I think the 510's have a 280 mah battery while the KR808 is a 380 mah so it'll last a bit longer (if I'm wrong on those figures someone please correct me). Riva's and eGo's are 650 mah on up to 1300 mah. To fill a cartomizer make sure you buy the soft cap style. With those you just pop off the white silicon cap and drip juice into it until it's saturated, replace the cap and you're ready to go.

Madjack: This was over a year ago. No blood spitting problems since then. I just had too many menthols in one night with too little time in between. Thanks for the consideration though. I have a couple friends who went through the same thing and the doctor basically told them that their throats had been rubbed raw by the harshness of the menthol. Once I started buying regular the problem never reoccurred.

Cskent: Thanks a lot, just one question. With that given e-cig, do I just refil the cartomizers with my own juice, buy prefilled ones, or buy empty cartomizers and fill those with juice I've purchased?
I don't have a preference for any specific way fo going about things, just wondering how that part works.

EDIT: Frosting and JLH, Thanks a bunch guys. Checking all those links out as well. I can't believe how fast I got quality responses here. You guys are great!

...well OK, had me worried there...now some advice and question answering...
auto batts seem nice BUT, they are very delicate and tend to breakdown if anything gets in the air switch opening...they also have a 5+- second cut off time on the draw(they are auto ya know)...a manual on the other hand has a button yo push with at least a 10 to infinity draw period, this allows you to control the length of the vape...you control the batt instead of it controlling you...
...there are two major types of e-cigs worth looking at, the ones with 510 connectors and the ones with KR-808-D-1 connectors...for your smoking habit and what you are asking for, the Kr808(or just 808) would probably suit you...look at smokelessimage.com, bloogplanet.com or vapor4life.com, these are all 808s...these vendors sell both blank and prefilled cartomizers(cartos) in a bunch different flavors and have batts that last for 3r4hrs of continuous vape time and are fairly simple starter units...going up in size and performance from there are the ego/Riva/Kgo...these are all 510 devices know as "fat batt" units...about the size of a sharpie...Liberty Flights has the Riva510 lite bundle for 30bux(a heckuva deal) after clicking the 20%discount button on the top left of their page...the fat batts will last 6r7hrs and the cartos are blanks you fill with the juice of choice...the Kgo(42bux) is available from hoosierecigsupply and has a batt life of 10+hrs of continuous vape time.........

Somewhere out there
Welcome! I am fairly new to the 2 part ecigs, started on the 3 piece ones and hated them a couple years ago. I currently use the KR808D-1 style and cartos, mine is a Halo G6 and I love it for being easy draw, TH (throat hit), and Halo flavors are the best for tobacco. Since I have been using it for about 5 weeks total (2 weeks of weaning off analogs gradually), 3 weeks of no analogs, it has worked well. Easy to use and easy to fill cartos. Nice feel not too heavy. I did buy a bunch of batteries (7 now:) and 2 regular chargers and PCC charger, I never run out of charged batteries now I can charge three at a time. Most of mine are automatic, they do give you the most natural feel of smoking. I did get a manual, it heats up the e liquid right away and the taste of the e liquid is better right away because of that. But since I have to push that button it does not feel as natural to me yet, so takes a bit of getting used to for me. I smoked no more than a pack a day, usually I smoked 3/4 of a pack of ultra lights, so I was not a heavy smoker, just smoked for alot of years! So was a long term smoker. I still get an urge to smoke but I go vape instead. Anyway just my info on what has worked for me as a fairly new e cig user and totally off anaolgs now. Good luck! bnrk

I would recommnd instead for KR808D-1 to also check SmokelessImage - their cartos are nice and it's the latest version of KR8, a bit longer charge for each size, and their manuals are totally sealed on the threaded end. I recommend manuals for ease in getting good hits, less work, sealed against being damaged or killed by juice leaks.

