Sent my nic back to Box Elder Chemical on Saturday morning and received a confirmation of receipt tonight. That is fast. My congrats to Brad at Box Elder For his willingness to face this matter immediately and directly.
Now then--after receiving Brad's email tonight regarding receiving my returned goods and the remittance of my expenditure-- I received the email from PayPal notifying me that I had been paid x amount of dollars from Box Elder and what do I want to do with the refund. These were the displayed choices:
Once the money's there you can:
Spend the money online at thousands of stores that accept PayPal.
Transfer it to your bank account (takes 2-3 days).
Get a PayPal Debit MasterCard.
[h=4]Don't see the money in your account?[/h]Don’t worry - sometimes it just takes a few minutes for it to show up.
Sincerely,
PayPal

Are those the only choices? Can't I have it returned to my original credit card account? Damned if I'll attach my bank account to my PayPal account.
Yes, yes, I know, buying another REO would take care of the "surplus", but that's not in the cards right now.
I know there are some PayPal experts here--any help?
BTW, I have not contacted PayPal for an answer yet. Wanted to check with my homies first.
Roger

I believe that if you don't want PP to have your CC number, you will need to transfer it to your bank account. It will transfer to the bank account you have associated with PP. I did this a few weeks ago with money I got for a mod I sold. It does take a few days.

Quite the contrary. They have my credit card # , its my bank account # that I refuse to share---much to PayPals chagrin. They seem to hate that.
I refused to give them a bank account # and found that they will still activate an account for you on your credit card. They don't like it but they'll do it.
I want the money returned to my credit card account from whence it came--just like any one-star motel will do if you cancel a reservation within their limits.
It can't be that tough.

I would go on line at PayPal and see what your account looks like there. If it's prompting you to do something as stated in the e-mail, select "Transfer it to your bank account" and see what options - or not - you are given. Either it's going to prompt you to give them bank checking or savings account info - which which we know you don't want to do. Or it's going to give you the option to refund back to the credit card on file that you made the purchase with. If it does not give you the latter option it's time to call PP - they actually do pick up when you call - and raise some firm, but polite, heck.

I'll do just that. Good idea.:)

According to PayPal:

Can I withdraw funds to my credit, debit, or prepaid card?

No. You can’t withdraw money to a credit, debit or prepaid card. You can withdraw funds to your local bank account or by check

My guess is that there are mechanics of PayPal transactions that limit what can/can not be done with a credit card. (Besides there being fees involved with refunds - every cc company charges them; it could also be that money was sent to you but a technical 'refund' was not issued. )

You could call PP - see if they have a workaround - or simply go for their pre-paid credit card (they used to send checks but apparently that's no long an option).

Of course - you could also use your bank account as well - if you don't want to permanently tie it to the account - ask the representative if you can use it for a one-time deal.

Nope--didn't work. PayPals site went straight to asking for the routing #, etc.
I guess I'll give it a rest for tonight and tackle it tomorrow or so. It's Monday and I have only so much piss & vinegar in me--used most of it up at work.
Thanks for all the great input, fellow REOnauts. Your responses made my day.:)

Oops, thought I was done but your post brought this to mind.
Am I to assume that every time I purchase something through PayPal and wish to return it--this is what will happen?

It would appear so - at least it would depend on how the return/refund is issued - my guess is, yes - each time (hopefully it doesn't happen that often right?)

You know, I didn't read a particularly important segment of your first post well enough: "it could also be that money was sent to you but a technical 'refund' was not issued."
I suspect that is the issue. The money is, for whatever reason, being sent to me by an individual as opposed to being refunded by the company in question.
You are a smart cookie, OttoBahn. I don't recall your name but I'll be keeping an eye on you.:)
Thanks,
Roger

I use a separate account at my local credit union just for paypal.

I don't keep more than 10-20 bucks in it and there is no line of credit associated with the acct.
(So I can't get ripped off too bad) :D

Then if I wan't to buy something I just add the funds to that acct either on line or in person.

I know its not what you wan't to hear but it might be the best bet.
I needed an acct tied to mine for selling stuff.

Credit unions are great, the acct is free all i have to do is keep 1 dollar in a savings acct there and I can have up to 5 checking accounts for free.

And the let me go paperless so I never get any mail from them at all :):):):):)

Greetings Roger

PayPal has multiple layers of tech support. I don't know if they'll refund a charge to your credit card but it's likely that neither will the first line of tech support. They are reading scripts. Escalate it until you get someone that isn't just throwing canned answers at you. If you ask "why" and they can't tell you, keep climbing the ladder. Eventually you'll reach some very helpful and knowledgeable people. Good luck!

I deal with PayPal all the time. My suggestion would be to contact Box Elder Chemical and tell them that you want them to send your refund some other way and not through PayPal. You should be able to return Box Elder Chemicals refund through PayPal easier than getting your money from PP with no bank account tied in.
