Are you done stocking up?

between here and there
I am not new to vaping. I quit analogs after 30+ years of smoking. It took me about a year into vaping to get completely off the cigs but now there is no circumstance under which I would smoke again.

I am new to the idea that we could lose all of this though. My local vape shop started running out of juice first. I either couldn’t get my flavor or I couldn’t get it in the desired strength. About a month ago they stopped carrying disposable coils, and last week the entire tank section of their display was empty and the only items left in the store are high priced mods and tanks which they keep on the other side of the room from disposables. When I asked what was going on with their inventory they spoke about this “deeming “ thing.

This is how I ended up back on these forums looking for answers and that led me to realizing that I have about a month to stock up. I am extremely grateful to all of you for sharing your knowledge with all of us who were clueless but willing to learn.

At first I was excited to stock up. I felt like I was taking control and not allowing the gov’t and their best buddies BT & BP to take away my right to vape. I got excellent advice here on what I needed to buy for both hardware and DIY juice ingredients. I quickly learned and practiced making juice, easy peasy. I have many rebuildable attys and am learning that too.

All of the vape mail coming in for weeks had me somewhat euphoric. Money is not so tight for me so I even purchased a new 5.1 CF freezer and converted a spare bedroom into my “lab”. During these three weeks or so I have repeatedly fought back the anger that I feel when thinking of my friends that can’t afford to do all of this (both of them smoked 3 packs a day before converting to e-cigs) and then I order more DIY ingredients so that I can cover them too. I even purchased extra Provari 2.5s ( have 7 for myself) and numerous Kayfuns for 2 of my closest friends who have opted not to stockpile because they simply cannot afford to do so.

I am a big Game of Thrones fan and every time I think of my gov’t now I hear the words “shame, shame, shame” in my head. Fans of the show will know what that is about.

This week I am spending time moving 7 liters of 100mg/ml nicotine into smaller amber glass bottles. I have never worked with this stuff before and am very nervous about it. Despite being careful I am spilling some and having to put the cleanup materials into a rubbish bag and feeling like I should have a special hazmat container for them. If my little dog so much as touched a drop of the stuff he would likely expire in minutes.

My bottles are well labeled with all the info needed, but then it occurs to me that there should be a big label with skull & crossbones on them. What if I die and someone has to clean out my freezer? They will have no idea how dangerous that liquid is. I imagine my house on the news with the headline “hazmat situation at blah-blah road” and then I feel like a criminal.

I am prepared for the dark ages when they come, but I am so angry. I have one thing to say to all of these governments that are attacking vaping …..

Shame, shame, shame
I agree with everything you have said except the nervous part. I too was leary of handling such concentrated levels of nic. But the more you use it the more you realize one drop is probably not enough to kill you. Just follow all the safety procedures and if any does happen to get on you or your clothes, change clothes and wash area where the nic touches your skin.
You can always label each bottle as poison and put a big sign in or on the outside of freezer so that any that come behind you is warned. And of course, keep all children and pets out of the area.
And relax. Being nervous only causes more errors(believe me, I know). So if you plan out what you are going to do and mentally set it up in your mind on how you are going to accomplish this task, the more you will feel confident about what you are doing. You will be fine, just have a plan in place.
:)
eta - I find it helpful to label my bottles before I begin the transfer of nic. That way it sets up a plan of procedure. I also cover the labels with tape to keep them from being ruined in case of any accidents(like a small amount going down the side of bottle, etc)

I transfer my nicotine into smaller bottles inside a large cake pan, with a towel (paper towels will work) in the bottom. If any does spill, I simply rinse it well in the kitchen sink. I also use a funnel (wal-mart). Since my bottles are brown, I have a bright light shining behind it in order to see the level. Nitrile gloves and goggles are the only safety items I use.

I feel bad for those that don't know what is coming and don't have anything stocked up.
Same here. I know when I started vaping I was so excited to have finally found something that worked, and a great hobby to boot. To have something like this available to only have it ripped away is so unfair and had I not stocked up I would be very depressed. I'm tired of obsessing over all this and feel in a good place to be finally done. Has to happen some time and after yesterday when trying to get Aspire coils from Fasttech and all that aggravation, I ended up ordering elsewhere and then something just clicked for me. I'm done! If I don't stop myself I'll just keep buying and buying and really can't afford to do that. I realized that feeling of having enough will not go away so I'm content where I'm at and still hoping for the best.

Thanks S&S, I am sure you are right and I will relax once I get used to it. It is very new to me right now.
I also prelabel my bottles and I found out quickly that a bright light was necessary to see the fluid level in the amber bottles. That's how I overflowed my very first bottle....I couldn't see well enough.

I had read here that you should mix over something so I used a shallow plastic storage container to mix in. A good thing too with all that I spilled !

Thanks for all the advice. You folks are wonderful.

I too have done nothing but spend for the last 6 weeks or so and finally feel I have enough. Not only for me but for a few others also. Even if a miracle occurs and the Fed is handed back their regs, I don't ever have to buy another thing. It's good feeling.

