Iqos will probably cost as much as smoking. Once you start a cartridge you have to keep puffing until is done, like a cigarette. I mix and rebuild. Iqos is not my thing but may be it will get people off cigs until they're smart enough to switch to vaping, even lower risk and lower cost, unless vaping is eliminated to insure Iqos success? Our dear, dear government wouldn't do that to us, right?

Of the folks that I know that use or have used Iqoos, you highlight exactly the appeal.
They are made by the same company, so the flavors should be familiar. The pack looks similar and costs a bit less.
Iqoos are sold in the same store that sold them cigarettes for years. No special stores or buying online. No break from the routine.
It's got a filter, just like a cigarette, no plastic nipple. No liquid to fill, spill or swallow.
It is JUST like the habit they have had for years. Take one out of a pack, get it going, use until finished. Toss the ..... It ends, just like a cigarette, it is a "dose".
The appeal is quite broad and nonthreatening. Simple sells.

In places that already permit tobacco combustion cigarettes, Iqoos is a logical next generation product.
Perhaps some will stop or continue to e-liquid based vaping, but for many cigarette smokers, myself included, we never "graduated" to pipes or cigars. We just continued to buy packs, year after year.

100's of millions have been spent making Iqos ready for market. It must have it points. I'm not against it. In the mean time I've chosen vaping for a number of reason and won't be changing, there's no reason to. If there is interference with access to product I'll be pushing back.

FDA is currently working on regulations to remove ALL flavors other than tobacco from the market. This is going to decimate the industry as we know it now, long before the deeming drop dead date. Vaping as we are accustomed to, is OVER, whether folks accept it or not. This is happening, like it or not, done deal. This industry will implode into nothing in a giant cascade without the FDA having to review any pesky PMTA's, other than a few wink wink nod nod ones from the big players...

Yep. It’s as “only slightly better” as could possibly be managed while maintaining as much addiction potential as possible. Worse in all ways than an e-cigarette for quitting. Just as BT designed it to be. Plus they get a monopoly now. There are patents. Old ones that will expire soon, but they’re there for now. Giant buckets of money for one of the most awful companies our society has produced with more dead bodies under their belt than any other.

The Only Consolation is if the FDA is doing it, they have to use the "Rule Making" process. And that is on a comparable Speed level with Tectonic Plate Shift. Or Global Warming.

So at Least We will have some Time to Stock Up. And Some Advanced Warning.

Now Individual States? That could be Another Matter all together.

What statute gives them the authority to do this prior to the PMTA deadline?

"Regulations" have to go through a process established under the Administrative Procedures Act. That process includes a formal Proposed Rule, Public Comment Period, Reviews, and so on. It would be very difficult to get a new "Regulation" in place before next May.

Today, the Trump Administration announced that as part of its ongoing work to tackle the epidemic of youth e-cigarette use, the FDA intends to finalize a compliance policy in the coming weeks that would prioritize the agency’s enforcement of the premarket authorization requirements for non-tobacco-flavored e-cigarettes, including mint and menthol, clearing the market of unauthorized, non-tobacco-flavored e-cigarette products. The FDA plans to share more on the specific details of the plan and its implementation soon.
I do not see how "prioritize the agency’s enforcement of the premarket authorization requirements" would come into play before the PMTA deadline because there are no premarket authorization requirement until then.

This is the problem with “trump administration announced” There’s a real act before think issue there that’s been going on for a long time.
