Hey everyone,

I’m struggling with what I can only believe is an allergy to something surrounding vaping and I’m at a loss.

Rashes most predominantly around my eyes. They itch like mad/ constantly. Tried at least 10 different eye drops both lubricating and antihistamine, and only offer some relief to the itching but not the redness. I look ridiculous. Other areas of sensitive skin on my body are affected (inside elbows, knees, and other another unmentionable area) though not to the extent my eyes are. Itching, redness, etc. I’m now on a steroid which is helping but I’m coming off it and the itching/ redness along with it.

The more I vape, the worse it is. The lower the wattage, the better it is; but either way it’s still miserable regardless.

I’ve switched from a 70/30 VG/PG to 100% VG thru Kia’ Virgin Vapor and it helped somewhat. On 70/30 the nerves in my eyes would feel like they were popping, and I was literally scratching my eyelids with my nails because they itched so bad. On 100% VG that has gone down, but again still pretty miserable.

I run a Crown Prince tank thru Smok with T10 coils at 100w. I was using a Uwell Crown tank and I don’t remember having this issue nearly as severe with it. Ran that at 60w. Always use 6mg nic. I drink water all day long, and really nothing but water. Probably 2.5L a day.

Been vaping for 4-5 years. I’m at a loss. I love vaping but I can’t deal with this anymore. Really don’t want to quit or worse end up buying a pack.

Any ideas or experience with this kind of thing? Thanks!
Jeff

My guess is an allergy to a component in the e-liquid or the metal drip tip. You can develop a new allergy to any substance at any time.

Allergy symptoms are exactly as you have described. Itching, redness, swelling.

It's not that uncommon for vapers to have a hypersensitivity or allergy to Pg or specific flavoring agents. It's also not that uncommon to have a metal allergy (especially nickle or unspecified metal alloys) in the drip tip.

Good move to switch to an all Vg e-liquid. You may wish to switch out the drip tip for a delrin plastic tip. I use the Cherry Vape Cloud Chaser drip tips (delrin) simply because I don't like metal tips.

    Welcome to ECF!

It sounds like you've tried almost everything. It could be the flavorings. You could try unflavored. Some people have a reaction to VG but it's not as common as PG problems.

    +1 on trying Unflavored.

I actually switched the drip tip on it just because I wanted to buy a new one and this one isn’t metal.

You ever hear of people have issues with their coils? Wondering if that’s even a thing, and if it is is there even an alternative..

Have you had full panel allergy testing?

Seems if you've tried differing Pg/Vg ratios it is down to nic source, flavorings & sweeteners.

    Might give unflavored a try.

It isn't uncommon to build up a sensitivity to certain things over time.

I’m actually having allergy testing done on Wednesday. When I asked if we could do some testing on PG/VG she acted like I was speaking Hebrew, but said I could talk to the doc about it.

Yes I have. There are coils made from kanthal, stainless steel, nickle, nichrome, and titanium. I believe the SMOK coils are all kanthal.

Maybe I missed the point here in my first reply... could it be that I’m just using a cheap coil and need to use Smok brand coils that are made with Kenthal? I don’t know much about coils honestly.

Great!! Any ideas on alternatives? Appreciate your help with this!
I don't use SMOK products, but I believe there are other coils other than those made by SMOK for your tank. Someone else may be offer suggestions.

The coils used in the original Uwell Crown use stainless steel coils. That's the tank I'm currently using.

I’ll see if I can’t find some unflavored VG online and try that out. Trying to find a liquid without PG was a challenge.

    Not sure where you live?

But if there is a Vape Shop near you, just walk in and ask them for a Bottle of Unflavored in the Nicotine Level and PG|VG ration that you want.

If it works, then you could buy Nicotine Base in what you like. Or buy Nicotine Base in a Higher Nicotine Level and Dilute it with VG or VG and PG.
