I thought some might get a kick out of this.. I personally am not sure whether to be P-O'd at them, laugh at the stupidity/irony, or just ignore it all together.

So Friday night around Midnight my BF and I had to run out to his work and take back some keys he'd accidentally swiped and because the only shoes I own are tennis shoes or boots I went barefoot, it was a lovely 80ish degrees no reason not to (for me at least). Well on the way home he decides he wants to stop at walmart and get some legos (yes my bf is a 26year old toddler ) Well WalMart has nothing posted about requiring shoes and I've been in there a million times shoeless so I didn't think anything of it. So we're shopping and I'm vaping away like I normally do (big plumes of vape without care or concern who sees it) and I decide WTH I'll buy some sandals since Its summer and even at midnight the pavement is a little warm and it's only logical I should have a pair of sandals right?

So I've got my sandals and some other stuff (about $30 worth of crap I only sort of need) and my bf has about $80 worth of legos and we're headed for check out and this lady comes up to me looking all peeved off. So my first thought is she's going to yell at me for "smoking" in the store. So I get all preped to give the explination.

Then I'm totally sideswiped when the b*tch is jumping down my throat not for vaping.. but for not having any shoes on! I end up getting kicked out of the store.. excuse me.. ESCORTED out of the store for not having any shoes on.. at midnight on a friday on a holiday weekend when there was MAYBE 10 other customers in the store! Which getting kicked out wouldnt have irked me so much if it wasn't for the fact I was 10 steps from check out and the woman wouldn't even let me pay for my stuff. I had to put it down right were I stood and leave the store?!

So am I the only one that finds it totally assinine that they ignored the huge plumes of vape and instead had a tissy tantrum about no shoes.. oh and might I also point out the fact that I was wearing pants that were only 1/2 and inch off the floor? How .... do you have to be to notice bare feet with only 1/2 inch of skin to be seen??

ok I'm done.. I was going to put this outside.. but then figured it might be better here.. not sure.. if a mod moves it I wont complain. :D

Any "more mature" opinions on the subject would be appreciated

You probably won't like my comment, but you should wear shoes. They don't need a sign up stating it, you should already know as an adult to wear shoes when you go into a store.

People that do things like walk into a major store without shoes on is why we have all the stupid no brainer warnings and signs up. Such as: Do not use your hair dryer while sleeping or in the tub, or on sun visors "remove before driving"

I am also a Florida girl who never ever wears shoes..except in stores and restaurants. Why? because I have worked in both..you wouldn't believe the "stuff" that is on those floors! I have seen bleach, chemicals, glass that a 6 year old stock clerk couldn't manage to sweep up properly, dog doo that someone tracked in..on and on. I'd rather walk thru a swamp.!
That said..the employee should be repremanded! Brains work when you use them. She could have taken the time to explain why you need shoes and then you would have told her you were buying some. I once saw a kid of about 10 wearing a tee shirt that said things on it that should have made his mother (who was with him) blush. They didn't kick the little %^*^$ out because that would violate his free speech..what about my right not to have to put up with his sorry self!
But shoes are a problem?

Most of the stores in my area post signs that say 'shoes and shirts required' or 'no shoes - no shirt - no service'.

I despise shoes, but have never attempted to go shopping without them.
Shirts - umm - kind of a necessity. lol

I think the real reason they want you to wear shoes is to avoid lawsuits.
If you get cut or whatever, you could sue them and they definitely do not want that.

Honestly I have no problem being asked to leave a store for no shoes.. whouldnt be the first time in my life ( i was raised running around with no shoes.. beach towns and redneckville will do that to ya :p) But for me it was how RUDE the wench was... and the fact that she wouldnt let me buy my stuff before leaving.. i mean over $100 worth of sales over 30more seconds in the store shoeless? really?? that was the part that got to me. I just wanted to buy the kick but flipflops and the spiffy coloring book I'd found.. I plan on going to the other WalMart 5miles away from now on just on principle alone

What is it with people vaping in places like Walmart? Is it an attention thing, hoping that someone comments so you can tell them they are wrong? I'm not trying to start stuff or be an .... I'm just curious. I mean, its not like it would be that difficult to hold out for the 30 minutes it takes to shop.
I vape in walmart - but I don't flaunt it. Why shouldn't we if we want to?

Just curious...if you had the shoes/flops in your hand why they wouldn't allow you to slip them on until you went to the register?

You would think.. but nope.. Like I said I was like 10steps from the checkout and they wouldn't even let me check out. She totally kicked me out of the store, said "you have to leave now" and when I asked how I was supposed to pay for my purchase she pointed to my bf and said "he can pay for it, you have to leave now" I told her that he couldn't use my card (because he can't) and he said "it doesn't matter you have to leave the store now" and my bf asked the very same question as you and she says "no, she has to leave now" So I had to set the stuff down right there and the woman literally walked 4 steps behind me the whole way out of the store. It makes me wonder, if I was really super poor and had broke the only pair of shoes I owned how would I get new shoes? Walmart is like the only store I know that sells shoes that doesn't have a no shoes policy posted on the door.

OH and for the record for anyone that cares, after I got kicked out I went home, borrowed my sisters sandles (I really hate putting on my tennis shoes for just a short trip) and went to another walmart about 5miles away and the Manager there (he was outside smoking and the BF decided to bug him) said that it is neither company policy nor "mesa ordinance" (aparently what the woman told my BF when he ripped into her for being rude before following me out of the store) that shoes are required.

What is it with people vaping in places like Walmart? Is it an attention thing, hoping that someone comments so you can tell them they are wrong? I'm not trying to start stuff or be an .... I vape everywhere, my PV is practically fused to my lips I don't even really think about it anymore. Yea sometimes I try and do it just to be an ... but that rarely pans out for me, people just ignore it anymore, it isn't like it was when I first started vaping where you got weird looks everywhere you go. And with my bf.. shopping is never just 30 minutes, he had me standing in Game Stop for over an hour and a half one day, trips to walmart with him can be 2hours if I don't start whining after the first 20minutes. I think shopping is the #1 problem in our relationship lol

Personally, I would wear shoes in WalMart - especially in WalMart. Some of the people that I see in WalMart are just gross and I want all the protection I can get between me and anything they've ever touched!

Sounds like the lady was a little strict though. Maybe based on your age, appearance, vaping, the fact that you have a boyfriend, etc... this lady had it out for you. She probably leads a sad, sorry, lonely life and was exercising her one outlet of power and control - you just happened to be the only target around then.

I don't think it had anything to do with shoes at all. She wanted you out of the store for vaping in there and that was the only thing she could come up with at the moment. She abused her authority by enforcing a non-existent store policy instead of asking that you stop vaping while in the store. Sad but I think its true.:(

The reason why they do not want you without shoes on, is becuase if there is an accident, ie you step on glass, they get hit with a HUGE fee. Too many of these, it doesn't take many, and the store gets no bonus, which is upwards to $420 every 3 months paid to each associate. Might not sound like much to some, but to a walmart associate its almost a free check (Walmart pays every 2 weeks, so that's 80 hours).

HOWEVER, i wouldn't not have left without talking to the co-manager of the store about being done shopping and wanting to pay for your stuff. There are co-managers there 24/7. Also if that didn't help i would have called the store manager, who's number is posted at customer service.

Yes, i work at walmart. :)
