No facebook here either, nor any other social network site. I logged under a false name to message people from my old schools (with a PM using my real name). Now it has done its job, I'll probably never use that account again.
Besides, what happened to good old fashioned radio communications? With Facebork you get...a website. Whoo hoo. With ham radio you get to set up your very own antenna and radio, do experiments, talk to people in far away places (depending on propogation, antenna, band etc) send them pictures using just the airwaves, experiment with satellites and even talk to the space station!! You can even play with and send digital data or talk to others using digital to get further on fewer watts and you did it all with your radio equipment!!!
tribalmasters, are you a ham (amateur radio operator) too? I have had a lot of fun and have met a lot of nice people worldwide on the radio.
Doing great. Even after over a year in business we are making changes and testing new stuff. I figure by the time we get everything perfect the FDA will shut us downfacebook sux
I, like MAC, had a myspace to promote my old karaoke company.
Perfect for finding strangers to add who live in your area for free advertising and zeroing in on zipcodes. Also great for spamming the nation for mass marketing. I use it now to promote my e-cig business. Totally wicked has one too for the same reason.
I heard facebook was going to charge $3 a month..
hows that kiosk coming along?
I'm studying for my licence but had great fun and good company with just my shortwave SSB receiver! With that little thing I can hear North America and Europe, not bad for a tiny antenna attached to the top of it(well maybe it is but its a good start hehe) The local hams have got both me and my friend very interested! I've played with receiving SSTV and PSK31 but haven't been able to listen to anything above 10 meters yet! Borrowed an Icom transceiver to play with and am going to collect a mast some time this month
One of the hams showed me his Icom IC7000, it was so easy to use, I think it'll be used gear first though for me hehe, its a bit expensive
From what I've heard on my radio it seems a great hobby to get into!! Can't wait to get on the air!!!
Looks like the general consensus is that many people here don't use fb for the same reasons as methough maybe I should open a business account. I'm glad I'm not alone... ham radio looks interesting...
Ham radio is a great hobby, but the internet is slowly killing it.
do you have your license?
and if you do, did you get your cert before or after they nixed morse code from it lol
Gasp, I have been a ham (Advanced Class) for 18 years. I had to learn and pass the code test, both the 5 wpm and the 13 wpm.
Im not on facebook never had a drivers license and dont have cable or a landline! I do know every biking/hiking trail around my city though![]()
I got my huge mast!! All I need now is a good ground plane!! This antenna even has a whip right at the top
Got a PL259 connector today to attach to it and now have the mic but won't be touching that until I get my licence!!
I'm gonna plug her in and hope for the best!! Since the antenna is a disused one a friendly ham donated I'm not really sure what band the antenna is designed for, it did come with an instruction manual though and should be enough to get started with before I start experimenting with dipolesTribalmasters, what kind of antenna is it, and what band(s) are you planning on using it on? It sounds like you got a vertical "stick" antenna.
