Ok, I'm new to vaping and ordered a kit which arrived this past Wed. Two 1100mAh eGo-T batteries, two CE-4 clearomizers and a charger. I filled the tanks, let them sit, and tried them out, but the juice I got with it (spearmint) tasted "soapy" to me.

I did some reading and it was suggested that sometimes clearomizers are shipped with some kind of antibacterial stuff on them, and some said they usually clean brand new clearomizers before using. After watching a few YouTube vidoes on how to do it, the method that most used was to attach the clearomizer to the battery, and gently wiggle and pull the tank to separate it from the base and access the atomizer and wicks. I gave it a try last Friday morning...

I did one and it seemed to work all right. The second one, however, was a disaster. The end of my brand new battery pulled out breaking the wires and sending the button flying (see pictures below).

Have any of you had this happen? Should it have happened? Did I screw up by trying to clean the clearomizer this way? I've emailed the vendor I got the kit from, but haven't heard back from him yet. I'd like a replacement battery if this isn't normal, but don't want to get a freebie for something IF it was clearly my fault. I was pulling on it, but I wasn't pulling all that hard. No pliers or anything else was used. Just fingers.

Did I screw up or was the battery defective? Any comments or suggestions?

The ego style batteries, especially the 'Long' ones can come apart like that if you have them in a back pocket and sit on them.
That would be 'Your Fault'.

The nose piece on the eGo should be firmly pressed in to prevent it coming out if there were an internal cell failure.
It should be harder to remove than the other end. Although they don't go bang often, you would never want the nose to pop first.

If you pulled on a tank and the nose came out (unless you are a professional weightlifter) I would say the battery was defective and not safe to use with a loose nose. Let your vendor know that you found an unsafe ego and would like a replacement.

Thanks for the reply. I'm definitely not a weight lifter, or anything close to it, and I never put it in my pocket or even took it out of the house (it was only 2 days old). Like I said, I was pulling on it, but not hard enough to do that IMHO but like I said, I'm new to vaping and don't know how strong it should have been.

I emailed the vendor late Friday morning, and I haven't heard back from him yet. I'm going to assume the best and assume he's out of town for the weekend or something. I guess I always assume the best about people.

With the vision rebuildable clearos, where the entire bottom screws off and the inside post pulls out with wick/atty assembly attached, I don't know why anyone would pull a clearo apart like this anyway?

If the wicks/atty aren't rebuildable, then I would just rinse the thing out from the top.

Less is more.

Your batttery shouldn't come apart that easy, but again, it's really not meant to be used as forceps. :)

I'm not agreeing with with Rocket on this one. The eGo is not a tool to be used to pull apart cartos. You got lucky on the first one, but probably loosened the bond on the eGo in the process.

If you want to take clearo's apart, buy the ones that are made to do so. There are many.

No, I agree with you (now). I didn't even know about the CE-5 ones that unscrew until after this happened. Like I said, I have only been vaping for a few days and saw some YouTube videos that showed this method of cleaning. We live, we learn.

On a positive note, I heard from the vendor last night, and he's being terrific about it. He's sending out a new, replacement battery because "we've all been there". Nice guy and a great vendor. Big props to Steve at BetterVapes.com for coming through for me in a pinch.
