atty worked on the riva but not the grand?

I had a 510 atty on my riva that was working perfectly. I figured I would experiment a little and try it out on my new Reo Grand. So, I took the bauway 306 off and twisted the riva 510 on. Well, it barely worked. It barely produced ANY VAPOR AT ALL. I popped the 306 back in the Reo and it worked great. I put the 510 back on the riva and it worked great. Any thoughts? I don't get it...
