Hello. I am trying to figure this out. How do I know that the foam in the end of a cart is not burning? I am worried that I am replacing toxic cig smoke with toxic burning foam? Is this possible? When people complain of the burnt taste, is anythign actually burning? Sorry if the question is dumb, please forgive.

If the filler actually "burns" it will melt and be 'crusty' on the top. Chances are your atty will not get hot enough for this to happen (especially if you keep it properly wetted. The burnt taste that most experience with the filling is the occasional stray strand that gets up under the bridge and burns on the coil. This can be avoided by inspecting your cart before you stick it on the atty to make sure there are no 'wild hairs'. To reduce this, always make sure you push your carts strait on and pull them strait off. NEVER twist the cart when it is on the atty. That will cause the fibers to get tangled in the bridge.

As far as the danger...I don't think vaping a fiber on very rare occasions even comes close to inhaling combusted gasses all day/everyday.

With cartomizers, where the two are built into one unit, the heating coil can definitely burn the batting. From what I've read here it seems to be less of an issue with the traditional two-piece atomizer/cartridge setup. The solution to prevent this issue (with cartomizers) is to keep the batting material wet with e-liquid, and stop using the carto when vapor production drops off. Once the cart is re-filled or topped off, it should be okay to use again. As a precaution, if I do get the "burnt taste," I don't suck it into my lungs (I always draw into the mouth then inhale with my e-cig).

Someone with more experience then me will drop by soon, I'm anxiously awaiting my first 910 atty and carts in the mail. :D I've been using cartomizers for about a month or so now.

Edit: highping is one of those more experienced users I mentioned above. Gotta love an active forum!
