I will always stand up for smokers rights. I don't mind being around them and if a smoker comes to my house they are allowed to smoke in my old "smoking room". one thing I have found out since quitting is that "stinkies" doesn't just apply to cigs. come to find out the world in general stinks. lots of stinky smells out there. sometimes I wish I still couldn't smell anything!

I've always kept this quote in the back of my mind (although the quote and its' source is sometimes in question, the idea is still valid):

First they came for the communists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a communist.

Then they came for the trade unionists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Jews,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a Jew.

Then they came for me
and there was no one left to speak out for me.

I have also noticed comments that make it seem like smokers aren't all that welcome here.... Maybe that is putting it a little too strongly.... Does it make me "bad" if I choose to have an analog once in a while? Should I have to hide it if I want to be accepted in the vaping community?

actually I still smoke 2 cigs a day, right before bed. I never wanted to quit smoking, I liked it. I wanted to cut back because of the money so I started vaping and within a month I was down to 2 cigs a day from 2 1/2+ packs a day. I was pleased and surprised at that development. there are times when busy or out of town that I forget to smoke my 2 cigs a day. I am still very proud of myself :) (so my "old" smoking room mentioned above is not really "old" lol)

You're clearly blocking them out, because they're everywhere. "Stinkies" and whatnot. The constant slamming, condescending remarks about smoking are everywhere in sight on ECF.
Cigarette smoke smells like crap.

What? Are we supposed to say it smells like strawberries or something?
Saying it smells like crap is not being negative or condescending, it is just being honest.

So yeah, if that is what the OP meant, I still don't get it.
Honesty is not negative or condescending, it is just honesty.

Cigarette smoke smells like socks. Latakia pipe tobacco smells like crap.

Whether or not that bit of honesty is "just being honest" depends on how far you take it. If you become an anti always harping on smokers you are an anti. If you simply think it stinks and deal with the smell you are a normal person who has learned to deal with things you don't always like.

When I switched to pipes I could smell cigarettes a lot faster than I am smelling them vaping. I didn't go around harping on my cigarette smoking friends about what their habit smelled like or ban them from smoking around me, just like they didn't say anything about my latakia. There's a fuzzy line between being honest and being rude.

And that's exactly the point I am trying to make.
I don't ever see anyone on this forum doing the former, only the latter.

I see your point but I haven't changed how I do things, when I smoked my house was still a no smoking zone so quiting didn't change that.
I welcomed the fact that there was a safer way for me to get my nic fix but not everyone does or they are not ready to change yet, when they are I will be more than happy to tell them, till then I don't judge.

I'm with Trilly on this one. I don't allow smoking in my house, and I didn't even when I smoked. I always went outside and even at other folks houses who did smoke inside I smoked outside. Even as a smoker I hated smoking indoors and being trapped with smoke indoors. I thought it stank then (except during my stent as a pipe smoker, and I still think that smells good) and I think it stinks now. Aside from the stink, there is also the health factor of second hand smoke. I never exposed people to mine, unless the intentionally walked down wind of me, and all i want is the same consideration. I don't hate on smokers. I remember just how hard it was to give up, until I found PVs. However, I do hate the smoke from cigarettes and cigars. And no matter what the source, I do hate being trapped in a room with it. Thats just my personal feeling toward the situation.

Cigarette smoke bothers me quite a bit now, but I just try to avoid it. I do have friends that smoke and I don't harp on them to quit. Rather I express how much I prefer vaping. The only person I nagged about smoking was my son. He used to harp on me day and night to quit smoking, which I did with vaping. He told all his smoking friends about vaping and how great it was. THEN he picks up smoking.... yeah I gave him a lot of crap for that, but eventually got him vaping too.

No, you shouldn't say it smells like strawberries. That was the point I was making in my OP.

I guess my point is that even though we no longer smoke and may not enjoy the smell of it, we should still be tolerant of other peoples freedoms. Being tolerant of something doesn't mean you have to like something, it just means tolerating it.

I understand complaining about it within the vaping community. If is something that bothers you, then you should be able to talk about it freely and openly in this community. What I was referring to is how we react to smokers in the real world and in to the general public. In a perfect world you are free to do whatever you want until in imposes on the rights of another person. Well, this is not a perfect world and for everyone to keep their rights, there is going to small overlaps of freedoms and rights.

I do read a lot about the legal actions being taking against us vapers and it makes be a little upset.

