vaping in public.....HECK YEA!!!!
I am not rude about it, I vape in a sneaky sort of way but just enough so others see me "do" something. Then when asked am more than happy to explain that this is my personal vaporizer that has allowed me to quit smoking tobacco.

I give them the addy to this site if they ask for more info. My smoker friends are accepting, but think it is weird. I did convert 3 pp, but they get easily frustrated because it takes some mastering of the PV. It does not smoke like an analog and that seems to be more difficult for them and frustrating.

Vape on friends!!!

Not a bit shy. I have an e-mail that I send when I get all the inquiries about it, including this forum and links to get equipment. I get addresses every day by people noticing what I'm doing and wanting to quit analogs. I do, however, make sure it is okay, so I'm polite about it. I don't want to be "in your face" about it.

I have only used mine at home, around the neighbours and family. I showed it to some friends at work when I first got it but now I just go to my car at break and use it. I am to chicken to smoke it in the coffe shop or other public places. It seems to work "different" when I smoke it outside , could be just me , could be the ambient air is a little cooler or something , has anyone else noticed that?

I just recently learned that there are cities, actual whole cities, where people are banned from smoking cigarettes, indoors or out. Maybe I've been living under a rock but certain laws seem far too draconian to me. Keith Richards smoked a cotton ball in a jestful protest at London's O2 Arena recently and the incident was actually investigated. Somebody had to investigate! How weird. Now mind you, I might be an old man but I remember when everyone smoked .. men, women and kids, and this pandering to anti-everything is just too weird in my mind.

So I can understand where some people might be shy about public vaping since, by it's very nature, some zealots will wrongfully link it to smoking, and smoking is just about the most evil thing a person can do today, akin to rape and murder. When I was a smoker I never blew smoke in someone's face, and I won't vape in anyone's face today, but I do feel I have a right to vape if I want. If I don't vape in some public places, however, it's because I'm polite; acquiescence is not giving in. Push me and I WILL insist on doing what I will. I don't understand this generation that tolerates today's trend of fascist dictums. Bow to one ridiculous directive and you bow to them all.

I started using an E-Cigarette when I lived in Japan over a year ago and I was really nervous and hardly ever used it in public unless I was at a smoking station. Mainly because walking and smoking is looked down upon and being a gaijin definitly did not help. It was pretty annoying especially when I would go to a Giants game and the smoking section was pretty crowded and everyone was smoking tobacco and I was using an ecigarette.

I'm always a little iffy about smoking in Public but I do it anyway. I keep the vapor in just long enough so you can see something come out (not intentionally) and if anyone asks I give them any information they want. Seeing as I am 20 (as of Monday :) ) my family takes it as a joke unfortunately so i do it inside when I visit and don't really do it around them because it is frustrating trying to explain it to them when they don't take me seriously anyway because I'm so "young" and I don't know what I am talking about even though I have been researching this stuff for about a month now daily.

I was shy at first about vaping in public, but, every time I did, someone would ask me about it. I would try to explain the best way I could, and all thought it was pretty cool. Funny, but only one person I know has even considered buying one to try.

I have to be honest, and say that the only reason I was willing to try an e-cig was due to my experiences with a green plant that has become very newsbound, especially in CA. I have used a vaporizer with that in the past, so I knew the benefits vs. traditional smoking.

My latest trip to an old office where I used to work was the best. A friend of mine had asked how the e-cig thing was going, and I whipped it out and puffed on it for him. He stared in disbelief at the cloud of vapor. He then got up and said loud enough for the whole office to hear - "Hey, everyone! John has traveled into the future, and guess what - we don't smoke anymore - we vaporize". I got the biggest laugh from that. Still, only one person asked me about it.

Happy (vapor) trails!

Sorry, forgot to mention:

I too vaped at the gas station while pumping gas. Got a scared look from the guy on the other side of the pump, but I think he realized it was not a traditional cig after I put it into my pocket.

Crud, that reminds me. PLEASE BE VERY CAREFUL when carrying an e-cig in your pocket. I put mine in my pocket yesterday, and got burnt after about a minute. Come to find out that when you walk, it is possible to create a very slight vacuum inside your pocket, and it can activate the battery on your e-cig. Fortunately, I only hosed my atty, and the burn was not bad. I use the carts that have the atty built in, so only lost about $2 worth. From now on, I take the cart off before I put it in my pocket. Bear in mind this was in my pants pocket. A coat or shirt pocket may not do the same...

Now I smoke with my stinky smoker friends. They are all tempted to go the e-smoking route. They ..... about the price. I've told them "Just wait until the next tax hike. You'll stop whining."

Price? I spent about $200 a month on cigarettes, the e-cig is saving me money already.

Only real problem is I can't get parts or juice at the corner store like I can cigs.

I cannot believe that people are vapeing in gas / petrol stations??!!??

Petrol / Gas is so flammable it is ridiculous to use anything that can get as hot as an atomiser. We need to be sensible else we will be banned from using these things in public. The first gas / petrol station to blow up will be the end of e-cigs :-((((((

I think anywhere smoking has always been banned for logical reasons we should continue with e.g. flammable areas.

Other than that I think we must take our courage in both hands and use as much in public as we can to get people to accept it and to make it easier for ourselves and other vapers.

I think at some point we will see 'electronic cigarette welcome' signs :)

BUT - ONLY IF WE USE THEM WISELY NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Amen to that!

At least for now, I think we should also be cautious in other places that we've been accustomed to being nonsmoking areas for years. How we present ourselves while e-cigs are controversial and not well known will impact ultimate acceptance by a public that is strongly against anything they associate with cigarettes.

WE know e-cigs are a good thing, but there are plenty of people who'll need time to get used to seeing them. We have to be patient, and willing to put them away sometimes.

I've only been vaping for a few days. I see it as a substitution so I don't smoke cigarettes. I have been discreetly vaping in my cube at work. There is a picture on the wall that I can see in the reflection if anyone is walking by. If at some point someone notices says something and makes an issue of it, I'll simply ask them if it has bothered them for the past (howeverlong it's been since I started doing it) and hope that it makes a valid point. I want them to support the fact that I don't want to smoke analongs anymore. I did go out to the smoking area and it just reeks to stand around there. Non smokers don't want to be around the smoke. Why should I be forced to be around it when I am not smoking?

Oops, just realized how old the posts here are. Sorry if I brought back up an old thread.

Don’t sweat it. It’s still a very relevant topic in my opinion. I have been vaping discreetly in my office after some cautious explaining to the adjoining cube dwellers. Their acceptance was better than I expected and I could use it openly if I preferred but I prefer not to call attention to myself.

I have found most are genuinely interested in the idea but it’s easy to tell the Vaporphobes when I run across them. Some are just not ready to let go of the persecution with which they have grown so accustomed. Smokers are really the only group of people left that it is somehow acceptable to screw with socially. It’s never been about anyone’s health, first or secondhand smoke. It’s about power and using that power on a minority that has no real chance of disputing the evidence that using tobacco is unhealthy.

As far as the Vaporphobes, let them whisper and conspire because there is no stopping that. They will try to find a negative angle – it’s what negative people do. I just hope logic prevails eventually and the e cigarette is recognized in this country for what it really is.

I'll be fine with vaping in public, I'm already ready for all of the questions to come when I finally get mine. I haven't even got it yet and I've already been telling random smokers outside of the bar about it while I've been out there smoking with them. (After someone brings up the topic of how much the cost of analogs have gone up)

How very true.
