I had no intentions of quitting until my girlfriend got me an e-go setup for my last birthday. I smoked and vaped for about a week and then when my carton of smokes ran out I figured what the hell. The first few weeks were easier than cold turkey but still a struggle. But I went from a pack and a half a day to none and once my smell and taste returned haven't looked back. I would be lying if I said I don't get the urge for a smoke from time to time but those pass and I have some cig flavored juice to help. Gotta admit tho, I think a good juice from a good delivery system tastes better than a smoke. We are all adults here and responsible for our own choices. If both work do both, if vaping isn't for you then don't. What we do have is the best alternative yet to slow down or quit. I battled with trying to quit for years with no success, even after almost 14 months without a smoke I went back. I don't see that happening now with vaping. It's not for us to criticize anyone. Smoker, vaper, non smoker or even the ill informed ones who make the fake coughs when they see us vaping outside.

I started vaping with the purpose in mind to quit. Actually, the day I quit, I had just bought a new pack. I smoked about five of them, and they just tasted horrible. I was so angry with myself for buying them. I threw them out, and started vaping immediately. I only had bad cravings for the first 24 hours, but I told myself that I was just not going to smoke TODAY. That seemed to work, and I think I tried my mind in a way. I knew I still had the choice to smoke or not, but I also knew that if I could just get through that initial crave, I'd be fine. I got through it, and day 2 was easier. Day 3 was easier still. By day 5 I was ready to ditch the disposable Blu and get something better. I bought my eGo that day, and haven't looked back since.

I lit my last cigarette March 20, 2014 and since then I vape exclusively.
To each his own I think as we all have different motivations for vaping.
For me it allowed me to quit, that was my initial goal and now I am hooked on tinkering with my mods, playing mad scientist in creating different flavors from pre made liquids and overall just having fun with it.

I haven't had a cig in almost 6 months, but I was a dual user for the first month I took up vaping. I cut down from a pack and a half to 6 -- count'em, 6, a day. I lighted my last cig November 14, 2013 and I don't miss them.

My roomie still smokes and thus, I'm still exposed to the second-hand smoke, including pipe smoke, which I don't mind.

I love mixing pre-mades as well. Talked to my son last night about re-building coils for me. He is a techy, gadget guy and my hands and fingers just don't work the way they used to, especially on small, detail type work.

I am right there with you on that hands and fingers thing. I am super lucky that my local B&M shop is beyond awesome and I will take my kanthal to them, they will build me 5-6 coils and that will hold me forever!
I can get lots of life from my coils by dry burning them and dipping them in water. Cuts down on rebuilding and all I have to do is re wick which even my dim witted .... can handle lol.

I really don't understand the mentality behind the thought that you must quit cold turkey or you've done nothing to benefit your health. Who does it benefit to tell a smoker who is struggling to cut down or quit that if they have one cigarette per day they may as well smoke 20? When agencies like the FDA seem to echo such nonsense, or even gives a little credence by making an issue of the vapers who haven't quit smoking, it's just so very frustrating. What a way to discourage someone!

The day I brought my first ego setup over 9 months ago I had 3/4 of a pack of cigs in my backpack. About a month later after completing and accelerated summer course of thermodynamics and killing the final I decided to pull out the pack to celebrate. Took about 2 hits and realized I much preferred my ecig. I gave the pack to some friends and have never looked back.

I just quit two weeks ago but haven't smoked yet and I'm doing alright without them. However, it is still early and I may slip.

My thinking is that if I can make 1 month then it will be easier to stop wanting one. A co-worker does both and it seems to work for him, but I'm in all the way this time.

Keep it up Clark! I've heard that the bad times come in 3's--three days, three weeks, three months. For me, I found around 10 days to be a rough patch... At three days, I was still kind of amazed that I had lasted so long without a smoke. I barely noticed three weeks--other than an itch to get some shiny gear. I wonder what three months will bring?

As I said before, I smoked when I first started vaping (I bought my starter kit when I still had a whole carton left, so I couldn't let that go to waste, could I?). For me, it was a natural thing--I just didn't like the taste or the feeling of cigarettes anymore. But I think it also helped that when I put out my last cig, that I sort of challenged myself by saying, "Let's see how long I can do this without buying another pack." I think it's that mental shift--the willpower or desire to quit--that people must have in order to quit smoking completely. Not everyone will have it--and certainly not necessarily right away. As far as my attitude toward people who smoke--I'm ambivalent. I don't hate them or find them disgusting, nor do I pity them. I was one of them not long ago. And if some people choose to dual-use, I think it's great that they are doing something that works for them and helps them save money, save their health, or both.

Years ago when I was in a smoking cessation group (using Nicorette gum) the motto was "you're a puff away from a pack a day." I found that to be true. I have friends who can smoke an occasional cigarette and never think about another one--that is NOT me. So the day I started vaping is the day I stopped smoking. I had no cigs in the house and did not go to my local drugstore where I normally bought cigs for weeks until I knew I could go there and not even notice the cigs at checkout. I think probably some people can use e-cigs along with cigs just to cut back, but I also know I am not one of those people. That said, as it turns out, I love vaping much more than I ever liked smoking, so it's a win/win for me.:vapor:

It's weird you brought this up, but I find ex-smokers to be bitter about smokers.

I always swore that I wouldn't be like that. I almost think they are jealous of smokers or something. In regards to vaping there is a smoker at work that loves to point out the "dangers" of e-cigs ad how they are bad for me. I see the joy in her eyes when she does her schtick. She doesn't get to me and I think that drives her nuts.

Not everyone is the same and people will quit or cut down at their own pace. It is just that there are people who just don't understand what it is like.
