I choose to vape because IMO it's a safer alternative to analogs. I never tried lowering my nic level when smoking, so having the option to do so now is just a bonus. I did however drop from 24mg to 18mg recently. I'm not in a rush to change levels or worried about what level anyone else is. As you said yourself it's enough of a struggle to quit! So if I can get to a 12mg by summers end I'd be estatic! If I don't it's no big deal. I also choose to vape because the liquid is much more cost effective than buying analogs. Reguardless of what level I end up at, I'm happy to be off the analogs. I don't stink, have got a lot of my taste and smell back.....and can breathe better.

Because I feel so relaxed when I vape 24mg with my Reo. All that would happen with lowering my nic is that I would just vape more.

I like nicotine. It helps me feel chilled out. Why would you lower your level if you get the same, if not more satisfaction from a healthier method of ingesting it?

For me? Let's just say I'm hedging my bets against a ban on juice and hardware vendors as we know them today. I can always go back up if the tide of public opinion starts to sway in the opposite direction. Perhaps I'm just being paranoid though. I don't think Nic is a bad substance by any means.

Part of the purpose of quitting smoking, is no longer being addicted to a drug. We all had such trouble quitting, because the nicotine was so highly addictive. Just think about how it felt, all those times you tried to quit cold turkey. So you must admit, that part of the reason you quit, and why you kept smoking, was the addiction. The addiction is tied directly to the negative health effects of smoking, because if you weren't addicted, you would have been able to quit much easier, and we wouldn't have nearly as many vapers as we have today. Also vaping may not have ever been needed, as quitting cold turkey would have been a lot easier.

That said, why do so many vapers (probably nearly all of you) continue to just vape at whatever nicotine levels you were smoking at? Its so easy to just ween down now. I started at 18mg, (iirc) and slowly, over time, got down to 0mg. This did take a few years. But I did it. There are plenty of places out there that will let you go in intervals of 2mg, up or down. The place in town where I buy most of my vape juice also does this. I went down to 16, 14, 12, 10, etc etc until I got to zero. If for whatever reason, I can not vape, no big deal. So why don't most people do this? Why would you want to remain addicted, so that if something happens where you just can't vape, you go into freakout mode? Its actually disgusting to watch. There are plenty of situations that could arise that could prevent you from being able to vape, possibly for days at a time. Nicotine has also been linked to stomach cancer so that's another reason.
I personally reject nearly all of your premises, and therefore, your entire argument.
Your words do not apply to me in any way.

I never wanted to quit smoking, and I will not quit vaping nor reduce my nicotine intake.

I consider nicotine to be better for me than NOT having nicotine.
I believe I can support that scientifically without too much effort or trouble

And I reject any efforts to paint me as some kind of addict.

I am no longer addicted to nicotine, if I ever was.
I am making a conscious decision to continue to use it.

Same here.

And as to "disgusting to watch" - uhm.. how about that posting that you are quoting? To me, that is disgusting to read.

At this present moment I am not weening down from my usual 12mgs simply because I choose not to. I am very unique in that fact that I started vaping at zero nic, and did so for about 6-8 months, and then eventually worked my way up to 12mg. My journey was backwards, but it would take some time for me to adjust to the throat hit from ejuice. I went from zero, to 6mg, to 12mg, at which point I finally quit smoking ... everyone's journey is different.

thats really interesting and didnt think of that to up the nic till the want wasnt there kudos to u for creativity

Why am I not weening down? Because I enjoy nicotine. I vape not too much more than 1 mL a day of 18mg, which is the strength I've been on since day 1, a couple months ago. I quit smoking cigarettes a few yrs ago, and hadn't been using anything nicotine related for a couple yrs. I started using snus a little over a yr ago, and I realized how I'd missed the feeling of nicotine, which I view to be no more harmful than caffeine. I bounced around from snus, to dip, to the occasional cigarette, but this just grossed me out. When I realized how cheap e-cigs were on ebay, I finally ordered 1, and got some juice from a B&M up the street. I was VERY impressed right off the bat, and my Ego clone + CE4 performed better than I ever thought e-cigs would be. I've literally spent about $35 on gear, and I have 3 batteries w/ about 10 clearomizers. I always have at least 5 flavors I rotate with, and I just take it easy w/ 2 second puffs. But from my perspective, I just don't see myself wanting to ween my nic. down to 0 like some ppl do. I <3 nicotine.

