AFAIK, no, shouldn't bother the nic.

BUT, why? Just leave 1/4" or so room on top, not much air/O2, seal well, and don't reopen until it's back to room temp. The tiny amount of oxygen won't make any noticeable difference, maybe not even measurable.

Getting to prep all the nic i have squirreled away for freezing and I need a clarification. It's the oxygen we have to worry about, right? Would argon or carbon dioxide bother the nic?

My understand is that if the bottle is close to full the small amount of air in the top won't contain enough oxygen to make a difference. I know some people top the bottle off with argon. Some vendors sell it freezer ready with argon on top.

Forgive me for asking what may be a stupid question, but if argon is a gas, how does one "top off" the bottle with it? Is argon that dense that it will just stay there as you put the cap on?
That's the premise as I understand it.

AFAIK it's an inert gas used to keep fine wine from oxidizing by displacing the oxygen.

    O/t..

It appears I am up for adoption again.. Eerr..maybe homeless I dunno ;)

Anyway I had a home over at @Uncle social distance board.. It derailed or something... None of my business.

Anyway I don't want to hijack this thread or any other threads.. So if you know of any open topic threads who may be interested in my ramblings please let me know... I won't post without an invite because that puts me in the hijacker position.

I can't start a board because I may not post often enough to keep it open.. Been there..done that..

Got nothing right now.. So no hurry -thanks :)

Yes. Argon is heavier than air, so it would "settle" in the empty space at the top of the bottle. So, if you happen to inhale a bunch of it, it will also settle in the bottom of your lungs. Stand on your head and breathe :)

I purge my Nicotine with argon, I always have. I have the argon and a old fish tank, I put the bottles in the tank, and a glass with a candle on top, and purge. When the candle goes out they are capped. Some would ask why? and my answer is because I can. Just my :2c:.

I have a bunch of argon socks somewhere. That's all I know.

Why would anyone top off their nic with these?
