Well I guess I'm not technically a n00b as I have been vaping for a year now but I'm new to looking beyond the standard commercial offerings and new to the ECF.

After some research and some conversation here on ECF I decided to replace my year old eGo with a Maxi Roughstack v2 (choosing Army green out of preference) with a pair of AW 18650. Due to what I replaced I will be making all comparisons to my old 900mah eGo. I'll tell you in advance that the good outweigh the bad so I will start with the bad to get it over with.

The Bad: The Roughstack itself is much lighter than I had assumed. The finish is really bad, there are random flecks under the paint. Too few for me to feel it's an intentional part of the finish but to many for it to be a QC oversight. I could actually live with that but there are two major flaws that just drive me nuts. on opposite sides well say the left and the right (for the sake of saying so) there is on the left (button up 510 adapter down) a large clump of the previously mentioned specs on the cap. On the right a scrape in the pain that must have happened while it was wet. The battery does move inside but it's only a little and it doesn't bother me or interrupt the service. One other small thing... with the batteries, the AW label on the pair are stickers as opposed to being a part of the actual red plastic casing. I found this odd as there is no way for me to actually know they are the brand they state. For such a prestigious brand I just found this odd.

The Good: With my same Boge Cartomisers this combination of PV and battery produces a fantastic amount of vapor for a very long time. I've been vaping for 2 strait days and am still on my first charge. The vaping is consistent and great. The Maxi Roughstack v2 fits great in my larger than average hand (kind of like a roll of quarters) and the new button placement bothers me not at all. I'm quite certain that when I feel up to it I could strip the paint off of the unit and either repaint it another color I would like or even just polish it up and all would be quite well.

In summary: The extra $5 for a $1 paint job isn't worth it but the $45 for the unit itself is absolutely worth it if you're ready to take the step beyond the proprietary sealed units like those of Joytech etc. Three days in and I'm completely satisfied with my new unit. I'll see if I can post the pics below. I included my older eGo in one or two for comparison.

The roughstacks are excellent mods. I've got a few of them, and they all work great! It's funny you mention the finish on your green RS; I just received a blue stardust with similar irregularities. One side of the cap was lighter than the other, and it had these specs of coating, like the powdercoat gun was dirty or clogged. However, I snapped some photos and opened a ticket with MV, and a replacement is on the way, less than 24 hours later.
Im understand they (madvapes) have been going through some growing pains; but in the 10 months and >$500 I've spent with them, this is the first issue I've had, and it was handled as professionaly as I could ask for. I wish more online retailers were as put-together as MV.

** UPDATE **
"Besides the paint job, any other complaints or did I just settle on my first mod"

Good question and my update has to do with it. My switch has started to flake out on me. it will cease to fire and then I will need to remove the cap and put it back on to get it to fire again. I opened a ticket with madvapes and they informed me that they don't warrant the switches due to the various amounts of voltage that can be put through them. This makes no sense as they are made to handle multiple batteries at multiple voltages and I informed them in my initial notes that I was running a measly 3.7V. after I pointed out how the response varied from the statement on the sales page they sent me a simple response that says they would fix any issues if I shipped it in. I would really prefer they just sent me a backup switch as they are extremely cheap and I doubt it would eat into their profit all that much. It really just drives me nuts to have to go with out my PV for a week (I assume) over a $2 switch that will cost me $15 otherwise. I know It is now I who am being hard headed but I really don't want to deal with them any more. Such dishonesty really turns me off of an establishment but I screwed up and bought a proprietary system and that is my own fault.

Correspondence is pasted below.

My roughstack button occasionally misfires and seems to be getting worse. Is this typical? what is the lifespan of these switches? I'm using a 3.7v batt so I'm assuming it shouldn't be a voltage issue. According to threads I've read on ECF this is a known issue?

Message:

we are not the lifespan of the switches due to different uses in voltage and vapes by the user.
One suggest we have to is clean the under cap of the RoughStack. If you have a solder iron, please heat it up so that the solder would burn off the flux. The connection between the battery and the cap is not connected well that is why it takes longer for the connection to connect.

Thank you for choosing MadVapes

In the two days since the ticket was created I have had to resort to taking the cap off and put it back on to get the button to work correctly. I understand you "are not the lifespan of the switches due to different uses in voltage and vapes by the user" but I am using LOW voltage and the item is only 30 days old. I have wiped the contacts as instructed but if I've spent $85 just to go back to using my eGo units I will not be happy. The description for the unit states "You can use an 18650 for 3.7 volt vaping, 2 16340 3 volt batteries for 6 volt vaping or two 3.7 volt 18350's for 7.4 volt vaping" it doesn't say you use them at your own risk. The description goes on to say "Full 3 month warranty on RoughStack V2's!" and there are no stipulations for the switch. IF wiping the contacts does the trick then I will be happy but going against your own product description and charging an exorbitant $15 per switch is not acceptable.

If cleaning it does not resolve the issue, please send it in for us to fix it or we will send you an replacement.

Thank you for choosing MadVapes
