I was sitting here working at home and was overcome by a plastic/burning smell and eventually tracked the smell to my charger. It was charging 4 batteries and when I took the batteries out one of the charging indicators was still blinking despite there being no battery in it. It wasn't especially warm, but the smell was strong. It's still strong even though the thing has been unplugged.

Needless to say, time to buy a new charger.

Nitecore chargers are popular and inexpensive. Many use them with no issue, but it isn't hard to find many others that have had problems with them. If you don't trust the brand anymore, maybe look at the Xtar brand. Slightly more expensive, but considered to be better quality. I really like my Xtar and will stick with them in the future. Orbtronic is a trusted source for batteries and chargers. They have Nitecore and Xtar models. Also a US company so shipping is quick if you're in the States.

My i2 can get fairly warm while charging 2 at a time. I make sure to keep it standing upright and not laying down which seems to help immensely. I've been using mine for about a year without any issues, plus I like that it generally finishes charging two batteries before I can drain one (even the 26650s) so I'm never without which allows me to have a smaller battery rotation. (I settled on the i2 instead of the i4 because I had heard the i4 charges slower charging when fully loaded, dunno if this is/was actually true but I do know I've never had a problem waiting for my batteries to charge.)

"like" for sticking around during charging and for not chancing it.

That's one of the reasons I prefer single bay chargers than dual or more.

Thanks everyone. I bought This Charger from Amazon .. it's prime so it should be here in no time. Features seem cool, we'll see how it goes. Nitecore left a bad taste in my mouth.

In the meantime I have my 1 port "work charger". I'll make due. I swear I can still smell that smell even though I'm 30 miles away at the office.
