Thanks upStomp! ecigexpress has a pretty good selection, but didn't have what I was looking for. I need Cinnamon Roll flavor (both LorAnn and Capella's) for a recipe I'm working on. I've been using mostly FlavourArt flavorings, but haven't been able to get that "bakery" taste. Their Cookie flavor is pretty good, so maybe I just need to find the right combination of Vanilla and Cinnamon flavors. I have the FA Tahiti Vanilla, Tasty Puff Vanilla, PA French Vanilla, and Capella's Vanilla Custard. The only Cinnamon I have is food grade essential oil which is verrrry powerful.

Anyone else have ideas for getting a pastry-type flavor in a recipe? I'd also like to make a cake-type flavor. I have FA Pandoro, and it's close, but I can taste maybe lemon in it, (just the slightest bit - it's actually not too bad). I generally like foods with lemon, but I don't like vaping lemon for some reason. Maybe FlavourArt should make "Flour" flavoring! Just Plain White Cake or Doughnut would also be nice.

Are there any DIYers using Croissant or Bread Crust FA flavorings for pastry-type e-liquids with any success?

Pandoro has 2% diacetyl... not sure you want to vape that.

Good call - I never even thought to check. And it's at a higher concentration than even the Butter flavor. I'm not one to lose sleep over such things, but I'll certainly err on the side of caution when other options are available.

Also might be worth your time to call around to a few local food service supply shops that specialize in bakery supplies. Also check with a local bakery or one of your grocery store bakeries to find out where they get theirs. We have a local one (google gygi) here that sells flavorings at an awesome price. Only cost in getting them is the time and gas to the shop plus you are able to keep some business in your local community (I believe in keeping it local where possible).

I have Pandoro and it tastes alright, but there is some kind of lemon flavor in it. I'm not going to lose sleep either, upStomp, over the diacetyl thing. By the time an e-liquid with flavoring that has it is mixed, it has just a trace amount and I'm not going to worry about it.

How many drops/ml do you use when you use it? I'm not going to worry about the flavorings that are well below 1%. Yes, the 2% then gets used as a small percent of the ejuice.

The type of exposure workers in some settings where they got brochiolitis obliterans was something like .02-.03 ppm for chronic exposure or peak exposures around 0.25 ppm. That is parts per million not just percent. You are knowingly vaping above both of those.

There's really nothing nice I can say about how bad of advice it is to just say "Don't lose sleep over it."

I don't care what you do, but I don't advise others to follow if they enjoy living. BO takes a while to show up and there is no cure except a lung transplant.

I do try to shop locally whenever I can. You are right - it is important to support our local businesses. I've bought LorAnn locally, but usually don't find much of a selection. Near Thanksgiving and Christmas, the stores will have more and I found one that special ordered LorAnn flavors I wanted, but they will only do this during the "baking and candy-making" season.

I spent some time today searching for local baking supply stores, but only found one. It didn't have the flavors I wanted and the ones they did have were by the gallon. Next I will try looking in the phone book. I could also call Capella and LorAnn and ask if they have any retail customers in my area. I do know of a couple baking supply stores in my area, but they don't have websites. I feel an obligation to especially support small local businesses.

I talked with eCigExpress today and was told they won't be ordering more Capella, because Capella does not want to sell wholesale. eCigExpress is expecting to have a larger selection of FlavourArt and also plans to sell FA in 10ml bottles in addition to the 30ml, so that is good news.

I have hundreds of dollars invested in DIY flavorings. So I did a little playing around with what I have. I'm trying to make a Maple Frosted Roll recipe. I just got some of this flavor of e-liquid from Kick Bass Vapor and the blend was perfect, just not quite strong enough for me. I pumped it up a bit with some Maple FlavourArt, and it made it strong enough for my taste, but threw the balance off a little. I used it all and wanted that taste so bad again. They are going through growing pains and didn't know when I would be able to order again so I mixed up a batch of my own using:

Perfumer's Apprentice: Waffle, Maple Syrup, Marshmallow, Bavarian Cream, Sweet Cream
FlavourArt: Vienna Cream, Butter, Maple, Cream

It also needed some Cinnamon. The only Cinnamon I have is Nature's Gift Pure Essential Oil Cinnamon Bark. I mixed one drop with 3 mls of PG and this dilution compares to FlavourArt flavoring. It's really strong. I was on a Ginger kick for a while and made some e-liquid with Nature's Gift Pure Essential Oil Ginger by just dipping a toothpick into the oil and stirring it in 4 mls of flavorless e-liquid. It was quite good. I know you're not supposed to use oil in e-liquid, but with this very small amount I had no problems with clogged atomizers. I used two drops of my Cinnamon Bark dilution in a 15 ml mix with all the other flavors listed above.