I worked down to zero and that is what I vape 99% of the time. In the process I discovered that to cope with certain other disorders I deal with at time I HAVE to vape a higher nic for anywhere from an hour to day. 1 day at higher nic is far better than a life of sedatives and antidepressants. SO no I will never be 100% nic free.

I vape, purely as an alternative to smoking ... I may reduce my nicotine one day ... then again, I may not.

However, I also drink regular beer with no desire to wean down to light beer and then onto non-alcoholic beer.

Vaping with nicotine is not an issue for me ... smoking cigarettes were the issue :2cool:

may I give you a long-distance hug, please?
You put this so very well! Thank you!

The non-alcoholic beer analogy was great lol. To each their own, but I'm not vaping just to go thru the motions. In fact, I don't want to take big hits and create clouds whatsoever. I just want a neat tidy nic. dose w/ a quick draw. I'd honestly like to try 24mg, but don't wanna buy a whole bottle. I feel like the 18mg is strong enough, judging by how little it takes to stay nice.

Heh, that's a very interesting way to think about it. At this point I've found the "tinkering" helps to further my disconnect from smoking. The nic-fix certainly does but I have the kind of mind that has to be occupied with *something* or I get antsy. Just goes to show how dissimilar we may be despite being so similar :)

Todd, well what you said makes perfect sense. Actually, when I was a beginning vaper, I bought and tried out a LOT of mods n' stuff. So I agree, keeping occupied also helped me stay the course.

ALL I cared about the first 6-8 months was staying off cigs.

It's just that now I'm well over a year into this, and my goals have changed.

My new goal is more freedom, less fiddling, and also, saving money. I simply don't want to spend on this habit anymore, for whatever reason, I mapped out a few camping / fishing trips I'd like to take in Spring, and some big horse races to go to, all require me to save $$ for mini vacations. :)

I think for all of us, short term goals are a moving target anyway.

In other words, I love nicotine. I used to love it more than I do now. I just want to move forward to try to love some other stuff in 2014 :) We'll see. I may vape forever, I dunno yet.

This is something that crosses my mind more than occasionally as well. I am not at all certain that nicotine had anything at all to do with the difficulty I had breaking my tobacco habit. I am not at all certain my continued use of nicotine has anything to do with addiction. I've read hundreds, if not thousands, of times that nicotine is addictive, but I have seen first hand how addiction works and how it can make people behave... and forgetting my PV on my desk when I leave for work does not cause me to act any differently or have any particular stress - knowing my favorite juice vendor was not selling juice for a few months did not cause me any particular stress or cause my behavior to change or cause any physiological changes to me - etc etc etc.

I feel dumb, cuz i havent totally quit smoking yet. have 4 cigarettes left i refuse to waste. (I know call me crazy, but I will not throw them away). that being said im at 24mg. thinking of going to 36mg. just to at least make the transition easy. I enjoy smoking and have always. only been doing it for a year or so (im young). at any rate I like the nicotine buzz cigarettes give you and was never heavily "addicted." im seeking to recreate the same experience with vaping and use it recreational. much like some people drink to get a buzz or even get drunk, but dont necessarily get addicted to it. nicotine is much more addicting, but i dont have an addictive personality. even if i stay addicted, as they say have backups for your backups. i dont think im really addicted anymore. i only vape like half a mL of 24mg most of this week. and have only smoked like one cigarette in the last week. i guess just didnt help much. i plan on maybe weaning down some. but dont see myself going below 12mg. like i said. i enjoy the buzz. i might even try wta at some point (so expensive)

Quiting is so different for every person. What may be easy for you, might not be easy for someone else. We're reducing our harm by vapeing dramatically, and most of enjoy the effect of nicotine. It's part of why vapeing works. We still get to enjoy what we love so much, in a much safer and some would argue in a much more enjoyable way.
