A:
How long is the average life of these bad boys if charged say, twice a day under "normal" vaping sessions?

B:
Edit to ask: Whats the "Shelf life" also? IE.., if I buy 4 and store them, will they be junk in 2-4years?

A: as far as I've seen nobody has specifically compiled and compared that data. Expect average for a Lithium cell... 300 cycles or less.

B: Always buy batteries when you need them. Storing reactive substances and corrosive metals always has the affect of degradation. So yes... junk in 2 to 4.

If they are being discharged and recharged twice a day, I'm guessing that is going to be under heavy load with high discharge rates. This is hard on batteries, and they'll probably lose a lot of their capacity after 3-4 months use, possibly less. For example, the specs of Samsung INR-18650-20R (22A max discharge rate, don't have the VTC5 ones right now) state that they lose 40% of their capacity after 250 cycles at the maximum continuous discharge rate at 25 degrees c.

As they lose capacity, you will notice they take less time to recharge and last a shorter time before the voltage drops too low to vape well. They don't just suddenly "fail" but get weaker and at that point you'll probably just decide it's not worth using them any more and get new ones.

Shelf life varies depending on the temperature and charge level they are stored at. High temperatures are bad, and storing them fully charged over long periods is bad. As lithium batteries age they lose capacity - but factors like temperature or storing them fully charged will increase the rate of this capacity loss. Battery University article every advanced vaper should read.

From what I've read, most recommendations are that even if never used, about 5 years is about their maximum useful life. I do have older things like a camcorder which uses lithium batteries, hasn't been used much and is over 5 years old and it still works OK, although no doubt the battery is nowhere near the capacity it was.

Just got my 2 VCT5's from them today. Look legit to me. Negative nice and flat, not raised. Clean wrap seam. Look just like my other Sonys.

That is good to hear, I am hoping they will be back in stock soon. Anyone order from them previously and have any idea about re-stocking time?

I don't know if I am the only one who noticed this, but on the BJ website it is listing the "VTC5" batteries as 'discontinued'.......the plot thickens.....

I'll bet that Xtar is going to put their own branded wrappers on the next batch of these Sony batteries. It takes time to ramp this labeling up. Kinda what happened to the Sanyo Enelops when Panasonic bought them out. Just a theory.

I've read somewhere that they should be getting shipment on vtc5 first week of October. They're are not going to rewrap them just put on that hologram sticker like they used to

That is the exact same thing that I have heard from other forums. I did just order 2 25r's and 2xvtc4's just to be safe though. If these come through on the 2nd I will be ordering another 2 of them or so.

I ordered 4 yesterday and they sent me an email saying they are discontinued.

Thank you for placing an order with Battery Junction; we appreciate your business. We regret to inform you that the XTAR-SONY-VTC5-18650-2600B-FLAT and XTAR-SONY-VTC4-18650-2100B-FLAT have been discontinued by the manufacturer and we no longer have these in stock. However; we do have a purchase order in with the Manufacturer for the XTAR-SAMSUNG-INR18650-25R- 2500mAH - 20amp
as a replacement. We expect to have the XTAR-SAMSUNG-INR18650 batteries in stock in 2-3 weeks. Please contact us at your earliest convenience and let us know how you would like to proceed with your order.
We appreciate your patience and apologize for any inconvenience we may have caused.

you think that's high Vapor Range wants 24.95 each, but they have them as of today
Or take a chance on eBay. One vct5 for up to $50.00. Sad thing is that some people will pay it. I would think that another reputable company would be scrambling to come up with a good continuous 30 amp to get this market share.
