I wrap the nautilus coils all the time like this, i can see that in the first picture of it wrapped in cotton the top wire isnt insulated from the coil and thay can short like that. I if you start the cotton wrap by sliding it between that wire and the coil, then wrap it will stop them possibly shorting.

GREAT suggestion...When I packed it I made sure, after I put the pin in, that the leads were not near a side wall. No shorts. The coil is floating directly in the middle of the head. I didn't do "the tuck" since I used so much wick on the coil overall.

Also, when I installed it, wick came well over that top wrap so zero wire is exposed.

Kanthal doesn't actually short out on itself because of surface oxidation (AFAIK) or all microcoils would be dead shorts.

If you keep it off the walls it's all good.

Nice job on that Atlantis re-coil.

I don't know why, but I had always assumed that a short would be more likely if the distance were greater. Like, there's less resistance along the path of 1/4" length of wire than across oxidized surfaces (in a contact coil); but when you're looking at ~2" of resistance wire, maybe a little shortcut looks more appealing. I never experimented with it for lack of necessity; but good to know. I imagine there's some point (some length) at which the current would jump across instead of hiking the long way.

Nice job buddy! NR-R-NR used?
Regular A1...I ordered Nichrome. For this one I used 28g and it ohmed out fairly high so I loaded it up with Grants VC. It started out gurgly but now smooth sailing. I have 30 if I want to drop the ohms.

But without NR legs won't it get hot near the rubber grommets? Besides wastage of heat ~ aka higher resistance - more out of the main coiled area. I always used NR-R-NR config in my Evod rebuilding days.

Huge thread in general vaping about some material in the Atlantis head is an unknown material, perhaps a ceramic, and is completely breaking down and possibly being vaped into your lungs. Here is a pic. The squares with the holes in them are the unknown material and you can see in the pic of the screen, this material is breaking off, degrading and going "somewhere." For now, I am only using rebuilt heads. Check the thread out. Aspire has written a statement about the heads. There have been no answers, however.
