What *always* gets me is when windows updates past the point that the BIOS can deal with it. I ran a P4 with win XP Pro from 2006 till early this year... but not even a new version of Windows would have brought that machine up to standard, the BIOS was too old. I keep trying to get my mom to understand this about her 2001 PC, but she's dragging those heels and digging them in, because "it's a perfectly good computer!"

But now I have a LAPTOP that's about 5 times more powerful than any desktop I've ever owned... it's great. :D

I can't speak about computers having been a pro for the past 35 years. But I do buy cheaper laptops for my husband who isn't in a dire need for the latest processor and a massive HD. He's been using an Acer 5720Z Acer Aspire 5720Z Notebook Laptop specs for the past 4 years with minimum upkeep, just changing the battery and upgrading to a (whooping) 250GB HDD. I paid 150 bucks for it in 2011, and he's been happy as puppy with two tails... Whenever I use it I CRINGE of how slow it is (I'm using a i7 with a 1TB disc) but it's been a faithful companion to him, and in spite of the weight he tots it everywhere!

Well, I dunno, but since I don't solder, it wouldn't do me a lot of good, would it?

It is a software thing. The bios is flashram. Figure out the manufacturer of your motherboard and go to their site and see if they have a bios upgrade available. They have a little loader program for it too. Asus for instance is one manufacturer.

Mine is a 1969 BMW R60.

Closest I have to a Beemer is a 1970 MotoGuzzi Ambassador. Horizontal V Twin. It was my Dad's. He rode a lot even though he lost his left leg in WWII

Still wouldn't have done me any good. That PC could only take 4gb ram, which wasn't enough even with XP Pro; knowing Windows, I was pretty sure that 4gb was the *starting* figure for what ram it needed. And it had very very little video ram, so watching videos was painful in the extreme. Now I have an i5 laptop with 16gb ram and lots of vid ram, and everything works as it ought to -- and dual displays is SWEET -- I can keep ECF on one all the time, and whatever else I'm doing on the other. :D and I love Win 8.1 -- wasn't about to upgrade windows until there was a .1 release, I learned my lesson with that back with DOS 4.0. :D When DOS 5.0 came out, I waited till it was 5.1. :D

I sometimes keep the football game on streaming while browsing something else, 10 or more windows open... The connection has a lot to do too.

yeah I finally had to retire one of my old PC carcasses last year. Just so much you can do with an XT styled case and power supply. I finally went to all LCD monitors last year. Even on my PC/SUN server.

My 2gb ram XP Pro box is feeling a little obsolete now. I suspect it may go on strike until it gets a ram upgrade. Much like Susaz's husband, it didn't know what it was missing.
Just yesterday I put it on auto backup to the communal HD (A RAID disc) and it took 4 HOURS to backup...

Yeah, I'm paying comcast thru the nose, so I do have wicked fast internet. Finally I have a computer that can really capitalize on it! There for a while I was keeping "TweetDeck" open in a Chrome browser on the laptop, and ECF on this one, in firefox since the update so I have "hovers" on links... but I've found that too much Twitter contact leads to rage and insanity, so I try to keep it down. :D Now I keep some vape goodie store open in the chrome browser; at the moment it's on that page with the $39.90 Coolfire IV's.... :D I know my husband is aware of my interest (because I told him!) but until I know how the end of May check looks, I'm holding off. He's really glad I'm such a tightwad. :D

Wanna part with it?
I dunno have to dig it out, lots of old stuff in front of it. Has not been run in 30 years, ran when parked though and kept dry.
I do not even remember the model.
I think it is behind the 2 3-wheeled US mail buggies and the 65 Ranchero or maybe the 61 Econoline pickup. will look in the next few days.

I have a really funny story about this... My mother, who has been vaping since January 2015, calls me and says that she can't get any vapor out of her evod. I ask her if it has juice in it and she says yes that she filled it a few hours ago. Well, I go to her house and there is no vapor coming out of it. So I open up the evod, turn it upside down and show her why it wasn't working. She had drained it dry in just a few hours. We changed the coil and filled it and she was back to happily puffing away. I'm her vaping IT department. lol

The vaping equivalent of jiggle the cable. Or have you plugged it it.
