I sure hope your quitting smoking is "permanent"- it might also be pertinent for the doctor to know........
my doctor is thrilled after 45 yrs. I finally quit and was totally encouraging and supportive......

My auto correct screwed me over again lol.

Last time I went in, he handed me a business card for a friend of his who opened a vape shop recently.
Wow! Now that's something new. MD's recommending a vape-shop.

Real-world and practicality-wise, that is awesome. Medical ethics-wise, I can't help but wonder if that's completely kosher.

I don't have a doctor. 'Murica!

My Mom's doc knows she's trying to transition to electronic, though. He's not against it. Recommended she do the patch in conjunction with it, which I think is a fairly dangerous suggestion considering how fragile her health can be at times, even though patch/gum combo therapy is sometimes beneficial for heavy smokers. But no, he's pretty accepting of the idea.

I'm surprised you guys just offer off the information. I want to get out of the Dr's office asap and if during my visit if it's pertinent to know how I quit smoking I'm sure they would ask.

Why keep that information from your doctor?? Doctors are just like the rest of us and are quite busy and can be influenced by the negative press that spews out lies about vaping. The more patients they see who stopped smoking by vaping, the better chance we have of changing overall perceptions about vaping.

I know what you mean. He has been on me for years to quit and prescribed me many items that were unsuccessful.
I suspect that his actions were not the rule, more like the exception, for my particular case.
He is an old army doctor with a small clientele so it is certainly a more personal experience.... we usually talk about what he has done recently to his race car.

Sounds like the best kind of doc to have. One that treats you as an individual instead of just a number/statistic. It's great that you have such a collaborative relationship regarding your care/health. It appears to be a trend (doctors who don't use assembly line methods) and it's a good one!

Berner,

When I told my Cardiologist I had not smoked for sever months he was pleased. When I told him I was vaping he just said to watch out and not overdo the nicotine but other than that he thought it was a much better deal than cigarettes and when he listened to my chest and couldn't hear the wheezing any more he was real pleased.

after finding and reading through this tread , it dawned on me that i recall i was part of a clinical study that was going on at my primary doc office about 10 years ago with a type of vapor ecig surpression device . i remember it as if it was yesterday now , they did supply them to us to try out in the study and asked our opinions as participants , it was a simple looking device had a box shape and a button you pushed . if i recall correctly and had a nutty taste to it . i honestly really didnt like the taste that much
now i realize what i was honestly trying a vapor device ecig in its early stages .
ok fast fwd. 2013
my doc knows what im doing and his comment to me was the following .
do to the fact that the FDA has'nt made an official ruling on the use of Ecig vapor devices all i can say is this , whatever it takes to consume 1 less tobacco cigarette a day is better then nothing at all . and thats my professional opinion
however he did question me on the nic level , and actually asked to see the device i was using .

Nah, Doc has many outlets to get this info, husbands finding ways to deter nagging wife- priceless. :)

Had a heart attack in April 2012 and had a stent put in. Four months later, on the doctors' advice, I had a 4x bypass. I quit smoking and started vaping about 6 weeks before the bypass and have not had an analog since. My cardiologist is very supportive. He says, "anything but smoking." :2cool: JD

My Doctor recommended e cigarettes to me. I had tried them before... briefly... back in the bad old cartridge days, but gave them another shot after talking to a friend who used them currently. Unfortunately, as soon as I switched to vaping he started in on reducing nicotine and quitting vaping. I have cut back from 18 mg to 12 mg, but that whole quitting vaping thing.... I don't know if that will ever happen.

My GP doesn't support vaping as it's "concentrated nicotine". I didn't bother trying to have a dialog after I told him you get less nicotine than with a cig for the same time "smoked". He just wouldn't listen. My psychiatrist thinks it's great and asked to see mine. Both are Kaiser doctors.

    What's a Kaiser doc?
