My friend has been through 4 eGo batteries in about a month, keeps breaking them in his pocket. He's not in a position to be spending money on a nicer mech mod yet, so I found a JM mech on FT for real cheap. I was wondering if anyone has one, and is it worth spending money on? I know you get what you pay for, but there's not a whole lot going on with a mech. My biggest concern is the thread quality and the lock ring. I'd hate to get him into this mod, only for the lock ring to fail, and end up venting a battery in his pocket.
Any experience with a JM mech mod?

read the reviews on ft, they actually put legit reviews as its from their forum. So you will be able to read about the negative and positives of the device from actual customers. That's how I always figure out whats worth a damn there.
Definitely read the reviews, but also read the discussions. For instance, people seem to be having issues with the 510 connection on this clone; apparently, many attys don't fit.
I have a brass m16 which I love. Launcher (ss) has great reviews. Maraxus, though weird looking, also has good reviews. Both the Launcher and the Maraxus have recessed firing buttons, which means the owner doesn't have to worry about unwanted firing. Everyone seems to love the Nemesis clone in any permutation.
Also, safety has more to do with his batteries, charger, and coil/wick arrangement than the mod itself. Make sure to get him two good batteries, a good charger, and a multimeter, and make sure he knows what he's doing with the coil/wick if he's rebuilding. The batteries/charger/multimeter will cost at least 2x what a ft mod costs.

+1 on the safety issues. I don't own a mod with a recessed firing button, I wonder if it's possible for the button to get depressed while in your pockets if you have something else in there as well. I like the locking ring on my Nemesis, and as you have stated a lot of people like them. I got one of mine for under 40.00 on Ebay and it was an HCigar. Very good quality.
To the OP, heed the advice on the batteries and what not. You may know all this, your friend might not.
Thanks for the replies. He's definitely not an advanced vaper. He's using ARO style attys pretty much exclusively, so while I will explain battery safety, I don't think he should run into any trouble using stock heads. I use a Maraxus as my daily vaper. He likes the simplicity, but it's a little to heavy for him to want to carry around.i figured a nemmy style tube would be a little better for him, I just don't have any experience with one.
I got the one with the 3 tubes and was very pleasantly surprised at the chunkiness of the stainless steel. Nice thick tubes. I haven't had a problem with an RDA but don't know about anything else and the threads are kind of sticky but it just needs some noalox.
I'm not at all sure he'll be happy putting an ARO on it (if it will even fit) with stock heads, but I haven't tried.

I'm a noob, and only have the brass Sentinel. I don't use the lock on it around the house, as the button easily takes the weight of the mod without firing. idk about the others, though. It would be extremely impractical to have to lock the firing button every single time you put the thing down.
Another thing to consider might be a VTR. Tank is held next to the unit. Heavy, but it's not going to break 
A bit more pricey though. I got mine from Fasttech as I couldn't find a low enough price here in the states.

I don't lock mine most times but I certainly would if it were in my pocket. I can put mine down as well without firing but I'd still lock it in my pocket
