Approving Social Group Join Requests?

I have a notification for someone wants to be a member of my group, and it doesn't go away.

Am i supposed to do something about it?

If you have your social group set up so that applicants have to be approved, then you have to approve or deny them.

Are you saying you have approved/disapproved them and it's still there?

It is not obvious to me how to approve or disapprove people. But then it never has been.

I guess that's why the others have wandered off?

At the bottom of your social group page there is a link called something like "Pending & Invited Members. Use the link to accept or deny join requests.
