I don't know that I'm a particularly shy person, but I can be a little anti-social. Or a lot anti-social. Let's just be nice and say I need a lot of personal solitude in my life. I can be somewhat impatient with smalltalky type conversations when I'm out running errands and trying to get things done, and I freely admit to being one of those people who prefers the company of animals to other people. I find that even my reptilian babies tend to be less cold blooded than some of the humans I meet, so, yeah, not too terribly social outside of family and friends. I listen more than I talk with most people, and I ask a lot of questions- you learn a lot about human nature that way, both good and bad.
I don't really feel the need to talk much unless I actually have something to say, but lately, vaping is definitely something I can talk about with just about anyone. When I first started, I talked quite a bit about it with the employees and other customers at the smokeshop I bought my first kit from (and the cigar lounge up the street I like to visit- people are vaping there now too!), and got a lot of useful information out of them, and now, they're getting still more info from me, thanks to my ECF education.
It's fun that we are all learning together, and all the other things that we might be at odds over, lifestyle, religion, politics, personal views, waaaay too many piercings, my compulsive need to proselytize to and scold people who kill spiders and use pesticides... these things never even come up, let alone get in the way of connecting, because we're all preoccupied with this great new thing that's changing all our lives for the better, and it's fun to cheer each other on.
As mattiem noted, finding common ground is essential to human connection, and fighting an addiction, exploring a new passion together, just seems to inspire us to overcome our personal barriers in our desire to help one another succeed.
