atomizer mod idea

Any time my atomizer starts tasting burnt or I'm just not getting much vapor, I inevitably find that the wick has fused itself to the coil. I'm wondering if that could be prevented from happening by placing a piece of ss mesh inside, in between the coil and the wick—allowing liquid to flow through without the wick touching the coil. Do you think this might work?

If I was going to try it, I'd need to figure out what kind of mesh to use. Any suggestions? I have some mesh (325 mesh, I think), but looks like too tight of a weave to allow liquid to flow through easily (and obviously liquid would need to be able to flow through it easily).

Has anyone else tried doing anything like this?

Sounds plausible. Like a disk of mesh pushed onto the coil before the cap and wick are re-assembled ?

I've only opened one atomizer so far, the coil was gunked up a bit, but the wick was not fused (yet). An alcohol soak has been working for me, but this is with a limited array of light, high PG juices. The burnt effect is when I get careless and run the tank dry ...

Give it a try, if it works, I'll certainly do the same. I have some small diameter gasket cutters that would make a disc of mesh the same size as the inside diameter of the atomizer shell ...

A leather punch might work as well, one of those multi-sized punches used for making holes in leather belts, if it has a size large enough ...

Prolonging the life of a $4 atty is worth a little effort ... :D

I would like to know too. That's the only reason mine fail so far. I've thought of it from the opposite direction but haven't tried it as I'm tiny-tinkering-challenged. I thought of wrapping the SS fatter around the wick that goes in the spike part helping to hold it up in it tighter as even clipping the bottom off well above the coil, it still tends to drop down with use and that's even with the new unrebuilt ones.

... on my dripper setup.

You just reminded me, I gotta try dripping with the eRoll again, enough time has passed ...

The first time, I unfortunately used a new bacon flavored juice that was delivered that day. It was a disaster, the stench drove me out of the house after I opened every window and door, and set up every fan I could find. This was in December ...

That battery and atomizer went in a HazMat bag and into the Dumpster, a total loss ...

Next time, I'll try it with one of my favorite juices, then work through some freebies that came with recent orders ...

The concept is great, dripping with the eRoll (just not with bacon ... :() ...

Ha! You should stick with the Arctic Would Rico! :) I just re-wicked my Terminator with cotton and threw Arctic Wolf in there. Not as warm as the eRoll, but definitely a stronger flavor.

Did dripping on the eRoll work as well as I thought it would? I haven't bothered to try it since I have my Echo dedicated for that purpose.

The wick would gunk up on the mesh first instead of the coil; but the bigger difference it would make is more hot metal contact with eliquid giving you a foggier and smoother vape.

I think the vertical coil mod with outside filler and airflow down the center of the coil wont have a problem with wickgunk fusing to the coil, or at least easier to remove from the outside, than removing a wick that's on the inside.

I went ahead and gave this a try using the ss mesh I had on hand. There were two problems:

1) Muted flavor
I experienced a flavor problem when I tried to make a ss wick before too — a little metallic on the first few puffs, then just kind of a bland taste. I don't know if that was because of the mesh being in there or maybe the liquid wasn't flowing through well enough from the wick. I didn't get a burnt hit, though, so I assume the liquid got through okay. I didn't vape it long enough to determine if the flavor problem was just temporary because…

2) Decreased airflow
It wasn't impossible to vape or anything, but I definitely had to put more effort into it that I'd like. This problem could probably be avoided by making the mesh into a skinny strip that only covered the length of the coil, rather than a full disk shape like I did it. So that's what I'll do on my next try.

Yes, exactly that.

$4 doesn't sound like much, but if you go through atties like I do, it sure adds up! I have two eRolls in use all the time and I'm lucky if I can go a week without having to clean or replace the atomizer in both of them. Usually I get about 3-4 days of use, then have to open them up and clean then so I can get 2-3 more days out of them before having to replace them (a second cleaning almost never works for me).

As long as the eGo-c has been around, it seems to me that someone would have tried this already. Still, it couldn't hurt.

I don't get the fused coil effect, but I toss my atties every couple of months on my dripper setup.

In my wildest dreams, I could never get a couple months from an atty. Or even a month. Or even a few weeks. It probably has to do with the liquid I use: Johnson Creek vanilla. Before the eRoll, when I used a Joye 510 exclusively, I went through a lot of atties. So the brand and flavor of the liquid and the fact that I vape a lot probably cause me more atomizer troubles than the average vaper.

LOL. I tried a bacon flavor once. It tasted like burnt toast with a hint of beef jerky. eeww.

Can you tell me more about this vertical coil mod? Is there a link to some pictures or discussion about it?

Arctic Wolf and the eRoll were made for each other. I've given small samples to friends with mods, who said it made steam come out of their ears, its a powerful juice. I usually add a touch of SubZero from Halo to take the edge off ...

It did work well for sampling the flavors of new juices, just a drop or two, then on to the next. But when I tried that foul bacon juice, it left me with a mental block against dripping. I think I'm over it now ...

Definitely your juice. I use a clear 80/20, so my atties last forever. I never even had a popped coil or gunked up atomizer. I just decided 2 months was a long enough lifespan for one atomizer.

I don't think that will work in an eGo-C atomizer.

Its definitely your juice. I use 70/30 or 50/50 with a bit of distilled water... all my juices are clear and a light beige color. I get three weeks minimum and then usually clean whether it needs it or not as far as performance goes. I'm still using the attys I bought originally which I think was at the least 6 months ago... probably longer... and I use them in my Joye CCs also but don't exceed 3.7 volts.

I agree with using lighter/thinned juices to extend the life of atomizers. I vape 50/50 and 80/20 PG/VG juices and thin down some of the VG heavy ones with distilled water. My attys last at least two full weeks or,longer. I am a very heavy vaper, too.
