Hi everyone,

I'm new to vaping (a whopping two weeks in) and I'm hoping you can help me. I have a Nautilus Mini and love it. However, just yesterday it began inconsistently sputtering hot juice on my tongue when I take a draw. I never know when it's going to happen and it's rather startling and uncomfortable. Regardless which air hole I select this still occurs.

I haven't done anything differently (ex: accidentally dripped juice down center post when refilling, overfilled past the 2 ml. line, or cranked up the voltage/wattage past my usual setting). After refilling I follow the instructions and wait about 2 min. before vaping, and often slowly turn the tank on its side to make sure cotton is absorbed for good measure. (I got in this habit since I sometimes mix two flavors together). Could this explain my issue? The tank hasn't leaked nor have I had any other problems.

Also, hearing atomizers/coils should be changed about every two weeks, I just changed it for the first time today and hoping this may rectify the issue. It didn't. It's still sputtering (after letting it sit for about 2 min. then following with my slow twirl ritual.) These are the BVC coils. I even removed the drip tip and cleaned it out with a Q-tip thinking maybe some juice was inside. No change.

What the flippin' flip is going on with this damned thing? Anybody out there able to help a newbie not burn her tongue off or develop PTSD from these little hot sputters that feel like electrical shocks? Geesh! Talk about negative conditioning!

Try this...
Make sure all the seals are positioned correctly in place and screw in the tank so its fully seated. Open up your airhole, grab a tissue, and gently blow the excess liquid out through the airhole. Leave the airholes wide open and take a hit. When clear, adjust the airflow to your liking. Since the coils are relatively new, it sounds like its flooding. You open the airflow up so less liquid is being drawn up through the coils.

Thank you for this tip! Hmmm... have a few questions to make sure I'm understanding you correctly. Realize these may be silly, but I'm still very new to vaping, so thank you for your patience.

1). Do this blowing technique with the tank on my unit or before screwing it on? Does it matter?
2). Blow the excess liquid out from the drip tip or the air hole itself?
3). What exactly is flooding, what causes it, and what can be done to prevent it? Have heard about it but still baffles me.
4). Does flooding occur more commonly with newer coils? Was having this issue before replacing. Thankfully, it has gotten better since I made this post but still want to try this troubleshooting.

Again, thank you for your advice and patience with this newbie.

Again, thank you for your advice and patience with this newbie.

Let me simplify the steps..

Remove your tank from your mod/unit. Clean your mod/unit for any juice in the 510 connection.
Turn your tank so it's upside down, unscrew the base.
Remove your coil and use a paper towel, tissue, or q-tip to soak up excess juice in the base where the coil screws in.
Make sure you have no liquid in the upper tank airtube including the drip tip.
Shake out and dry excess liquid on your coil.
Screw coil into base firmly, screw base onto the tank.
Take a puff.

The method I initially mentioned is with the tank on and so you didn't have to take your atomizer apart.

and now to answer your questions...

1). Do this blowing technique with the tank on my unit or before screwing it on? Does it matter?
A. On your atomizer, there are no airholes on the 510 connection or underneath the base so it doesn't matter.

2). Blow the excess liquid out from the drip tip or the air hole itself?
A. From your drip tip, have tissue to soak up any excess juice flowing out of the airhole

3). What exactly is flooding, what causes it, and what can be done to prevent it? Have heard about it but still baffles me.
A. In the simplest of terms, it is when there is too much juice inside the coil area. The vacuum inside your tank is pressurize and this pressure pulls the juice onto the coil area. How you puff and the airflow setting can affect the amount of juice flowing to your coils. Using the smaller airhole setting creates a stronger vacuum, drawing more liquid onto your coils than the larger airhole setting.

4). Does flooding occur more commonly with newer coils? Was having this issue before replacing. Thankfully, it has gotten better since I made this post but still want to try this troubleshooting.
A. It happens all the time. For example, if you leave your atomizer in your car on a warm day, the heat may expand the air in your atomizer tank and push juice onto the coils. Changes in altitude can cause it to flood. How you fill the tank and/or how you change your coils can affect it too.

Since you are new to all this, I suggest you take a look at a few YT videos to help you along.

Good luck and congratulations on quitting cigarettes!

Wow, Mr. Fabe! Thank you for all the info and resources! This is soooo helpful- especially your step-by-step instructions!

Y'know it's funny. I'm a bona-fide research junkie and have read, and researched, a bunch of stuff. This, however, I haven't really looked into since had no clue what it was. Until now- when it's happened to me. Soo back to the drawing board with more research! You've provided a wealth of info here so thank you for all your time doing so. Truly appreciated.

Yeah, well done Mr. Fabe. I've been thinking for awhile now...someone really needs to put together a Nautilus QA thread for reference. Most of the questions on here are the same ones that have been answered, but it's tough for new people to search through everything.

Something I've been meaning to do, but I've finally stopped using my Nautilus. And I figure by the time I do...the Naut 2 will be summoned as soon as I do :)

Thank you for your kind words. I remember when I first started but the answers I received were full of misinformation, wasted time and money. Giving back and sharing is what its all about... Enjoy safe vaping!

Your welcome. The information is out there. I'm glad you weren't afraid to ask. People are here to help.

Just wait until you graduate into rebuildables.. drippers and tanks!
