I've been evangelizing e-cigs like a .... to friends and acquaintances since getting my first e-cig about 6 weeks ago. When people ask for info and suggestions, I tend to recommend kits with cartomizers for noobs because they're so darn easy (and that's how I started). As I visit sites to gather links to share with people, I'm noticing more and more that starter kits with cartomizers are disappearing, and are getting replaced by tanks.

So my question for you, dear vapers, is this: are cartomizers going away? If so, what's the reason behind it? I use both 510 tanks and cartomizers, and think they're both swell, but the cartos have the distinct advantage of hot-swapability. You can switch back and forth between flavors much more easily with them (unless you buy a handful of tank atomizers, I suppose).

Are vapers just generally not thrilled with cartos, or is there some other reason behind the ongoing disappearance of carto-based starter kits?

Or is my premise flawed?

New vaporer here (about six weeks) and the only thing that kept me from going back to smoke is a large cartomizer (holds 3ml). I couldn't stand the hassle of the constant cleaning and tinkering with the couple of systems I got that used atomizers. Thanks to these forums, I found a device that works all day with one one cartomizer and one battery. I can just drop it in my pocket and carry it around all day with no worries. Can't figure out why anyone would recommend any other type of device to a new person looking to make the switch. The switch needs to be quick and easy for a person who hasn't already set their mind on quitting smoking.

There is no disappearance of carto based starter kits. Ecigs that are designed as 2-pieces like KR808D-1 and Vapor4Life.com are widely available as are the less popular 2-piece models from rebranders and ripoff rebranders.

But cartos are so popular that sometimes a kit like the Riva 510 cartomizer kit from Liberty-Flights is out of stock just because they sold out of blank cartos.

The most popular models for cartos are the ones with the most support from manufacturers of new kinds of blank cartos.

those dual-coil cartos are effectively LR, aren't they? is that a big danger to use on a standard 510 battery? to those who are digging the dual-coils: are you using them on an eGo battery?

I totally agree that cartomizers are the best thing for newbies. That's what prompted this thread in the first place -- I was checking some of the sites I've ordered from in the past for cart-based 510 starter kits to recommend to a potential new vaper, and was coming up with tanks and atomizers.

I usually suck smokers into the cult of vapor with the cartomizers. I get them for $2 a pop from a local retailer and always keep them on hand for when someone wants to try out the e-ciggs, or I meet someone else who uses Blu's and isn't satisfied with the old-style atty/cart combo. Fully agree on the hot swap aspect of them too, but I generally only use them if I'm going to be out and about and won't really have time to stop, take it apart, saturate the wicking material, etc... I just load up a couple cartomizers and go. :)

My concern is that cartomizers will take over to the extent that atomizers will go away.
Drippers, be concerned.

If I have to use a cartomizer, well, I don't know that I can handle that.
But I have 25 standard 510 atomizers left, and at the rate I use them, I figure they will last me for 15 years at least.

So I'm not worried, but I think other drippers should be.
