Anyone ever set off a smoke detector with their vapor?

I am always especially careful to not let any vapor get near one because I live in a dorm and if one goes off the whole building evacuates and police and fire fighters come and they will probably ban e cigs if that happens. the question is.. am i being paranoid or should i actually be careful not to vape near a smoke detector?

I've vaped in a hospital bathroom without any issues. Haven't made any alarms go off but haven't tried to blow vapor into one either. There's no smoke so I don't think one would go off anyways. I'm sure someone will be in soon to better clarify for ya.

I sit right under one and the ciggs would....vaper doesnt. Theres little to no particulate matter in vaper. vape away.

The reason I am concerned is that i am a filmmaker and I have used smoke machines burning pure PG on a couple sets and they always and i mean always set off the smoke detectors. I even used one outdoors and there was a set of airlocked double doors near the set. By airlocked i mean a set of doors, then a small vestibule and then two more doors. and the smoke detectors went off inside when someone went inside and it was more than 50 ft from the doors.

I wouldnt think its producing the volume of vapor the smoke machines are.

If you're vaping like a smoke machine, then I'm jealous. Pics or it didn't happen.

Seriously though, I take really really hot showers during the winter, and the bathroom gets so that you have to swim to get to the door. I -have- set off the smoke alarms with that before, but the fog in the bathroom was super thick.

If it weren't 2AM with everyone sleeping, I'd go vape into my smoke alarm for a few minutes...but it is, and I can't.

I wouldn't say you were being paranoid though, just cautious. It's probably not a bad idea to just blow it toward the other corner of the room. Unless it's super humid, the vapor dissipates within a few seconds anyhow.

i would estimate that there are 75-80 smoke detectors on each floor of my dorm. no lie. like every 5 feet. so that is why i am super cautious.

If you don't exhale the vapor right away and hold it is for a second or two, you wont exhale much vapor. Try it and you'll see! Also, just blow it toward your feet if your that nervous about it but honestly...i wouldn't worry about it!

OR! You could go into someone else's dorm and try it, and then when you get rushed out in the wave of people, slink off into another building.

Also, I'm vaping in my hotel room right under the smoke detector and it's all good...and my pv produces alot of vapor. Water vapor falls to the ground, you can even see it fall and actual smoke rises.

I was vaping once while staying right below the smoke detector in my home and got the alarm. Didn't repeat this experiment.

I have blown vapor directly into my home smoke alarms and they didn't go off. But that's not to say that none ever will. Different brands of smoke detectors use different technologies.

I've vaped in many places with smoke detectors. Never, ever had a problem. If you are so worried. Simply inhale, hold it in for an extra 2-3 seconds and exhale towards the floor. Worse comes to worse, have the fog machine handy, try vaping and in the off chance it does activate the alarm, turn on the fog machine

Yes, it can set a fire alarm off. BUT unless you are vaping a lot of vapor toward the detector its not likely to go off. Not much different then smoking a cigarette in that reguard. I've smoked in a lot of hotel rooms in past years all with smoke detectors and I've never set an alarm off. Doesn't mean it cant happen, but doesn't mean its automatically going to either. Caution in vaping in your dorm room is a good thing if you don't wish to call attention to your vaping.

I've never set my smoke detector off with my e-cig, just my cooking on a regular basis lol....

Then again, never set one off with smoking either...

In one week in a motel I did have the smoke detector go off one time while vaping. Most of the time I had a fan going and that one time I didn't. So it can happen..... I would think any kind of small fan keeping the air stirred around would be more than sufficient. Especially since having it go off involves a fire drill.....

Well i was curious after reading this thread. Got up and stood on chair and almost broke my old neck as the chair at the computer swivels .
Anyhow i took some good puffs without any inhale and blew right at the smoke alarm nothing , i tried this 3 times nothing. It does work as once in a while when cooking it goes off if something spills like cheese from a pizza.
As a note we have the carbon alarm also and i could not make it go off.
Im sure there all different though.

I know a group of vapers had a meetup at some business and they vaped so much the alarm went off, but I don't know how many people were vaping
