Perfume should be banned in public, IMHO.

yeah my mom was allergic to just about everything out, and now with my sisters breathing problems she can't be around it, so I just never got in the habit of them. I think I may still have a bottle from about 5 years ago. lol

Gives me a raging headache. Especially these body sprays that the guys use now. Just horrible. You shouldn't smell someone's perfume/cologne/whatever unless you're close enough to be having sex with them at the time. :D

In high school I kicked a girl out of my car for her assault on my senses. Was my little sisters friend. She got in the car, I started choking and my eyes were burning and was like "WTF is that smell? You know perfume has a tiny spray nozzle not a fire hose attachment for a reason right? one spritz not the whole bottle! Get out"

I think some of the problem is people don't realize the problems they cause others with that. I went into a place of business to pay a bill one day, and I may not have the same allergy problems my mother did, but my asthma is still a problem with some sprays like that. Anyways this guy had something on that within a minute had sent me into an asthma attack. I didn't have an inhaler with me as I usually don't need one. I had to drive home like that, thank god it was only about 2 miles.

That night they had to bring a delivery to the house, they where already told not to send that guy because it would have put my sister into the hospital. One of the guys they did send tho, had been in the truck with that guy a good part of the day and enough of it had transferred to him that in just him stepping into the house my sister had to have he leave.

Nancy even though they don't realize that other people could have issues with it, I still don't understand why they feel the need to go through 1/2 a bottle of cologne/perfume/body spray in one use.
Are they trying to overpower every other smell in a city block?
Cover up the fact that they haven't had a shower in the last 6 months?
Ward off predators?
Dislike all people and want to keep them away?
Have they burned out their ability to smell from previous overuse?

It's just ridiculous.

I agree completely. This weekend at the radio station I couldn't use the studio phone because one of the women who used the studio saturday morning had so much perfume on that it had coated the handset on the phone. Even after washing it, I still got a headache anytime I got it near my face. I had to go out to the break room anytime the phone ring and answer it there.

At my weekday job I was on the hiring committee for a position in my department. I can tell you that two different applicants were nixed solely because of the amount of perfume/cologne they wore to the interview. It amazes me how clueless people are about that sort of thing!

I think the wearer becomes desensitized to the same smell and lavishes on more and more because they can no longer smell it. I know I was guilty of that in the past....now I have the resident nose (AKA....DH) do the sniff test after just two quick spritzes behind each ear. Mine is a very light musk *designed for teens I think* but every time I put it on random men come as close as they dare and sniff me and drool over it! LOL..... I don't wear it often, but I have had tons of compliments on it. DH has problems with perfumes and once left a relatives funeral when his sister sat down beside him because hers was too strong!

Scents also are different on each individual. I once poured a VERY expensive bottle of DH's cologne down the drain because, on him, it smelled just like bug spray even though he barely put any on. It smelled heavenly on the car dealer that I first sniffed though!

Another thing that really gets to me with scents, is soaps. When I go to the store to get laundry soap they always put the stuff free of all the perfumes in the center of the isle. I feel like grabbing one of the managers, slapping them to get their full attention. Then asking them who's bright idea it was to put the stuff for people who can't handle the perfumes in the middle of all the perfumes , I get a headache just going into that isle.

I never even thought about it that way! Maybe it should be brought to their attention. I haven't been down a laundry aisle in ages... I have materials sent to my house & make my own liquid detergent. And I can't go anywhere near the candles either, I have to send someone else if I want something. I can handle them one at a time, but too many strong scents is just total overload.
My doctors office has signs that I love telling people no perfumed anything is to be worn in his offices due to many people having sensitivities to such things. I would love to put the same signs up at work.

I hope not all stores as as bad as my local one is for this, but the candles are located on the same isle as the soap, making it a nightmare for someone with allergies or breathing problems.

My main grocery store does, I just avoid it. The wally world across town keeps them separated (more aisles to avoid lol) one for detergent, one for air-fresheners/and those brands of scented candles, then another one for the decorative/scented candles.

When I need to get anything from that isle I stand at the end and peer down the isle to spot what it is I need (luckily my eyes are 20/20) and when I've spotted it I take a deep breath, speed down the isle, grab my stuff without stopping and exit the other end before I take a breath.

And the scented candle displays are the worst too! Instant migrane!