We do refill those cartos, actually keep them damp so the stuffing won't singe. You should be able to get 4-7 days use out of a carto. I recommend PG juices with 20% or less VG (try 20% when starting out) and you'll find clearer juices help cartos last longer. Add juice whenever vapor seems a bit light or dry, if the flavor is off, if the carto is getting abnormally warm. You can also look at the top of the stuffing - if it looks especially light color then you could add some juice. If you singe one it will add a bitter taste (not too bad with tobacco flavors but would ruin a sweet flavor)

Oh wow, that looks simple enough to fill. Haha, no idea why, but somehow I had myself thinking it was much more complicated.

Checking out those links now guys, These all sound like exactly what I was looking for. Might go with that Joye 510 kit because it seems like it's a pretty good deal (especially after that 20%, like Frosting said).

One last question. When you guys say X hours of battery, does that mean X hours of use, or just X hours unattached from the charger?

x hours of use.

You get about 1 hour per 100 mah of continous vaping. You're probably not going to vape continously non-stop so a 280 mah battery will last you 3-4 hours if you vape, put it down, take a few more vapes, etc. That's for a brand new battery. Obviously the older it gets, the less time. You can extend the life of the battery by putting it on the charger before it's completely dead.

vitojohn, that part about "I don't know what all that stuff is, I don't know how to use it", that's true of pretty much everyone. Vaping works very well, and I'm convinced that anyone who will spend a little time learning about it, and a little money to get decent equipment and find at least one or two juice flavors they like, can at the very least cut down their smoking a massive amount. And I think that most can quit.

I was a 3 pack a day smoker, and I smoked for over 30 years. I didn't think I would ever quit. I didn't think I could. But now I'm convinced. Over the past couple of months, I cut way back. And over the past few days, I haven't smoked a single cig. If it can work for me, it can work for anyone.

But all of that assumes that they spend some time to learn. There is a learning curve. It's not quite as easy as "buy a pack of cigs, open them up, light one".

Finding the right juice is probably the hardest part for many. You need at least one flavor you like. You need the right PG/VG mix (and for different people, that can change.) You need the right nic level - and that certainly varies between people. And to find the right juice for you, you'll need to try a bunch of stuff out. At first, always buy in very small quantities. 3ml to 5ml, 10ml at the most, of any given flavor. Only after you find something you know you like should you get a bigger bottle. This will save you money.

Figuring out what the hardware does and how to refill a cartomizer or tank, how to drip, all of that stuff, it's never really going to sink in until you just do it. And once you get the equipment and start doing it, you'll pick that part up very fast. It sounds complicated, but when you have the stuff in front of you, it gets a lot easier.

And, luckily for you, you've found the ECF forums. You have a ton of people here who want to help. Almost everyone here is an ex-smoker, or is working their way towards it. It's very unlikely you are going to have any problem that a bunch of others haven't already had. Any problem you have, any question you have, all you have to do is post, and it won't take long at all before you have advice on how to fix that problem.

You've found your very own "How to quit smoking the easy way" support group.

Good luck. :)

Oh, I forgot one thing. You live in California. I recommend you go here....

Location Specific

And then look in the sub-forums. There is probably a California section. (Maybe more than one - Texas has 3 subforums there.) Use that as a resource, and see if you can find a local vape shop.

I had the same "What is all this stuff and how do I use it, and how big is it because pictures make it hard to envision the size, and...." kind of thing when I started. Before I ordered, I found out that there is a local store, a vape shop, only a few miles from me. I bought my first kit there, and that made it much easier since I could see what I was getting, and ask questions with a real person standing there.

You may not be as lucky, but it can't hurt to take a look.

+100 for Smokeless Image. It's a great starter kit, and in addition to the sealed manual batteries they now have sealed auto batteries (not totally sealed, but far more protected than regular autos). I've been using the sealed autos for a week now. I find a slight difference in the draw but nothing bad, just different, and worth it for the extra protection.

Look over in their thread - they have developed quite the good reputation and a following to match. Plus, they are running a 20% off discount until midnight today with coupon code "volt1492".

I really wish I had found SI when I was first getting started. It would have easily saved the first $300-$400 I spent early on trying to find a really solid system.

Lately I admit to tending to favor a more advance PV with a tank system, but when out of the house or at work I always have a couple of SI Volt (or older Bloog MF) batteries and a few of their cartomizers in my pocket so I don't get caught wanting.
