Anyone here smoke a few cigarettes a day while vaping before switching over?

I can't seem to stay away if I have a couple drinks or more.

I hear you. That can be tough. I keep some higher nic juice around for just that reason. Throw that on a rda and you don't want more nicotine ime/imo. It's all about finding the setup that works for you in each situation.

Haven't had a cig in over a year, but when I first started vaping it took a couple of months until I was down to just 2 smokes first thing in the morning. They were the ones I just couldn't seem to give up. I use 18mg Extreme Ice almost exclusively but I got some 24mg Wintergreen to have in the morning. And when I had the urge to find a smoke, I'd hit that instead. Took about 2 weeks, and now that bottle just sits on the shelf.

At first it was tough, mostly because of the juice i got was just horrible.. I had given it up vapeing completely until i met a friend who was vapeing one day and the smell of maple made me ask him what he was vaping, on thing led to another and he give me a puff of it and I instantly liked it.. It was online purchase only so i made an order and dont even think about a cig anymore.. The rite juice is what did it for me...

I had about half a pack of analogs when I took my first vape over three years ago. Not being one to waste anything, I finished that pack over the next 3-4 days, then didn't smoke one for about 4 months. Then, on a whim I smoked one and was surprised how much I enjoyed it. Since then, I've averaged about 2 a month, which I enjoy, but I find my vape much more satisfying. I never told myself I'd never smoke another analog which I think made it much easier to make the transition to vaping.

Hi, I'm new here, started vaping about 1 month ago, surprised myself on the first day, that i have no need for analog, i was using 24 mg nic, now I'm down to 18 mg. Tried a analog about a week after I started vaping, didn't turn me on at all. Didn't touch one since. My wife especially is happy about the whole thing. BTW I've been a packet or two per day smoker for 30 years.

I smoked 2-3 pad. smoker for about 40 years. when I started vaping, for the "hard" first thing in the morning one, I delayed 10 min, then 30 min, etc until my first cig was in the afternoon. basically, I would vape for a while if I wanted a cig. then if I still wanted the cig I had it, but usually only smoked 1/2 of it at a time.
after a few months, my first cig was right before bed.
I still have 2 cigs a day, right before bed. I have maintained that for 3 years without going over. I never think about a cig until it is about bedtime. other people smoking doesn't bother me or make me want one. I don't drink much, but when I do I am good vaping.
so, why do I still have those 2 cigs a day? cause I'm old and I want to! :p

<edit> let me say that in my younger, heavier drinking days it might have been harder for me to not smoke while drinking.......

I purposely made the decision to give myself a 'cutoff date'. I ordered a bunch of V2s, some flavour cartos, and when they finally arrived, I let myself just run out of smokes.

To add some excitement, I also did it on a weekend that I was without a car. Since I live about 12 miles from anything, I guaranteed that I wasn't going to just make a 'simple walk' down to a shop to pick up any more;)

Frankly, since I started vaping, I haven't had a smoke...and very few urges (unless it is one of THOSE days).

Yeah I have tried that. I think I just don't care when I get a good buzz going. I feel like whatever I'm always vaping I'm doing a good job, what's a couple smokes. It's the one time I can't shake having a smoke.

I hear ya. Drinking and vaping just doesn't go as well together as drinking and smoking. Having said that I have vaped while having a cocktail or two and It does "scratch the itch" not as satisfying as a cig but satisfying enough to not need to smoke. I think my nicotine addiction was based more on ritual. I associated smoking with certain times/circumstances so I still tend to go outside and vape. I vape while driving and I vape after meals. That's just what works for me.

For slightly over a year and changing during that time period, I went up and down between 2 or 3 a day and 5 or 6 a day while vaping in the main. The main reason was attempts to soften detoxing. My vaping nic levels also went up and down. As for whether or not I still do, well, that's a tuff one. I DO NOT tell myself "I will never smoke again" as that is the quickest way for me to do exactly that due to mental obsession with it. Even today I tell myself "If you smoke, especially when dealing with high-stress, don't beat yourself up about it and just get back on track when things settle down." Additionally, I substitute a high nic Eroll cigalike reserved only for when I would normally smoke. So far, that's working to keep me away from smoking.

Had a miserable time switching. Did both for several months but then still smoked a little over/under 10 cigarettes a day for ten weeks after my quit date. It wasn’t until I bumped up to 24mg that I was finally able to go to vaping only. It was an overdose of nic but it’s what got me over the hump. A month later I dropped back down and have been dropping ever since. Now at 3mg. I’m not “making” myself lower the nic, it’s a natural progression. Even 3mg seems to be too much and often vape 0mg. Some people quit using 6mg, others need 36mg. Highly individualized. Lucky for us, there is no wrong way to switch.

Also, it's never a bad idea to keep a higher nic around for the more difficult times and a lower nic at night so you can go to sleep.

For the first week and a half of so of vaping I would smoke 0-3 a day then my pack ran out and I didn't buy another one. Also I was smoking less of the cigarettes, putting them out half finished. Its been around 2 weeks since I've had a cigarette but I still want one sometimes. The morning cigarette was originally the hardest to give up, but now I don't really crave them in the morning at all but later on in the day I sometimes do. If I had a pack I don't know that I wouldn't smoke it, so I just have kept myself from buying any, made easier since only two places in town sell the kind I like.