The Frosted Maple Rolls batch I made will tide me over until I get my order in from Kick Bass Vapor. My batch was not as good as theirs and I didn't feel like playing around anymore. I wrote to them and asked if they could customize an order for me with extra flavoring using an 80/20 PG/VG mix. (Their regular choices are 60/40 or 70/30.) So far, they have been great with customer service and have received many good reviews. I think extra flavor costs 50 cents, which is fine with me. I PM'd my order yesterday with my special requests, and it was shipped within an hour. They do have a website now where you can see all their flavors, but it wasn't working yesterday. I'm sure it will be soon though. They have been bombarded with private message orders and are working as hard as possible to get their new company up and running.

Keelalagirl55, one of the first flavorings I tried was Bickford. They're alright, but they are so weak, I can vape them without any dilution. I didn't have a chance to call them to ask for recommendations for other companies, and I felt a little embarrassed to do that anyway.

Ler, I hope your Nature's Flavors Danish Pastry flavor works for you. I looked around on their site a bit and you're right, they are expensive, but not too bad. They have an awesome selection. It's so hard to find reviews for all the flavorings available. A person could spend days doing that. So I appreciate learning about a new flavoring company. I hope to hear about your experience with this flavor. I love pastry and baked goods flavors and Danish Pastry sounds like an excellent flavor for making these types of e-liquids.

Later, I may keep trying to perfect my Maple Frosted Roll recipe and would like to find a good Pecan flavoring to add to it.

DIY is fun, but it' also a lot of work. I'm at the point now that if I find a good ready-made e-liquid, I'm quite happy to let someone else make it for me. It's nice though to have a bunch of flavorings on hand to "fix" the ones I get if they're not quite right.

Well, I guess I'm selfish, but I really hope you perfect your maple frosted roll recipe and share it! Sounds soooo good! I got a couple of bottles of really good pre-made ejuice, and it got me into diy...would have been a lot cheaper to just buy it! But I'm new, so even with all the failures, I'm having a ball. Sounds like you've been doing this awhile, got any recipes?

You've probably already tried the PA pecan, but I've found it really strong and tastes like pecans. I put a little bit in a mix I made and that was all I could taste. (failed German chocolate cake recipe, lol) And thanks for the bickford tip...been eying them.

Hopefully someday I'll perfect Maple Frosted Rolls. The one I mixed has way too many ingredients I think - some of this, some of that, da da da.... And it doesn't have the nom nom effect. I've been getting my FlavourArt flavorings from Liberty Flights and they've been out of some of the FA flavorings for a while now. I'm hoping they'll get them in soon though, because there are some more FA flavors I'd like to have on hand. Thanks Ler for the FA Pecan info. That will be on my shopping list. BTW, where do you get your FlavourArt flavorings?

OK, a couple recipes (easy ones) - Remember, I like strong flavor, so maybe try a drop or two less flavoring.

Chocolate Hazelnut (do you like Ferrero Rucher?): 10 ml 80/20 PG/VG base, Add 6 drops FlavourArt Hazelnut, 6 drops FlavourArt Cocoa.

Peach: 10 ml 80/20 PG/VG base, Add 12 drops Tasty Puff Pimpy Fresh Peach. (Tasty Puff is as strong as FlavourArt)

With these high concentrated flavors, it's best to let them sit uncapped for a day. Then, if you have the patience, put the cap back on and let them sit for a week. I know it's such a pain waiting and I have never waited a whole week before vaping. They taste alright just after you mix them, but they do get better as they age. If they develop a weird taste after a couple days, just dilute them a little with your preferred PG/VG base. Also, if you cross the line with too much flavor, you may not even taste the flavor. A lot of people seem to think that FlavourArt doesn't give their mixes enough flavor and that probably means they are just using too much. I usually mix about 4%, but the Tiramisu and Maple seem to need about 7%. Their Nut Mix seems to only need 1 or 2% - translated: 1 or 2 drops in 3-4 mls of base liquid.

These high-concentrated flavors seem to give a cleaner, purer taste. I do like working with Perfumer's Apprentice flavors though because the aging thing isn't as critical. I tend to use them at 15%, but sometimes I get a perfumey taste with them, so that means I should back off a bit to 10-12%.

Peanut Butter & Banana: 10% Perfumer's Apprentice Peanut Butter, 5% PA Banana Cream (remember to figure this in with your PG total).

Peanut Butter & Honey: 10% PA Peanut Butter, 5% PA Honey

If you use more VG than I do in your mix, it tends to take away some of the flavor (for me anyway), so you might need more flavoring.

Happy mixing!
