I understand the build vert coils, and I have, but so far with every coil setup I have tried, the best flavor and performance came from a 3mm id 6 wrap 24G spaced. Cant really fit that vertically...

And thats another slight issue i have with this tank... Flavor is WAY muted from all the rest of my tanks. I DIY juice. Mixxed up a nice batch of strawberry ice cream the other day. no flavor. let it age. not much flavor. added a little more flavoring, still could hardly taste it. filled my Crown with it... HOLY F$^&!! Way to much flavor! went back to the aromamizer, hardly any flavor... I had to cut it 50% with pure VG to be able to vape it in the Crown.

Others, including myself, have been getting 6 wrap 3mm id spaced to fit vertically just fine. Only problem I've had is with wicking heavily enough without deforming, and that's a matter of the wire, not build orientation.

As a matter of fact, if your airflow isn't centered, you're not going to get any airflow thorough longer coils if its horizontal and wicked generously. That may be why the flavor is muted to you. I had the same thing happen to me when I was messing around trying to see what works and what doesn't.

Could you build a coil and upload a pic?

Muted? The Aromamizer is the best flavor tank I have but that that doesn't mean everyone else is taking full advantage of it's capabilities.
The leading cause of muted flavor in an rta or rda is insufficient power in my experience. For most it's because they can't turn the power up for one of two reasons.
Bad Coil Symmetry: uniformity of the coil causes the wick to have insufficient compression against the inside of the coil allowing one or more areas of wire to overheat. You can't turn power up because it gives a burny taste.
Insufficient Wick Density: Same result as bad coil symmetry.

Try wicking the coil chunky. Lots of cotton or rayon in there and place the wicktails lightly over the juice holes. You should be able to run your 24g 6wrap 3mm kanthal build at 80w minimum with 80vg and the flavor should be stellar.

ok, here is my current build. 24G 3mm ID, 6 wrap spaced. Wicked with a lot of Rayon. still learning Rayon, I normally use KGD... the tails are just long enough to reach the deck, but I honestly dont like how full and fat the shoulders are. If I thin the wicking though it seems to move to freely inside the coil and Im worried about it not touching properly. I am running this on my 2s PWM mod at about 50-55% duty cycle. if I bump it to 60% I get a slightly burny taste.

anyway, heres the coils....

In the last pic you can tell there is open space below the coil. that applies to both coils, it just isnt showing on the first pic that well due to my camera flash and the angle.

Ok, I just watched a vid on youtube by crappy vapes about wicking vert builds on this deck... Yea... I was all sorts of messed up. when I get home tonight Ill tear this out and try rebuilding it vertically with what I saw in the vid. Whats sad is when I first got thit tank i must have doe something different building it. I was getting great flavor. Or maybe I was just getting that bad of flavor from my TFV4... and my poor build in this was a step up from that. regardless right ow my Crown is blowing this away for flavor... Hoping I can get it sorted out tonight.

My dual vertical Clapton build turned out pretty solid in my Aromamizer after some false starts with horizontal. Easier to build IMO.

To your other point, I find that my Crown with the prebuilt 0.25 coil blows away the Aromamizer taste-wise. It also blows away my other Crown with RBA. I am confident that it is my coil building and wicking skills or lack thereof.

Ok, I had a build looked like this that vaped terrible, so I think I see the problem.

When you put the top on and look in the air holes, you're looking right at those big fluffy wick shoulders, right? Or you are running a two hole band and looking in an air hole you see the bottom half of your coil?

Either way, the airflow is being restricted and drawn through the wicking, which is what is muting the flavor.

Try the vertical when you get a chance, make sure you crop the top wicking close, and let us know how it goes.

Alternatively, you can try leaving the wicking inside the coil on your horizontal exactly how they are, but trim everything outside the coil, removing 1/3 or even 1/2 the material so you can get some air moving through there.

ok. So untill I can get home and rebuild, Ill see if I can trim some of the shoulders back on it to get more airflow. Thanks for your advise.

I actually have clocked the airflow holes back a touch so that one set is lined up on the coils and one set is lined up with the posts. then I tried taping off teh holes on teh posts. I have also tried leaving it at the approximate 45 angles that it sits at tightened down all teh way. really the only difference was with the two holes blocked off it tightened up the airflow, but no real impact on flavor.

Yeah, going to a 3mm ID horizontal you do end up with the wick blocking some of your airflow. I am getting great flavor from my 2.5mm ID horizontals though. That build does have a little less airflow than my 3 vertical builds, but the flavor is fantastic. I have them pretty much centered to the airholes. Now what's funny is that on the Bellus I get the best flavor using higher coils.

How about vertical builds on the velocity deck? How much cotton you leave on top? I cut flush to the top of the posts so that leaves 3mm and it gets really dark after 2-3 tanks. The rest of the cotton is clear white.
I noticed the coils and cotton in them is ok also, nothing dirty or so but flavour is funny. I think it's the top part of cotton to blame for that. Anyone cutting straight on top of the coil?

I cut mine even with the top of the posts, but my coils are 7 spaced wraps so it's barely any cotton at the top. But mine do get a little brown after a few tanks when in VW mode but in TC they stay white for a long time..

I'm in watts mode,42. Don't have tc to test.
My theory is that no new juice goes there and it is being cooked or something constantly.
Will try cutting straight at the coil and see how it goes.

I would think that will cause wicking problems. Let us know how it goes.

Ok, new build. better flavor but still no where near my crown... dual 24g 3mm id 7 spaced wraps at .35 ohms. first pick is finished build, second is showing how long I left the tails that were fluffed adn tucked. Top of the wick is trimmed even with the top of the posts.

Still wanting to get good flavor out of this thing... I pulled the deck out of the bottom piece of the tank and when I screwed it back it I snugged it, but not to tight. then I used a file and lightly marked on the bottom knurled ring where the center of the coils are, or rather the center of the space between the posts. when I reassembled the tank I checked and the two air holes are now at 45 degrees to the coils.

Like I said, better flavor, good clouds, but no where near the flavor I was expecting. I am not sure the exact wattage I am hitting it at as I am using a PWM mod and it pulses full voltage from the series batts to the 510 via a 555 timer. Im runing it at about 45-55% duty cycle so it SHOULD be somewhere around 4-4.3 volts at the 510. Should be somewhere in the neighborhood of 45-50 watts...

That's interesting, I noticed on my current build 2 holes near direct and 2 almost on the posts had way more flavor than near 45 degrees to all in a vertical setup.

Wicks look too long imo, I cut mine almost even with the build deck lip.
