I agree on certain points from both mrexe and spikey. The only thing I would change about spikey's video is the info about charging. The rest of her video is top notch. Now with that said. The type of batteries we are working with should only be charged till the light turns green. HOWEVER you must take into account the protection incorporated into the charger and the battery. When the battery charger reaches voltage it shuts down charge to the battery and the battery itself (protection circuit board) stops the charge from entering the battery also. That's two protection circuits that would have to fail in the event of overcharge ( more than 3 hours or so).

I'm not sure there is even statistics compiled on the reported events of a catastrophic failure when 2 safety protections are used. I doubt it has happened very much. Probably the same amount of time a failure has occured while charging till the green light turns on.

Bottom line it's not recommended to leave the battery on after the light turns green. Chances of failure even after that is still slim to none. Take into account how many forum members still initially charge for 12 hours. How many have you heard blowing batteries up? The main recommendation of being sure not to overcharge came about before the li-ions started incorporating safety features. So now it doesn't matter too much. Just that a battery charged for 12 hours will not have any more charge than a battery charged til the light goes green (the charger and batt make sure of this).

I try to speak from experience. In this instant it's from info obtained from building li-ion chargers and the data sheets that they come with.

I think this all could have been avoided if it was presented as a post with a few simple tips to remember when you are starting out, instead of trying to tear down Spikeys video.

Even if you don't like all the advice given, this is not a way to say Hi to the group. For the most part, everyone here is very nice and goes out of their way to make sure people looking for answers get them.

I realize the OP had intended on trying to just make a simple set of guidelines for noobs, but after a week, should not be trying to discredit someone so established and dedicated to the cause.

OP, I have not been here long myself, but I have been here long enough to see what Spikey does for the community, on the board and out in the world. I am pretty sure you are feeling attacked right now, because of the growing intensity of your replies. I hope you realize, after you have taken some time to look around a bit, how much respect Spikey deserves.

thanks stevo, thot I was gonna start halucinating there for a bit...........yes, her vid is quit thorough. but can be "intimidating" for someone that is scared to give up their tobbacco god..........but, she was just an example that I have run across, made the fatal mistake of refering to it by name...........live and learn

it wasn't that you named her it was you blasted her and she has done a ton for the community as well as took her time out to do the video..and that i believe was the third one. she actually does change the videos (that i have seen) and updates them if someone either pm's her or suggests something to her.

you will actually find most people are willing to help and accept criticism but you have to be tactful in your approach.

now i need about an hour worth of 36mg..............whoa..........like I said, I was tactful, until called a name, and attacked for no good reason, other than egos.......didnt mean to start a fight, just have noticed several posts of people that are 'overwhelmed" with all the info, and thot I should try to simplify and set the battery thing straight.
