well to make one like a box mod or any other casing (simpler):
Materials needed:
USB cord
casing of your choice (pill bottle, battery casing, or any seal-able casing)
battery connector
tactile (momentary) switch
500Ω+/- resistor (optional)
LED (optional)
hot glue, epoxy, crazy glue or adhesive of your choice
soldering iron and solder
1) make holes in your casing to barely fit the battery connector, the usb cord and the button for the switch (optional: hole for LED if not a see through type case)
2) cut the opposite tip from that which plugs into the usb port. there will be 4 wires inside it red, black, green, white (usually) you will want to cut down the green and white wires as they will not be used. cut some of the red wire off and strip bot ends of the cut off red wire the end of the red wire attached to the cord and the end of the black wire.
3) depending on whether you want 3.7v an/or a LED:

  • a) 5v w/o LED - solder the cut red wire to the center part of the connector, other end to the switch. solder the other red wire to the other end of the switch, and the black wire to the outside of the connector.
    b) 5v w/ LED - same as above with the addition of soldering 500Ω+/- resistor to the side of switch that goes to the center pole of the connector other end of resistor to LED, other end of LED to outside of connector
    c) 3.7v w/ LED - solder cut red wire to center part of the connector, other end to the LED, other end of LED to resistor, other end of resistor to switch other side of switch to USB cord - black wire to outside of connector
    d) 3.7v w/o LED - solder cut red wire to center part of connector, other end of wire to resistor, other end of resistor to switch, other end of switch to usb cord red wire, black wire to outer part of connector
4) glue assembly where they need to go in case and close case.

if u want 1 that still looks like a cig:
materials needed:
USB cord
old batt
soldering iron, connector and crimpers etc (some way to make a connection)
electrical tape or similar insulating substance
500Ω+/- resistor(s) optional depending on preference
C clamp or large vise (to re-press connection)

1) take an atty and remove the connector gently (don't break the wires)
2) pop off the ash cap and take something that fits in the tube to push the rest of the battery assembly out through the end that you pulled the connector out of (don't worry it's safe enough) make sure u also push the button down so it goes through and out the tube as well to keep it in tact.
3) mark which wires go to the positive (+) side and which go to the negative (-) side then clip out the battery cell
4) depending if you want a 5v or the equivalent of a 3.7v:

  • a) for a 5V you either remove the LED or get a couple 500Ω+/- resistors and add them to the positive ends leading to the LED (removing the LED is the easier option as no resistor would be needed)
    b) get a 500Ω+/- resistor. and solder it to where the positive terminal was and use electrical tape or similar insulator so it can't touch the casing.
5) for cosmetic reasons, put a hole in the ash cap about the size of a usb cable
6) take a USB cord of your choice and remove the opposite end from where u'll plug it in. there will be 4 wires inside it red, black, green, white (usually) you will want to cut down the green and white wires as they will not be used. thread the cable through the ash cap and through the casing consistent with how it will go back together.
7) connect (solder-preferred, crimp, whatever) the black wire to negative end. and the red wire to positive end use electrical tape or other insulator
8) reassemble (you will need a C clamp or a big vise to press the connector back into place)

hope that helps :)