At least some are finding their way here.
I feel for those that don't even know that they need to find their way here. :( Can you imagine how bad it can get when they wake up one day and find out :(

Have you done the math to see how long 7 liters will last the three of you? One liter lasts me about 2-1/2 years, but usage varies. Let's say a liter lasts the three of you a year. Is 7 years worth enough to make you feel truly comfortable? A 5.1 cubic foot freezer will hold a LOT more than that. :)

I have never worked with this stuff before and am very nervous about it. Despite being careful I am spilling some and having to put the cleanup materials into a rubbish bag and feeling like I should have a special hazmat container for them. 100mg/ml is 10%. You should definitely keep pets and children away from it, but for adults who have tolerance to nicotine from decades of smoking and vaping, it's really not a huge concern. OK, you wouldn't want to spend time in a bathtub full of it, but if you get a bit on you, wash it off and you'll probably never know the difference.

As for your cleanup materials (paper towels?) rinse them with water before throwing them away. Dilution pretty much eliminates the hazard and nic base is miscible in water. Definitely rinse out the (plastic?) bottles your nic came in several times before you throw them away.

Again, 100mg/ml (10% nicotine) is really not that dangerous. And you have two close friends you're stocking for right? Educate them. Make it their job to take possession of the nic if you should die. Put a large note inside the freezer with their phone numbers on it that bequeaths it to them.

At least some are finding their way here.

I was lucky and my vape shop was letting their customers know that there was a problem coming. From what I've read some shops don't have a clue or aren't willing to tell their customers the truth.

I am also very late to the party. I was happily puffing along on my Nautilus mini until the news came out in May. Yeah, I knew all this talk has been happening for years now, but it was all so slow, I just figured it would be a light sentence when/if it finally happened. Wrong!!!!!!!

So, like many others here, I'm scrambling before the last shoe drops. I had rebuilt a few evod and protank coils in the past, but I really wasn't interested in building. I just wanted to vape hassle-free. Well, I'm finding out it really isn't bad at all. It's actually pretty neat to admire a nice, well-made coil at the resistance I want and practically free, at that. And I LOVE just being able to change the wick without changing the coil every time. Kayfun Mini V3 is just great! (Now if I can just remember to close off the juice flow before I refill the tank  .)

In the last two months, I've really had to get my act together. Bought more nic base. I already had 3 Provaris, but just two tanks. Now I've got 5 Provaris, 10 tanks, a dripper, more flavorings, an ohm reader, a coil winding kit, 4 different sized spools of kanthal, Ko Gen Do cotton, Shiseido cotton, and a box of Sally's cellucotton (rayon). It's Christmas!

Oh, and you guys weren't kidding when you said the 3 lb. cellucotton box was big. I mean, it is BIG! I figure if all this doesn't work out in the future, at least I'll have enough cotton rope to hang myself from a tall building!

I vape at 12mg, one friend vapes at 18 and another at 24 mg (and she vapes ALOT). I've used the vapocolypse calculator and no I am not completely done buying nicotine. I am shooting for 10 years worth since we are reasonably sure it will last ok for 10 years or so, possibly losing some strength at the end of that time.

My very first 10 ml of DIY tasted better than what I buy (used a calculator) and my state will have a 90 % tobacco tax on store-bought probably by August 10th 2016 so I will be making my own from now on regardless of how easy it may be to get in stores or online.

A sign on the freezer sounds like a great idea and yes both friends know about it and one of them lives right here.

Thanks for the suggestions :)

I'm jealous of having an entire clean room at home. Pour slowly, wear some gloves, and wipe stuff up before puppy gets to it. I would clearly label the contents as to what they are with a warning of Do Not Drink, or whatever you feel would best deter an error (although do remember, there's always someone who will do the precise thing you believed no one could possibly do).

Oh, as to the pup. If it helps any, I once had a dog that ate an entire pack of cigarettes. After lapping up my coffee from the mug on the coffee table. The dog was fine. I wasn't.

Good for you! I am about there and am rethinking fasttech & searching in US for the few odds and ends. Still have a few things for fasttech but widdled things down to a few items. I know they won't get here by 8-8 so I don't want to risking anything getting held up that is so essential. I am hoping to be done for all basics by July 5th. Then I can relax a bit LOL

+1 here. Got my last few packages this week, enough for me and my brother, if he needs a few things. At some point, I had that thought, "enough is enough". All you can do, it seems is wait for whatever happens on Aug. 8 to happen. I still sign the petitions, write my letters and email, make the calls when I can, but it's a waiting game now...

I'm still keeping my eyes open and plan on getting some of my favorite ejuices, but as far as needing anything else I feel ok where I'm at. Like I mentioned the feeling of never having enough always lingers in the back of my mind, but I decided to stop obsessing over that.

It will darken and taste nasty before there's a material loss of strength. People on this very forum have reported using nic that's been properly stored in their freezer for going on 6 years now with no change in color and no off taste. I can't think of any reason why it won't last pretty much indefinitely when properly stored.

Personally, I decided a while back that it's better to have too much than too little. I'm 56 years old. I have no idea how long I'll actually live. Life expectancy calculators give me a 50/50 chance of making it some time into my 80s. In any case, I decided I'd rather not wake up some morning 20 or even 30 years from now wishing I had bought more nic back when it was readily available and dirt cheap. :D
