I am going out on a limb here (guessing) and assUme that one might find a tip here and there on the site that is for sale (without notice) until all the pre-orders (waiting list) are filled.

Most of the ones on the site are ones he made and sold. They are there to show the different styles/color combinations that he can/has produce(d).

I'm sure you're right but it would be helpful to those visiting the site be told in an announcement at the site that this is the status. I realize Bert must be up to his eyeballs in orders to be filled and then having to make new stock, but as a potential purchaser, visiting his site, it's frustrating.

I have read and understood your frustrations. As an artist I have become accustomed to learning from critiques, and if you have ideas for me that would make it easier for you as a collector I promise I will listen and respond. From the time the idea was conceived I have done this and I will continue to do so. I am trying right now to come up with the best possible tips using everyone's suggestions as a roadmap to a beautiful, functional, and accessible end product. With that said, I have a suggestion of my own and your thoughts about it would be much appreciated.

In the future I am considering moving the pictures of sold product to the gallery at Open Lab Glass. Only products that are in stock will be on trippy tips at any given time.

The reasons I like this idea:
1) Trippy tips will immediately become easier to use since only "Available" products would be shown.
2) I can add a link to the gallery and draw more traffic to my blog

The reasons I have not yet done this:
1) The page would often times be empty
2) People could not write reviews about the tips that they receive (like Buckeye Brutus did, Thanks Buckeye Brutus BTW)
3) ALL of the tips which would be listed currently would say $100,000
4) People would have to navigate away from my store to see what I have sold in the past
5) It is a lot of time/work to post the images to both sites and manage which ones are visible on any given site at any given time
6) Once the custom orders are done I will have much more stock on a daily basis which will in turn cause a lot less frustration

What do you all think?
Thank you for your time and thoughts on the matter!
~Bert

Ok, so custom orders are pre-5/13/11. No more custom orders until after that list is complete. All stock ones available on the site.

Does that about size it up?

As of now, I could not have summed the situation up better than these two posts. Like I have said before I think that things will be a lot easier for new collectors when my current custom list is done.

Hi Bert,

First I'd like to thank you for taking the time to listen and post your thoughts.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I think that part of the frustration is being on the list for orders, and then finding out that other tips that were not on the list are being posted and sold, while those waiting for their tips continue to wait.

I think you are absolutely correct in saying that once you get through the custom orders and get some stock up, much of the frustration will go away.

Is it possible to have 2 galleries on the site? One would be tips that are offered for sale, the other would be examples of your work that have already been sold. The sold gallery would allow people to write reviews. You are exposing many people to the art of glass blowing that aren't familiar with it. Having examples of Honeycombs, wig wags and other techniques and colors could help them in ordering and in turn aid you in communicating with them.

My other suggestion would be to try, if possible, to announce in advance when you are putting product on the site for first-come, first-served customers. The makers of popular PV mods like REOs and Phids do this, and it seems to work very well.

Your tips are exceptional, and I think that people understand that they are hand-made, which is part of their appeal. They are willing to wait. If they could have some idea when product would be posted for sale, and still see completed examples of your work on the site, it might serve everyone very well.

Again, thanks for reaching out to us.

Hey there Mr. White. While I can see how some might be a bit frustrated, we have to remember that we don't all know how glass blowing works. As far as I can tell Bert has to make a whole tube of the requested color combination to possibly make just one tip. He also wants to make his customers happy so he gives them choices. Therefore there are extra tips that might be left over that are then available to those who did not have the chance to place custom orders.

Maybe it would be a good idea to offer the left overs to the people on the waiting list first? But IMO, it should then be required that you give up your custom order. Otherwise it would just be that much longer until other people who didn't make "the list" get a chance to own a Trippy Tip.

Bert, I agree with those who have suggested having a SOLD gallery. Yes, that would potentially leave your other galleries empty but you could put a place holder in each one and possibly put an estimated arrival date???

I wish I was more familiar with your site host so I could be more helpful :( I am super excited about getting my own personal work of art, and honestly I think the anticipation adds something to the experience. I'm always checking in here to see if there are updates, and every time I open ECF I hope there is a PM from you ;)

That is an excellent suggestion. In my case, I would be happy to replace my order for a Loki's honeycomb with a Caramel honeycomb, and that would fill one of my 2 custom orders. I'd take a round tip in either--or Amber for that matter.

That would make it easier to clear the custom orders and free up Bert to go in whatever direction he wanted to as far as colors and designs.

I don't think this solution would be that hard to offer either...once the pics are ready for the site they could just be included in a pm to those on the waiting list. The first person to request a certain tip get's it. Yes, that might mean that if someone on the bottom of the list responds quicker they get a tip before someone who's been waiting longer, but it would clear up the list pretty quick. ??? Bert could even send out a warning PM announcing what time he will release the available tips so people can try to be abailable???

IDK, just throwing out the idea :vapor:

I can't tell you how many times I've had this thought, and I appreciate your putting it so clearly cricket. I think this is how we will proceed. It was necessary for me to give trippy tips a "test run" which did allow for some people who were not on the list to order. I'm sorry that this was frustrating to some people, and I assure you this was not my intention. Now that I know a little more about how the site operates I will be posting ALL $100,000 tips until the custom list is finished. I will be getting ahold of everyone on the list shortly letting you know the exact way that this will work so that there is no confusion. This will also allow people to see what I am making and anticipate the goodies that they will be able to buy when the custom list is done, which will hopefully be much sooner than it would be.
As always thank you all for helping me make the best possible tips accessible to you.
~Bert

I would also like to announce that the official newsletter for Trippy Tips is in the works! The newsletter will initially keep people up to date on how far along I am on the custom list, as well as announce when a new batch of tips will be posted for sale. You can subscribe to the newsletter under the "Accounts" tab at the Trippy Tips website.

I would also appreciate your input on what to call the Trippy Tips newsletter. I have a couple of ideas on what to call it, but I want to hear what you all have to say as well!

Here is what I am thinking so far:
"Daily Tips" <---but it won't be coming out on a daily basis
"Tips for Everyone"
"The Tip Off"

I look forward to hearing your ideas. Oh, and by the way...If I choose your title I will give you a chance to sneak on to the end of the custom list :)
