a battery:

Innokin is a great company and makes great products! the VV 3.0 is a great mod along with the others that they make, MVP, VTR, SVD etc etc. I'm running the SVD right now and when i took that leap forward.. Lets just say it changed my whole vaping career, for the better! Definitely look into getting a VV/VW device, You'll be happy you did. It has helped me a helluva lot more than the eGo style thats for sure.