All I was suggesting is tolerance. You can still think it is smelly, disgusting, rude, and hate every single smoker in the world and still be tolerant of it. At the same time, you don't have to be tolerant of it either. I was just making a suggestion.

I also think I should add a little better description of tolerance. Tolerance is NOT just putting up with something and dealing with it. Tolerance is more of a compromise or dealing with something to an extent. For example, Non-smokers didn't like smelling the smoke lingering into their non-smoking section of the restaurant so the smokers went outside. Tolerance here is that the non-smoker may have to smell some smoke as they are walking into the restaurant but dine in a completely smoke-free environment.

Walking through a bit of smoke doesn't really bother me, though I usually wind up asking Iron Monkey if I really smelled like that before, apologizing for it and expressing my gratitude for discovering vaping - out of earshot of the smokers :) It really doesn't smell good, but they are perfectly within their rights to smoke.

My best friend is a chain smoker, and a large number of my close friends still smoke. They've all tried my PVs, some of them are considering switching, and they all know I'll help them with the learning curve and picking out the right system for them if they choose to start vaping, but I don't judge, preach or criticize them about smoking. They're adults who can make their own decisions, and I understand just how tough it can be to put down the stinkies. If it was easy, I wouldn't have smoked for 17+ years!

I still go outside with them when they go smoke, I just puff my PV, and if they ask, I'll pass it around or pull another battery out for whoever wants to vape instead of smoke. And we all call cigarettes stinkies and cancer sticks...

I didn't quit. I switched.

I loved smoking and I always said that I would only quit if a new habit could be found to take its place and be just as satisfying. Vaping is very satisfying. Having said that, if I smoke anything less than 18mg juice for a couple of days, I start thinking of getting some cigarettes. This winter for the first time I won't have to go out in the cold and wet for my nicotine fix.

My heart goes out to smokers. They are targetted here in such a repressive way. Our PM says that the Health Department's wish to increase the price of cigarettes to $100 a packet is too severe. When the current price of a packet is nearly $20 and already too expensive, one wonders what lengths they will go to in other areas such as alcohol and fatty/sugary food. The Health Department wants this country smoke free by 2025 and seems to be willing to go to any lengths.

It appears that as soon as personal freedoms impact the Government coffers, the freedoms are the first to go. I do not believe that is right at all.

What are your opinions, feelings, and overall attitude towards smokers? If you hate them, then say so. You have every right to hate them, whether it be right or wrong.

I read a lot of negative comments about smoking... but not too much about smokers. Mostly... I feel sympathetic. My GF still smokes (and is set up with vaping stuff too). So.....

Stinkies, leaf-burners, analogs, are derogatory terms I guess. But it's really about smoking, not smokers. I think most of us are more understanding than average.

Every once in a while the smell of people smoking starts to annoy me. But I always catch myself and think "you used to smoke so cool it.".

So people call cigarettes stinkies. So what? They do stink. They stunk before I quit smoking.

I personally don't see negativity directed at smokers. In fact most posters seem to adhere to a policy of "hate the cigarettes, not the smokers." Which to me, is fine. It seems to me that there are at least ten new posters, ten new SMOKERS joining this board every day. And they're welcomed and encouraged.

I seem to see a lot of negative comments about smokers on this forum. Most of us used to be smokers and if you were like me you probably despised people that would make little snide comments and gestures to us when we are smoking. When I was a smoker I always told myself that if I ever quit smoking I would never become one of those people. Even after I quit I would still let people smoke in my house because I always hated visting that friend who tries to quit smoking for a week and won't let you smoke in their house anymore and makes you go outside. I guess my point is that even though we no longer smoke and may not enjoy the smell of it, we should still be tolerant of other peoples freedoms. Being tolerant of something doesn't mean you have to like something, it just means tolerating it. I am not saying that you should let people smoke in your house but if you are going into a restaurant and have to walk through a big cloud of smoke to get in the front door, be a little tolerant. Just because we no longer smoke does not mean that we are better than those that do.

What are your opinions, feelings, and overall attitude towards smokers? If you hate them, then say so. You have every right to hate them, whether it be right or wrong.

maybe I have not been off analogs long enough, it's only been six weeks..... but I still love the smell of smoke. I smell someone that just came in from smoking and I want to lick their mouth. I don't think I will ever not love that smell and the taste
