at the moment, global death rate for the confirmed covid cases with an outcome is 18%+ (was 20% few days ago). Is it not enough to convince you?

No.
Kentucky death rate April 29

Carona deaths: 224
Confirmed cases: 4375
Death rate: 0.0512
About 1/2 of 1 percent

And if numbers out of California are are correct the actual number of cases may well be far larger with most being asymptomatic or "flu like". Dr Rirx has instructed those completing death certificates to re-examine them and, in essence, pad the numbers. Add to that the global death rate, in my not very humble opinion, is not relevant to me, I live and will be medically treated, if required, in Kentucky.

So I look at the numerator and denominator for ole KY and I have a tendency to believe that we have been sold a statistical load of unmentionable substances.

Death rate is counted only for the cases with the outcome, no the total cases.

I do not understand. To me. the death rate for the virus is the number of Corona deaths divided by the number of case of Corona. I don't claim to be a even an amateur statistician, tell me where I have gone wrong.

*100 and you get the % rate. That's how it is counted.

I think I am doomed to misunderstanding. I guess the death rate in Kentucky is 5.12 %, which is far better than global at 18%. That is one reason why I am unconcerned, from a personal safety standpoint, about the death rate globally. If infected and symptomatic, I will not be treated anywhere but the USA in a modern medical center. My medical care is better than the vast majority of the globe.

By the way, I do now understand the percentage this.

Back to why I am personally unconcerned, your original question. Essentially, it is because I am not confined to a nursing home. Although I am elderly (75) with two underlying health conditions, one of which is controlled and the other of which is quasi-manageable but will ultimately get me. I don't get flu shots but don't get the flu, while not perfect, it indicates to me that my immune system functions rather well. I am fully engaged mentally and physically in the world (even given my mathematical challenges). I think my odds are pretty good that if I show symptoms, I will emerge with flu-like symptoms. Right/wrong, I let you know in a year, maybe.

Somewhere out there
Carona deaths: 224
Confirmed cases: 4375
Death rate: 0.0512
About 1/2 of 1 percent

Your math was ok until you converted to percent. 0.0512 rate is 5.12 percent.

(Sorry, I see you figured it out while I was posting)

It only about took an hour and the, now exhausted, patience of the dreamvaper.

I don't think there is a global death which is accurate. You don't get to count all the deaths before testing began, deaths where the person may have a confounding condition which was actually the cause.

Of course I will got to the ER if my O2 stats drop, I don't have a machine they are hard to get but my mom is sending me one. Should arrive today. Even with my 15 months pneumonia I have never gone below 97 so that might cause me to go get help faster.

2.2 Million American Deaths from Covid-19?

How lethal is Covid-19 REALLY? Why massive fatality rates from Italy are MISLEADING

Why the world’s highest coronavirus death rate is in Europe’s capital - The Boston Globe

COVID-19: Data - NYC Health "Over 5k people in the count with NO positive test just "we think they had it."

Come on now.

This virus's lethality seems to depend on who is doing the counting and the WHO is LOVING places like Belgium who assume all folks in nursing homes have died from COVID. They don't even BOTHER to remove the "normal" daily amount because I am sad to have to report nursing homes are for ill people may of whom can die from like, their intake diagnosis.

I could continue quoting articles but I just don't want to do it. It's a waste of time and it's shameful when you consider how and why countries top the charts. 1/3 (almost) of NY "death rate cases" are unconfirmed yet they tell us to be terrified. It is disgusting.

Again, getting to herd immunity is not easy and it can be painful. However, I do believe it to be an overall good. I am not changing my stance on that. You can disagree and/or find it funny or whatever you want. Fine with me. Cling to your false statistics and ignorance is bliss, I guess.

I am again going to point out-- I didn't catch this virus from being unreasonable. I think reasonable precautions are fine. I caught it from a situation where there were not enough resources and half measures caused problems.

I do genuinely think death rates are inflated and mass hysteria is not justified and plenty of other folks appear to rationally believe this as well. What interests me the most is the asymptomatic cases, etc. I will be into finding out when we all get our antibody tests although when the politicians will allow a full release I have no clue.

Also HIV is NEVER going to allow for a vaccine. The reverse transcription issues makes it completely impossible, possibly forever or until genetics gets more sophisticated but they've been trying for what, 40 years?

I believe the coronavirus, the jury may still be out on why and how you can or cannot be reinfected, but the jury is still out. If there were a vaccine available I would get it mostly likely even if I recovered nicely just in case my response were not robust enough all though I feel crappy still so I think it is.

Can you catch Covid-19 twice?

But from the sounds of things where immunity is limited and like the flu you need yearly protection not JUST because of viral mutation but also because overall immunity drops, yes I would get an immunization each year and so should everyone.

However, I still think calling this a pandemic is a bit rich and I really hope rising temperatures cause it to recede although frankly, we still need herd immunity or a vaccine. Really.

I am in favor of getting it over with, you are all welcome to your opinions and to feel I am misguided.

Two things:

First, we know that asymptomatic cases outnumber symptomatic ones. We’re not sure by how much but most estimates suggest it’s a high ratio. So it’s very likely that people here and in similar communities report no symptoms amongst them but that some have in fact been exposed to the virus.

Second: the availability of reliable testing is spotty at best. Some urban areas have ready access to them, but for the most part the nation is lacking the millions of tests necessary to determine who does and who doesn’t have the virus.

Carry on.
Even in urban areas the testing is less than needed to track a outbreak. Some places it’s non existent and there could be an outbreak occurring and we’d never know.

I don't think I will place money on it and I am quite sure that I will avoid taking it, if possible while remaining relatively free.

Reckless. It may not kill you but you can get it, be completely asymptomatic and give it to someone else who it then kills.

Danger, let us cower while the omniscient government makes sure we are safe.

The government has nothing to do with it and frankly, your attempt to mischaracterize it like that represents the exact kind of dangerous, knee-jerk attitude that gets people killed.
