Anyone else has had these symptoms in their first days?

I went down from 21+ cigs a day to 6-8 after getting my first actually working e-cig system (Ego spinner). After 5 days of serious vaping (70/30 pg/vg) I started having a sore throat, a bit like I was coming up with a cold but no trouble swallowing. No sweat, I put the voltage down, vaped less and drank more water. I thought it might be the pg or just too much vaping/not enough water.

Last night I woke up with heavy cough, wheezing and shortness of breath, but not coughing up anything. Now I'm thinking it's the VG and I did happen to have some 100% vg juice. Tried that and coughed like I was smoking a dozen stink sticks at once. I can really feel that vg like it is actual smoke right now. The stink sticks are not so bad at the moment, but I can tell my lungs are more sensitive than normal.

It could still be a mild flu virus, but I'm also considering side effects due to ingredients, getting used to vaping or from going from 20+ stinkies a day to about 6. Anyone else with a similar experience??

Yup had the same side-effects. Mine turned into a cold eventually. What really helped me was always having a bottle of water while vaping, take a few sips in between pulls. You lose a lot of moisture from vaping. Also 100% VG shouldn't be an issue, if anything it should produce less throat irritation. VG is however heavier than PG making your inhales a little more "cumbersome".

Initially my side-effects were
1) Acidity/stomach aches
2) Irritable throat which turned into a cold eventually
3) Dizziness (I didn't realize that I was taking in a lot more nic while vaping than smoking, the nic OD caused dizziness)
4) Constipation

All of the above eventually went away after 1-2 weeks.

VG molecules are VERY large comparatively speaking. It affects me that way if I inhale it deeply. Thus I quit doing that. I now shallowly inhale and don't have to worry about the PG/VG ratios anymore. I do have mild asthma during allergy season and that's when it hit me the first time... but it made me leary of VG from then on. Even shallowly inhaling I make sure my VG ratio doesn't exceed 50%. Alot of people here use 100% VG and I have to wonder how they do it... maybe don't inhale very deeply or, maybe, don't vape as much as I do? Who knows but I can't handle it.

Thanks for all the replies!

Thanks, I already read that one, but I felt my sore throat was really flu-like without the swallowing issues and not mention of the coughing feeling exactly like a bronchitis - wheezing included.

I caught what felt like a cold the first week that I was smoke free and was vaping like crazy. I'm pretty sure it was a combination of quitting smoking and heavy vaping all at one time.

Good to know I'm not an isolated case!

VG is not an problem in my throat, but I can really feel it in my lungs right now, so I was wondering if I was having a reaction to it as it is mentioned in the link up there that some people can't handle it, mostly those who have asthma and various lung issues.

1-2 weeks, I can live with that no problem :)

Many of us had the so-called "quitter's flu" when switching to vaping. It's very common.

Ahhh, it is much clearer mentioned as "quitter's flu", so at least I know I'm not necessarily actually sick or reacting badly to pg or vg (although vg alone feels pretty harsh right now). My lungs are pretty sensitive to the vapor at the moment so I inhale as little as possible and cut down vaping by about half; it that also part of the initial package?

I never inhaled very deeply whether it be stinkies or vaping, but it's good to know these symptoms are probably not from the VG.

Allergy season seems to have hit me like a ton of bricks 2 days ago, but I wonder if vaping some crazy menthol and letting it out through my nose might not have something to do with it by making me more sensitive and opening my sinuses like it hasn't happened to me in decades... I'm pretty sure all of these are tightly linked, but there's nothing like hearing others have experienced pretty much the same. Thanks!

glad to know I'm not the only one that does this. I got a sore throat the first day so I switched to partially inhaling-start off with clean air, then finishing off with vapor-then I know I get ALL the vapor out of my lungs. I smoked analogs this way too.

Actually VG can be a no no if you have lung issues like COPD. I have read if you do keep it at no less mix 70/30. I suffer from COPD and first started out with high VG mixes and felt it weigh my lungs down. Almost felt worse then when I was smoking analogs. If you haven't already you may want to get your lungs checked with one of those breathing tests just to be on the safe side.

Stick with a 70/30 mix, however I can do a 50/50 if I don't chain vape or inhale to much. Also don't know what kind of setup you have. Ohm resistance wattage and making sure it is wicking properly and your not getting silica hits. The misses was running her dry when she first started and just thought it tasted off, but when woke up and saw her tank empty three mornings in a row I asked her if she was hitting it right up until she went to bed, and she was. Eww Nasty.

I had a full battery of tests last year (including blood test) and my lungs are just fine aside the fact I could lose some weight and get better lung capacity out of it.

I did get the dry wick problem, but fixed that after a few dry hits (made me cough, which seemed abnormal). I also have done mostly 50/50 mix in the past with my older system with no issues, but I wasn't chain vaping since it was rather discouraging. Now I have the Ego spinner with a standard aspire BDC tank and vaporizer, which do a fine job for me so far (too much of a good job compared to the old POS setup).

I didn't have a single issue during the first 4-5 days, so it sounds like it's just symptoms of cutting down drastically on the stink sticks. Those I can smoke just fine despite the symptoms, so there has to be a little factor of chain vaping like mad mixed in there, although I can feel the toll they're having on my lungs after putting one out. Funny how you only realize what you've been doing to your lungs only when you're quitting.

I never inhaled that much myself, so your post is encouraging for me. If you can still have 70/30 PG/VG with COPD, then I don't see why I couldn't.

I went through the same thing. Was using 18mg 70pg/30vg. Got a sore throat and shortness of breath. Cut down vaping for a few days and after a week was back to normal. Not sure if it was too high of a nic level and/or the PG% but I cut down to 12mg and at most 50% pg juices and been fine since.

Looking forwards cutting down from 18mg to 12 mg myself and going back to vaping 3-5 mL a day. I didn't get dizziness or anything like that, but I'm sure I can do with 12mg easily since I barely ever had actual cravings, even after spending most of the day on airplanes and in terminals. I just wanted that next cigarette more for the ritual and the smoke. Feels like vaping is really for me :)

All good advice on this thread, it's probably a hangover from the analogues, but also, from my personal experience, I never found my best experience until I used cartomizers (I've never used RDAs though). I tend to chain vape and as they're much milder, but with great flavour, they suit me best with no soreness or irritation.

So many options with vaping, you'll easily find something that suits you and wonder why you ever smoked at all.

I felt like total crap the first couple weeks. I do believe it was years and years of pack and a half a day working it's way out of my lungs. I'll spare the gory details, but it was pretty damn disgusting. Now I breathe better than I ever have, I don't wheeze when I roll out of bed in the morning. Don't sweat it, you'll start feeling a lot better. I'm sure everyone here has had the same experience.
