Are you done stocking up?

Mr. @Rossum commented earlier about what people might be doing differently this time around in comparison to the 2016 stockpiling frenzy. My answer to that query is easily “BUY MORE SQUONKERS.”

I had purchased 5 REOs Mods in the spring of 2015. (PIF one to a very, very dear friend who used it to death.) Lots of REOs replacement parts - enough, I think, to carry through for at least five years, if not more, with good maintenance. Those have always been my vapeocalypse, End-of-Days strategy. Other items were what were en vogue at the time, which means I still have three Reauleauxs in cellophane-sealed boxes and practically unused IPV5s. (This is not to even mention random mods that are probably perfectly usable, but I do not “count” towards stocking up inventory.)

But even then, squonking had not gone mainstream enough to alert my attention to it as a central go-to option, plus, the variety of devices was still relatively niche outside of certain forums and FB groups. As I worked at a vape shop, I was mandated to use what we sold, and therefore most of my purchases reflected that. Anything I bought on the side was still mainly influenced by the more prominent discussions on this board, and even then I managed to spend a good deal of money.

I have always envied the people here who have such deep knowledge of artisan vape products and ability to fix and rebuild them. I am a creative person but quite inept at anything mathematical or of engineering. I have a hard time visualizing things without being very deliberate. So, for instance, if someone describes how to fix a mod, I hear the Charlie Brown adults “waah-waah” speak and I cannot follow.

Now that squonking is affordable, easy, and accessible, it is the obvious choice for ME to stockpile. I can drip all day long if need be, but IMO, for ME, squonking is even easier to maintain than an RTA. Y’all might remember I spoke of using the FireLuke Mesh tank for a solid 1.5 years before I just bought my Topside 90w + Profile, and my Serpent Elevate. The transition from drop-in coil tank to squonking was seamless, whereas I still have to fiddle with the RTA (which is still amazeballs).

Back in 2016 I just didn’t have a crystal ball to foresee the products available for purchase now. And that’s why I’m re-doing my stockpiling now.

::end of monologue::

:)

I didn’t stick up last time as I was AWOL from the forum with personal issues. Just as well I was in the dark then, as I could not have afforded any stuff and it would only have added to my stress.

And since then, I’ve gone down every rabbit hole I could find - thank you fellow shiny folk! - and I use devices I never thought I’d try, which have become favorites.

I've got a voopoo navi pod/aio kit available for PIF. I haven't used it, just opened it to see what's in there.

There's a pnp-rba available for it, and Mechlyfe also has an rba for the Vinci series which should fit (Vinci are where the PNP heads were introduced). I don't have either rba, but both are now listed for purchase at multiple sites.

I would like to try it. Of course, I don't really need it so if someone else has a need, it is ok.

So I've been vaping for nearly 5 years, but I'm now forced to admit that I don't know how to fix a mod that stops reading coils. I believe it was @Astron, when talking about working in a vape shop, that mentioned how people were going to be out of luck when this happens after all the vape shops close.

So, what do I do besides clean the contact points? If it helps, this happens to be one of those old eleaf iStick 60w (not the pico) mods. I did test the build to make sure it was the mod as I was able to move the tank over to my Solo and it read it and fired right up. Any help appreciated!

What about other tanks or RDAs. Does it read them?

Nah... that isn't the reason why, I don't think it was the reason for @bnrkwest either. Only 3 of my squonkers were under $10, the other 9 were a wide range of prices. I picked up the cheap ones after buying most of the others. Some of my bf RDAs were a bit pricey as well, only the last 2 that I grabbed were cheapos because @kross8 recommended them (she was raving about them).
I have 7 squonkers, they were on sale but not $10.00 :) I just didn't want to miss out incase I like it and they can be used as mods so no loss.

I don't remember if the istick center pin on the 510 was spring loaded or not. Years ago I had that problem with different mods that weren't spring loaded and you could gently grab the center pin and pull up on it a little and it would make contact again with the atty.

eLeaf site says it's spring loaded: "stainless steel threads and spring connector: As a member of iStick series device, it retains stainless steel threads for strong wear resistance and spring connector for high adaptability."

Eleaf electronic cigarette » iStick TC60W

The spring could be stuck, though. I have had that happen in a mod (actually it was the the Aspire CF eGo battery, which is one of the few eGos with a spring-load pin). If they get liquid in them and never cleaned, it can make the spring not function properly. The stiffer the spring, the more likely this is to happen.

As said, can you "wiggle" the 510 pin up a tad? Does a different topper read on it? Might be the particular tank, there's often slight variations on how far the pin protrudes.

My 2016 stocking up was basic survival stock of the setups I really liked and little else. The deeming seemed like something that might not hold up to challenges, so enough to weather the storm for a few years seemed fine. In 2019 with vaping being treated as a scourge it feels very likely my future choices will not be available or will cost a great deal more. I think of it as beefing up and diversifying the stockpile in 2019.

I admit it was price that led me down the squonking rabbit hole. I had a chance to pick up a couple Vandyvape Pulse 80's last spring for $10 each and couldn't pass them up. That led to a few Profiles, Galaxies and Holics. Then the Luxotics and Athenas were cheap fun. The closeout Armageddons wrapped things up nicely.

For a total of about $250 I have a great variety of enjoyable squonk setups and spares. Nothing like that could have been stocked up at such a reasonable cost in 2016 and most didn't exist. I'm thankful many interesting options showed up on the market since 2016 and prices plummeted.

Part of the enjoyment of vaping for me has always been the research and the hunt, learning more and finding great deals. These last few months have been a lot of fun, whether it was for a tiny order or a bigger one. I can now keep a stash at a couple locations too.

ECF has always been about vapers helping vapers and that happens quite a bit in this thread. The sharing of styles, ideas and finds here has been a fun part of it too. Otherwise we'd be a pretty boring crowd right now, sitting tight, just waiting for the hammer to drop.

Thanks for the responses all. As far as other tanks, it didn't read my other subtank mini either, but I suppose I could bust out one of my Sirens and give that a try. It's at home while I'm at work, so I'll try to manipulate the center pin tonight. Thanks again!

If it doesn't have a spring loaded 510 then you could try this

it is what we did back in the day when we couldnt get a connection.

I really need to take time to do some inventory again, I got a couple FT orders for coils and a couple cheap clone tanks. Except for outstanding orders here and there, nothing major that I need. Just a few odds and ends. A few more coils that are rebuildable & a few pods to refill. Another rebuilding kit as a spare. Things like that.
