As the title says I have been having an annoying issue lately when vaping. I use mostly 2 techniques to vape, fill my mouth then inhale, and a direct lung inhale. The direct lung inhale is mostly used when I'm dripping to get a nice big flavor hit. The last week or so when I am using my drippers and lung inhaling I end up with the hiccups right after taking a hit. It is soooo annoying. I have tried inhaling slower, faster, every way in-between and it keeps happening. Once it happens every single time I puff its hiccup, hiccup, hiccup. Boy oh boy is it irritating!!!

Not sure there is a definitive solution to this but figured I'd ask here and see if anyone else has this problem.

There is nothing worse than taking a nice big rip off of my Igo-w and then hiccuping, it really messes with me. Sometimes I will start coughing, watery eyes, and it just doesn't taste as wonderful.

This is a common symptom of a nicotine overdose and is frequently seen not only in Vaping but also during treatment with NRT products. I've had the hiccups from pretty much all the forms of NRT I've tried (gum, oral spray, nasal spray and film strips but not patches) and once or twice from Vaping.

It more commonly occurs when you get a little bit of eliquid in your mouth but may also occur when Vaping too much. Consider lowering your Nicotine strength, spacing out Vaping more and/or taking smaller inhalations.

Nicotine overdose sounds like it could be whats happening to me. I started with and have been using 18mg since I started vaping. I just got into and started dripping 10-14 days ago. the hiccups is a fairly new side effect for me especially when I'm dripping the 18mg. I actually sometimes feel that I'm getting a lot more nicotine during a heavy drip session.

I think I'll try lowering the nicotine soon and see if that helps

Hmmm... the hiccups could be caused by irritation of the phrenic nerve, which runs down your neck, through your chest to your diaphragm (the thing that's spasming). It could be the PG that's irritating it or - as in the case of a previous poster who got them after eating - the nerve could be irritated from swallowing and then sent "over the edge" by the vapor. If it really bothers you, you could try an anesthetic spray (or even a cough drop) to desensitize the nerve.

The ONLY time use of any nicotine product has given me the hiccups was when I was using a product designed to be swallowed, such as the Comitt Lozenges and Snus. Also sometimes with normal dip if any happened to drain down my throat.

That said I wonder if any juice, possibly from splatters or what not, is getting sent down your throat to cause this.

If that doesn't work, come back and demand answers ;)

With the NRT's - and vaping - it comes from ingesting nicotine. With the NRT's it's obvious: it gets into your saliva, you swallow it - and there you go. That's why the Nic-O-Gum instructions tells you to park it because if you don't and keep chewing you end up with too much nic in your saliva and... hiccups.

For people who are having a real problem with this you need to drop the lung inaling for a while or try changing up your vape style. Something you are doing in your vape technique is causing you to swallow vape/air. Ditto with people complaining of heartburn and burping. http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/ecf-library/337017-inhalation-technique-e-cigarette.html

OP, you may be pulling too hard and swallowing too much air. Easy does it.

That is a definite possibility too. I am going to try changing my inhale technique 1st and see if that helps at all. I do take massive hits sometimes...

I appreciate all the help and information everyone has posted so far!

Really? I was told by my GP that the reason you're supposed to park the gum is because the gum is designed to release nicotine at a slow rate over a timespan of approximately 30 minutes. Once you've chewed the gum slowly (around five chews for me) you begin to feel a slight tingly/stong minty flavour, which means the nicotine is being release. You then PARK the gum as the nicotine is absorbed through the membranes in the mouth (specifically through the gums) from the nicotine gum. When the flavour subsides, you chew once again to get through another "layer" of the gum and park it between your teeth and your mouth. You repeat until the gum no longer produces the tingly/minty taste.

This is also why you're advised to park the gum in a different place each time - this maximises the amount of nicotine that can be absorbed, while also reducing the chance of irritation.
